Someone on my other thread rec'd I dl the Omega drivers and gave me the link to the site to do so. Im in the process right now , but Im not sure if I m going about it the right way. Do you have to pay to dl the drivers? I ran some kind of scan that was on the site and it has told me how many drivers applications and other things I have out of date. Then it offered to update them for 30 bucks. Anyone know if Im going about this the right way?

If you find all of the correct drivers yourself, you can get it for free.
    Omega Driver
    Download the Omega Driver here
Click on the top link (in the radeon section [dark red]) to download the latest version.
    Take care!

Sometimes a 200 boost in 3DMark05 -- which is 99% worth it, considering that it is free :)

Admittedly, I haven't taken the time to search for solutions at the Omege site, but while they did boost my 3DMark05 scores, they also caused problems with DVD playback. I have the 7525, and upgrading the stock ATI drivers to the newest version on their site took me from 1546 (out of box, no tweaking) to 1693 (no overclocking) with no dvd problems. Omega bumped me to 1725, but with dvd problems. BTW, I did also upgrade the AMD drivers and everything else the gateway support page led me to upgrade.

Overall, I am VERY happy with the 7525. It does get HOT (not warm IMHO, uscooper) sitting on your lap, but a chill mat took care of this for $10 after rebate at compusa.

Once I have dled the drivers do I need to do something else? What did you have to do to fix the dvd problems the drivers caused for you?

    Hey Hellmans,
I went to dl the first of the two "essential" drivers you posted the link to. When I tried to run the file once it was dle it said that it was not supported by the Athlon 64 driver. Any ideas?

I am not sure yet. I will look at it in a bit.
I did notice that the AMD site changed the day after I downloaded the driver (coincidence, eh?).. Maybe I posted the wrong driver... I will get on it.

I recall Uscooper stating that the 4000+ comes with the driver already, which wouldn't surprise me.. It is a relatively new processor. The only difference that it made for me was the speed control, which the 4000+ should already have.. You will probably not need it. You can always download the updated driver through the hardware manager too. Try that.

    Sorry 'bout the inconvenience.

I edited the post. It was the wrong driver. Plus, the 4000+ processors come with them.. As mentioned above, just update through the hardware manager when you feel it is the right time :)

all mobile processors should come with a cpu driver installed. Thats the Powernow/Speedstep that everyone new to notebooks is so confused about. Theres no way its not installed factory. You just have to make sure your power scheme supports it.

Of course it has it installed, it is just that I could not get it to update. I waited a long time before deciding to try fetching it myself. Mine (before updating) had never underclocked (yep, constant 2.4GHz even on battery). My reason for posting the driver, was so people who had trouble getting the wizard to find the driver, could get it here.

About 'PowerNow!' I really don't see how people can get so confused over it.. I relate it to GM's DOD (displacement on demand). Powerful when needed, efficient when power is not needed.
I'm not the only one who relates everything to cars, am I?

Just installed catalyst 6.2 and my 3dMark05 score is now 1744 with no overclocking. That's up from 1546 out of the box. A noticeable difference!

I continue to be very happy with the MX7525, and at $1,199 at BB it was a steal. If you're considering this model and want to buy retail without breaking the bank, I can't steer you away as long as you're looking for a desktop replacement, not a road warrior.
