I'm eagerly awaiting Far Cry 2 as I'm sure many of you are. I was wondering how the 7811 would cope with it.

according to the game requirements, a desktop 8600 gts GPU is recommended. How does this compare with the 9800m gts?

    Does this sound correct?

"Compared to desktop graphics cards, the 9800M GTS should be a bit slower than the GeForce 8800 GS (which has a higher memory clock rate)." - notebookcheck.net

I can't seem to find any direct comparisons with desktop GPU's
If this is accurate, it should run pretty smoothly.

our 98 is beter than a 86 no if and or buts. So yes it falls on the +recomended section. you will be able to play the game.

I play mass effect and crysis with stings at very high so dont worry they are not making somehting ppl wont be able to play. right now you got a 9800 afaik its liek a 9600 desktop (or so say the voices in the forums) at any rate it kicks some major ***, so dont worry :). I bet you my left pinkie you will rock it at medium-high 1900X1200 no problem whatsoever (video card problems i mean). Ultra High well that id ont think so not at 1900X1200 any how. :)

From what I've read on the web, 9800M GTS = Desktop 8800 GS.

Gotta love the NVIDIA naming scheme

Let's put it this way, I was able to beat Crysis Warhead on this laptop with Gamer settings at 1280x800. To me, that's pretty **** impressive.

Actually, I just noticed something that may prove to be exciting news. Crysis recommended video card was 8800 gts 640. Far Cry 2's recommended is 8600, meaning it may actually run smoother and be more optimized than Crysis. Imagine if we can run Far Cry 2 fully maxed : )

To be honest, If FarCry 2 looks no better than the original FarCry, I'd be perfectly happy.

But I've got some catching up to do... Will Half-Life2 and FEAR run on the 7811 with Vista 64? Vista 32? Or do I have to upgrade to XP?

I know from experience HL2 works. And I see no reason FEAR would not work...I have gotten stuff as old as Fallout 1 and 2 going on here with no issue.

FEAR will run under Vista as well. Although, last time I tried playing FEAR, NVIDIA drivers kept killing me FPS out of nowhere... or perhaps that was the card itself, although, I could never replicate the issue in other games (FEAR would run at 60 FPS (GeForce 7900GS) and then after 30 minutes are so, would drop down to 15 FPS).

If you play fear in vista 64 turn on compatibility mode to Xp sp2 and you will see a huge difference and to check it just benchmark it before and after you change it with the built in benchmark.
