I'm back after a long time of inactivity in this forum. I added a screenshot of The Saboteur, which I greatly enjoyed! I didn't set the gamma properly in game so the image looks darker that it's supposed to. I'll be adding Dragon Age, S.T.A.L.K.E.R. - Shadow of Chernobyl (with Complete 2009 Mod), Street Fighter IV, Shattered Horizon and a few others after I finish them.
-
-
Updated - Added following games:
Street Fighter IV - Fantastic, lag free multiplayer and arcade modes
S.T.A.L.K.E.R: Shadow of Chernobyl - Most realistic first person shooter I've come across. It's gorgeous when you use the Complete Mod 2009.
Dragon Age: Origins - A solid class RPG experience developed by Bioware, one of my favorite gaming studios. It's not the best looking or best performing but it has a great main story and cool side quests that take you mystical worlds and locations in a Lord of the Rings type fantasy world.
Coming up:
Modern Warfare 2, Mass Effect 2 and Shattered Horizon. -
You should be quite happy with Mass Effect 2. I have a 6860 with a t9300 and it runs perfectly smooth.
-
I ran it at max settings at 1920x1200. I just have to get to posting screenshots.
Gateway FX laptops - Best value gaming laptop released. I still can't find another 17'' laptop with a 1920x1200 and a 1GB dedicated gaming graphics card for less than $1100. -
Update: Added Bad Company 2 and Mass Effect 2.
-
Hey man awesome stuff!
I have a 7809u and our specs are fairly similar.
I have one question though, did you overclock your video card at all?
Mass Effect 2 for the most part is smooth, but there are parts (like in Afterlife where I'm speaking with someone) and it slows down.
That's something I want to fix and fast. Keep doing what you do man, awesome -
Everything is at stock settings as mentioned in the original post. I did not experience any lag in Mass Effect 2. Have you made sure your laptop is set to "High Performance"? Check by hitting the Windows key and X key and setting the power settings. Make sure you have updated your graphics card driver too.
-
I get very smooth gameplay on DA:O and Bfbc2 as well. DA on max settings 1920x1200 4xAA, while Bfbc2 on mostly very high settings with no AA.
-
It is because you have a modified CPU and an overclocked GPU. I could not get 30 fps in Bad Company 2 without setting it at 1920x1200 with medium settings. Even then, when I come across a lot of dust and smoke, there is a little lag. Anything higher dropped the fps to around 20, which is not playable online.

Added Zeno Clash. -
*Updated*
Added Alpha Protocol.
Despite what most of the negative reviews state, this game is VERY fun. It's as if someone mashed The Bourne Identity with Mass Effect and Splinter Cell. -
Question, how did you get VtMB to run 1920x1200? the most I can crank mine up to is 1600x1200.
As for Alpha Protocol, I can't wait to get my hands on it. Waiting for mail in Afghanistan sucks, and the BX (if you want to call it that...) never has any good games. -
AP's dialogue and voice acting is fantastic. Its gameplay is sub par but the overall product made me feel like it was worth the $50 I spent on it. Considering it's essentially $2.5 for each hour of entertainment (using only one playthrough).
I'm assuming you're asking about Vampire Bloodlines. It took me an hour or two to find the different mods and fixes.
Here's a link to the patch:
Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines - WSGFWiki
Widescreen gaming forum is probably the only resource I know that dedicates itself to playing old games at modern resolutions. I managed to play Splinter Cell: Double Agent in 1920x1200 too. I'll post a pic of that later. -
*Updated*
Added. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2.
I'll pass on getting a screenshot since I do not have it installed anymore and play more Bad Company 2 multiplayer instead. -
*Updated*
Added Rise of the Argonauts. An awful console port with very poor voice acting and awful animation. The 2008 game looks like it was released before 2004.
Note: I just realized that this thread was viewed over... OVER 9000! (couldn't help myself)
-
Make it over 9001!
Thank you for your effort. -
I have a P-7815U and i want to say it does not play all these games on max settings smoothly. I am only playing these games in 1440x900 its only smooth on medium settings not high.

