What screen is of better quality do you think? (Sharper, more vibrant, brighter) I prefer a lower resolution screen for gaming as well. But if that screen is washed out, cloudy, then the higher res screen would definately have been a better choice for me.

Maybe i late to post , but i think i still lucky, i got 1920 res LGD3901
my bacth number is I112460 on 6/11/09. Mfg date is 090319.
like the Prius post the bacth number on this link http://forum.notebookreview.com/showpost.php?p=4783523&postcount=297
but it didn't say it LG/AUO.
I change my gateway Fx 7805u three times already and this my 4th laptop from Bestbuy. because before i got problem overheating on my GPU, another one it's like refurbish, but my local bestbuy dont have any stock because they discontinue this laptop.
Even any Bestbuy near my City run out stock. But i'm lucky , one guy of geek squad find out there another bestbuy near my city have last one this laptop. I very confuse, because i saw on Bestbuy website they dont carry any this laptop in my state.
But this guy tell me the system on they computer is different from website, and he try to call this Bestbuy Store to make sure they have this laptop like the system said that.
and That's actually right, they still have one and new brand seal. and this guy asking to transfer this laptop to him store.
And i go home and open it. WOW 1920 res LGD3901. I very Happy with that because 3 laptops i got before all have 1440 res
That was my long story -
Anyone care to clarify the difference between the suffix at the end of screen model numbers please:-
eg. LP171WU3(TL)( A2) and LP171WU3(TL)( B3)
is one significantly better than the other? I read in another thread that these suffixes refer to screen brightness but it did not elaborate much more after that; do brighter screens suffer from more bleeding? Any difference between A2/A3 too? -
I'm actually between a 7805u with 1920x1200 resolution and a 7908u (for a bit more). I'm actually willing to get the 7805u because of the screen, I did not notice major improvement the GTX260M got over the 9800M GTS.
EDIT:Some of the screens have bleeding on them, im guessing some people have, some people do not. Its a great buy i tell you. For gateway, 1440x900 is notbad at all. I had both wuxga and wxga. The wuxga is nice but, it stresss the card too much. That ls why gateway put wxga's on the 7805 and 7807 and 7808's to fully maximize the full potential of the 9800M GTS as a desktop replacement. Trusr me, i was one of those people who got crazy over an wuxga and got sad about having wxga, in the end if i ever settled on a 7805, i would get wxga just because it is more reasonable.
1920x1200 is overkill, when i gamed on it, i find myself putting the ress lower just to get more frames and to turn up more eye candy, heck thats why theres 9800M gts for, to beautify my games and get good acceptable
frame rates. But there was a drawback for putting it down, it gets blurry
and look sluggish. But when i gamed on 1440x900, it was a bazaar
experience, everything turned up and looking crisp and sharp no need to lower the res just for that.
My conclusion is, 1440x900 shines on games over 1920x1200, and will totally have legs over 1920x1200 for future games and have very acceptable pleasuring needs for a gamers dream rig.Click to expand... -
I'd recommend getting the 7908u but upgrade the screen yourself; it really isn't that hard. There is a tutorial with pictures about how to upgrade the components on the FX series notebooks, but since my HDD crashed I don't remember where it is. The screen costs about 140 dollars when I bought it.

Screen bleeding is when the edges of the screen have light "bleeding" through. In a perfect LCD monitor, the monitor should be all black when what it is displaying is black. Since nothing is perfect, screen bleeding happens when the LCD backlight has some light leaking through. If it's small, then it shouldn't really matter.

The link actually does include a inverter, but it isn't the correct one for our laptops. I have a p-7801u and I replaced my broken screen with this one with no problems (although if you're used to the AUO screen, you might be disappointed with this LG screen, but that's opinion). -

My current screen has a bright green stuck pixel and I'm one of those people whose eyes can't stop gravitating to a flaw once I know it's there ~_~
What detracted from the LG screen in your experience? -
Neither screen is completely perfect, but I found that the AUO screen had a more rich, accurate colors as well as a more magnificent rich black (perhaps even too black...) than the LG screen. However, keep in mind that this LG screen may not be exactly like the Gateway OEM LG screen.
Also, the LG screen has a tint of yellow in the screen. It's not something you can tell immediately with the naked eye, but when I place my LCD beside my desktop and my HDTV the colors from my TV and desktop look much "whiter" while the laptop looked a bit sickly yellow.
I wouldn't go for the AUO screen though, at least on eBay. The cheapest one I found for this laptop (you have to message the sellers) was for $199. -
B170PW06 V2 (AUO6287) and LPLA103, could you guys compare these to me? Are they identical in terms of quality?
Thanks chillerman625 for the answer on the bleeding screen.
I got the AUO one, it's very good, but I can't say for sure because I don't know much about screens. The problem is that I got a stuck pixel on it and I'm willing to change it, but if the screen is better than the LG one, I'll just try to fix it - well, but I've tried to fix with pixel massage and Dead Pixel Tester with no luck...
Thanks guys!
PS.: got the P7908u model, sorry for a little bit off-topic post, but perhaps the screens of those models are totally the same -

Haha, in my case it's not really annoying because it's on a good place, and as it's stuck and it changes the color depending on the angle, I almost do not notice it, just want to have the laptop 100% hehe.
I was going to change it with a LG screen, but after chillerman625's post I am considering to not change and to definitely fix it... I'm just not sure if the LG one is THAT good in comparison with the AUO one. -
I recently replaced my 7805u's screen with the exact one in chillerman625's post. I originally had the AUO one, but it got water damaged and had water stains. The LG one initially did look washed out compared to the AUO one, but after calibrating it with my i1Display 2 colorimeter I find it to be every bit as vibrant as the AUO one. In fact, I think the colors on the LG panel might be even more accurate than the AOU's.

Calibrating it demands the software to be open all the time or not? I didn't know there was a software that could actually do that...

To know the difference between AUO and LG screens you need to have them side by side. One of them here for sure have done that and confirmed LG is way better than AUO. I have an LG screen and didn't have to deal with dead pixels at all. Getting one without dead pixel is pure luck nowadays.

Thanks for the info. Probably going to get the replacement LG screen then.
