Here's another one to add to the AUO list.

    Batch #: I001920

Still haven't been able to find another one with an LG panel.
It's starting to look like they only used the LG panels on the initial batches and from here on out the AUO will be the standard panel.

They are probably the ones that then are trying to sell them on www.ebay.com for a huge profit. There is over a dozen P-7805u listed on eBay.

Hey, tough economic times call for tough measures! Make a few bucks on ebay, one less foreclosed house. I'd do the same thing.

No, just want to exchange the one I have, mainly because of the ringing/hissing coming from the right fan. It also has a dead pixel, but that's not such a big deal.
The noise is very annoying, specially when you're in a quiet room trying to get some work done.

So far I've tried exchanging twice and I keep finding the AUO panels, so I still haven't exchanged. I don't like the look of the AUO panels. I had a chance to compare the LG and AUO panels side-by-side and there's definitely a difference.
On top of that, the last one I tried had a defective latch and it was more difficult to open.

I've asked before whether others have noticed the hissing/ringing but no one has ever replied. I guess mine is the only one. :(

For what it's worth, I took back two different LG panels, as they both had some very noticeable arge areas of darker blacks (almost forming two vertical bands in one case), and on both machines there was a large blotch of uneven blacks about the size of a 50-cent piece located about 1/4 of the way from the top of the screen, and in the middle (from left to right).

Both were from the same batch ( H366487), so I am left wondering if this was a problem only with this batch, or if anyone else has noticed it?

I looked at the display model (which happened to be an AUO), and I did not see it on that particular panel (although the glare from the obnoxiously bright lights inside BB might have prevented me from seeing it), so at this point, I am seriously considering giving up and just taking whatever they have in stock (which seems to be only AUOs)...

Am I the only one seeing these uneven blacks? I showed it to several people (including BB's tech) who all said they saw what I was talking about.

Then there's also the speculation surrounding the wording on the price on BB.com - the 7805u is now labelled at "Our Price: 1049.99" instead of showing a list price, and the 1049.99 being their 'sale price'...

So now I am torn as to whether to settle for an AUO (which at this point would be better than a blotchy LG - which has been the case with both LG's I've had thus far - admittedly from the same batch, but still...) or to keep looking.

Should I keep looking for an LG or just settle for whatever is in stock... and does anyone else think the 7805u will be a regular item for 1049.99?

And has anyone noticed these uneven blacks? Set your BG to solid back and you might see what I'm talking about on your machine...

    Got one today...

    Batch Number H365871 Manufactured 11/17/2008

But after starting it up, I am at a native 1920X1200

It says in the hardware ID that I have the AUO1088 tho. looks ok by me.

Is this similar to the experience everyone is having?

I purchased two at Best Buy with the 18 month no interest deal. i bought two in case one is defective and they go out of stock. I don't like dead or stuck pixels. and maybe my chances will go up getting an LG panel. I will return the extra one or eBay it for $1100 shipped. i paid no taxes in NH :D I will report my numbers in a few days... still have to pick them up. but they are paid for.

You are talking about the I007759 being close to the Ioo7532,not the 6515 correct?

Inoticed batch # I006597 is confirmed LG 1900x1200 which is above my I006515 so that makes me belive but not certain this may indeed be a 1900x1200 at least on this batch, the other 7532 could very well be a 1440x900

Please update with any additional info,thanks....

yeah sorry I edited while you were posting cuz I'm a tard, I'd be a little concerned about that 7532 batch until we see more results, but the 6515 is probably safe. You may be able to pop them open without breaking the seal and put them back, you just need a livecd or something to avoid setting up vista. Another option might be to take it back to best buy and get the basic geeksquad optimization for 39.99 or whatever, if you talk to them nice they might be able to open it and do that and then if you find it has the bad screen you can just opt to return it and be out the 40 bucks or so for geeksquad worst case.

    Yes it was.

Why? Did someone else report a different resolution from that batch #?
Was yours the AUO as well?

What's this I read about the 1440X900 screens?
Are these starting to trickle down into the latest batches?

Wow I am shocked they would really change the resolution with all the 1900x1200 already out there.

I ordered mine from bb.com on the 6th and received it yesterday.
    My batch # is I007603
    It's LG 1900x1200

Either someone sent the wrong parts down the line on the first days of production, or they decided to just off the leftover displays from the 7811FX or they had to meet a deadline for best buy and decided to just throw in a better panel rather than take a beating on penalties for late delivery (im sure there are penalties, most big companies like best buy get their stuff when they want it or else)

lol! I still have a hard time realizing that BB is now a "big" company. I started working for them when they opened their first store (#16) outside of Minnesota (they started in Mineapolis/St. Paul). You could still get Dick Schultz on the phone if needed (President/CEO). Everyone was on commission and you had to know your stuff. Didn't even sell computers then (the age of the Commodore 64)!

I have opened the box, setup Vista, and...