Added Left 4 Dead 2. Coming soon: Shattered Horizon, Overlord 1 and Oblivion. -

Welcome to the community

Thanks
now im looking to upgrade cup any idea what the max cpu i can put in it?
-
Ultimate Destruction Notebook Evangelist
The best CPUs in order of performance are: X9100 (overclockable), T9900, and P9700. The C0 X9100 will run the hottest (look for E0, name QHBL or something like that) and the coolest would be the P9700.

*Updated*
Added Civilization 5.
Note: Be sure to PM me if there are any broken links. -
Explain to me how you play TF2 at highest settings? What's your FPS? And do you have your GPU overclocked?
I can't even put 2xAA on without it dropping below 30fps. -
Ultimate Destruction Notebook Evangelist
I think the 2xAA is your problem.
-
I have no problem with any of my FX's Running any Steam Game on high settings.
-
Your graphics driver might not be up to date. You should be able to play it maxed out (even with AA and AF set to their highest settings). Any Source engine game can be played without any lag whatsoever.
-
TF2 is likes more CPU than GPU. I used to drop into the 20s with my stock CPU and now never go under 40. Overclocking the GPU rarely gives more Frames in TF2 but a faster CPU helps a lot.
The 2xAA shouldn't be a problem at all. -
The user does not need to overclock anything. All my settings are stock and I'm using the stock P8400 2.26 Ghz processor. Something must be acting up on his side.

FIFA 11 and NBA 2K11 added.
Screenshots will be added on later. -
how do u get it both smooth on max?
im runnin win 7 x64 and fifa is lagging while the minimum i got is 39 fps. and NBA stays on 32-33 fps with some stuttering.. -
Look at the thread I made on this forum specifically for NBA 2k11 I have the game running really well on the system benched in my sig http://forum.notebookreview.com/gaming-software-graphics-cards/517559-nba-2k11-3.html
-
I haven't checked with fraps but I made sure I maxed out everything at 1920x1200 and it's as smooth as butter. Check your video driver.
-
what os r u using? i heard they sucks on win7..
-
crazysoccerman14 Notebook Consultant
2K11 is a cpu limited game. I have the stock p8400 and I'm getting 50% max GPU utilization while my processors are maxed out.
-
This is dumb. The difference between 60 fps and 24 fps is night and day. Running Arkham Asylum on max settings at <20 FPS is not 'smooth.'
-
Smooth >=30 fps
It would be have been more constructive to post a valid criticism instead of a silly, vague statement. Batman: AA ran around 30fps at 1920x1200 with no AA as stated in my OP.
*Updated*
Added James Bond: Blood Stone. -
*Updated*
Added Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit. -
Its incredible for me. Maybe gameplay is smooth but no one mentions about slowdowns in certain moments. When fps falls from 30 to 13 for example. For me it sucks. I`d rather play in lower res and dont see such moments.
-
Any specific games that you experienced this slowdown in?
-
Call of Duty Black ops playthrough - Min 24fps, Avg 45fps - Very Playable all settings maxed - 1440x900
-
What's your FPS for L4D2 again?
I am getting an average framerate of 40s. Think I may be doing something wrong.
Specs:
T9900 @ 3.06Ghz
8GB ram -
*Updated*
Added Fallout New Vegas.
I haven't played the game yet. I don't think I will since I am not a fan of it. However, the game has higher CPU requirements than the previous COD installment so I am sure it's much more taxing.
Considering that L4D2 runs on the Source engine and its dependency on CPUs, I would consider your fps a bit on the low side. Your T9900 should be playing the game with no problems. -
I was wondering about that myself....
What Nvidia driver version are you using? I am just using the latest one that I get from the Nvidia control panel update option. I am also maxed out on 1920*1200 screen though. -
I will help you contribute actual hard numbers
-
258.96 is my current driver version. Thanks for the offer of helping out with hard numbers but you don't have to. I think my categorization fits fine.
Smooth = 30 fps+
Very smooth = 60 fps+ -
I'd say very smooth is 45+ while extremely smooth being 60+. I can tell a difference between 30,45,60 but anything beyond 60 seems absolutely the same to me (tried on a 120hz projector).

Bumped to show that the Gateway FX gaming notebook community is still allive and kicking!