    Display: LGD3901
    Resolution: 1920 x 1200
    Batch: I001920

Same resolution, but, different LCD manufacturer. I believe that is the first time we have identified different manufacturers with the same batch number?

Oh the best part of the story is that no one seemed to even know that they had those computers in stock, i had to talk to the manager and he opened up a locker filled with all kinds of notebooks. he dug around and sure enough at the very bottom in the corner of the locker sat the undisovered laptops. He Opened up a box imediately to set it up as a display and he let me check the settings. i verified that it was the LG panel and bought all the laptops they had.

Ohh ! and i even got a dicount on the Sales display which was brand new!!! lol What a deal

    Open box item. BestBuy policy.

By the way, I'm sure someone's going to call you a dick on here for buying all of them as they are fairly rare to find (especially it seems the WUXGA models as all the newest batches seem to be WXGA+).

I have to be curious what you consider your $140 upgrade to be though, so what is it?

Lastly, the edit button is your friend.

Yeah, I buy and sell computers for by business. I considered getting a few, but to be honest, while these are a good deal, they're not a great deal. The frenzy of action here is because of the low price ($1049). By the time you add a drive or whatever and add markup for profit, and either have to absorb shipping on ebay (If sold with Free Shipping) or worse, add shipping charges the buyer has to pay, suddenly, the p7805 isn't that great a deal.

In the end, if he can make $100 on each one, I think he'll be lucky. I really don't see the p7805's flying off ebay.

Not to mention, he better sell them fast...my guess is competition may step in and other brands will compete with similar or better hardware at that price point.

But, good luck to him! (sincerely...)

I purchased a 2nd 7805u today due to the fact that it had the lower batch numbers and was sure to be a 1920x1200 WUXGA display. They let me open it in the store to verify and it is in fact a WUXGA dispaly, AUO1088

    Batch # H356615
    AUO1088
    WUXGA 1920x1200

This one will be for sale if anyone is interested.

Well, based on the batch numbers, it appears that the only WXGA 1440x900 screens to show up were in the higher batches (IXXXXXX and up) so I'm almost positive that you have a 1920x1200 display.

    1440x900, batch # I009030

My father went to pick it up while I was in school, so I couldn't go with him to make sure I got the better screen. I'm pretty bummed out about it...i mean, is it really that much of a difference?

I haven't seen a 1440x900 display yet, but that's still pretty good resolution for a laptop. My 6864FX only has a 1280x800 15.4" display and I'm happy with that.

I mean, I would return it but I don't want to push it. This is my xmas gift and I already returned the Qosmio because...well, it couldn't run any of my stuff. It looked great and had good sound, but It was heavy and thick and Im hooking this thing up to a suround sound system when it's on my desk anyway.

Everyone here was making it seem like the 1920x1200 completely owned the 1440x900, so I was really hopeing that I'd get the 1920x1200 :/

Yikes!! $2400??? What is the big attraction of the Q9100 over the Q9000? It's a meager 226Mhz difference, which no one will be able to really discern the difference, and it has like a $600 price increase over the Q9000.

    For that money, I'll take a QX9300!

A really nice HP HDX18t with a 1080p display and a Q9000 with 4GB RAM and a 320GB 7200RPM drive can be had for $1500 now using a discount code from HP. Granted, its a 9600M GT instead of a 9800M, but that's a bunch of moo-la for just some extra video power!

Also, I thought the heatpipe in the 7805 would not work with a Quad???

Anyways, good luck and most important, have fun! :)

1920x1200 isn't for everyone anyways honestly, 1440x900 is a better native resolution to play the newest and best games out right now than 1920x1200 for starters. Higher resolutions tax the video card more and while the 9800M GTS is no slouch its essentially a desktop 9600 series card so running the latest and greatest games with all the eye candy can be difficult. 1920x1200 is probably most advantageous for photoshop, autocad, stuff like that where you need the highest possible level of detail and to be able to cram as much onto the screen as possible. If I didn't do autocad I'd probably have prefered to get a laptop with a 1680x1050 resolution screen over this one. A lot of it comes down to personal preference, if you think the 1440x900 looks good to you and your a gamer I would say stick with it, the laptop is still a great deal and you can game more easily at your native resolution where things will look the best anyways.

what you say is true... but from my understanding the 1920X1200 display in general have a better overall looking screen(better colors, etc.). In the Dell Studio 17 the upgrade for the 1920X1200 will cost you $150.... even more than the 1440X900 LED upgrade. even though the 1440X900 may be better for some people... the fact is the 1920X1200 LG version is worth more money. So when Gateway sells them they should simply have a upgrade option if you want the higher resolution screen. and maybe an LED option. what they did was stupid. Perfect example of bait and switch.

Somebody needs to do a side by side. Gateway uses 3 different LCD panels in the same laptop. So I guess we would need to do a side by side by side.

I think that the switch to WXGA was made somewhere around I007000. Everything from the mid-6000's down should be relatively safe in assuming WUXGA.
