Love mine too, by far the best laptop I've ever owned .

Any chance you think it might run battlefield 3?

After getting Rage to run as fluidly as I have on a stock CPU, I don't believe I will have any trouble with B3 at 1440x900

here are my settings quoted from another post if anyones interested

I have tried battlefield 3 now and its very playable on my P-7805u. I have all settings set set to high except both terrain options set to medium and everything below it off and AA 1x at 1440x900, also I should note that I had to downgrade my video driver to 280.26 to get rid of a nasty lag from the 285.62, it still has a small amount of lag but im pretty sure thats because of bugs that still need to be addressed in a patch, anyone with a T9900 or an X9100 should experience better gameplay.

-EDIT- I also forgot to add that I have vsync off, with it on I experience an all around slow down and the game does not seem to run at full speed, you can really see it in the opening video.

On the first run I experienced the same thing, and found that disabling Vsync and Triple buffering and Motion Blur return speed to normal. I was amazed when I first ran it with Ultra settings (disabling SSAO and AA and with medium terrain) the game actually ran smoothly. I didn't imagine it would run at all honestly, at least not on those settings heh. I'll post a video of it soon.

Did you end up using a high number for your pre rendered frames? with your CPU you should be able to crank the number up considerably higher than what I have mine set at (6). I made it to the fighter plane level and it was amazingly smooth with my settings. I actually did not try ultra settings, I just figured it was out of the question lol. I also forgot to add to my first post like you I have motion blur and triple buffering disabled. Also on a side note if anyone does raise the pre rendered frames setting, it will make your cpu run considerably hotter, mine ran on average 20 degrees higher than normal (capping out anywhere from 65 c to 71 c), using throttle stop to read my temps, these temps are without using my cooling pad, so to keep it even cooler and prolong component life I would advise using one.

Now I can't wait for Skyrim to come out!

-EDIT- I did a little more playing around with the pre rendered frames setting and I notice the input lag you referenced but only after I adjusted the frames above 6. The maximum I could go to was 8, but it seems like I had another driver that let me up into the teens. Anyway 6 is the maximum I can go at this point with my driver, anything above makes the input lag an annoyance.

    Guys!
You give me hope in a world of outdated computer specs..
True BF fan, and HATE playing it on a console..
Although specs says I could play it on my stock P-7805u (FX) Laptop, I feared that it would be close to unplayable..
Now I hear BF3 is a LOT better optimized than the BF-BC2 which gives me hope as it ran fairly good on medium settings.. (I'm still on 195.62 drivers)
(however lately it starts bogging down 10 min into gameplay to totally unplayable -which I cant understand? Maybe just the old drivers?)

As I mentioned, I'm on 195.62 (afraid as Ive read other peoples issues when changing drivers on this machine) and haven't done any tweaks, OC or anything (same OS - Vistax64)

I see that rahatee is having success with the 280.26 drivers so I figure that I should try them.

rahatee, or anyone else- what do you recommend that I do to optimize my Laptop (other than updating OS or changing components) to be able to run BF3.
I've built PC's before and would say I'm fairly good with tech- maybe just a little whimpy to mess around too much on a laptop, but if anyone feel like giving me some helpful tips, I'd be thankful.

Any diagnostics tool I could run and post that would give you guys obvious clues?

I just ran a simple system scan on pcpitstop, in case it helps for you tech experts..

    Thanks again..

if after 10 minutes it is unplayabl it is usually either the heat built up and the video chip slowed down or an over clock issue.

With the heat try a good cleaning of the ports with compressed air. If this doesn't doo the trick a disassembly and reaplication of thermal paste may be in order.

The overclock issue is where there is an error in memory and te system then slows the video memory to a crawl until reboot. If you overclock try lowering the settings, particularlly the memory speed.................

    ......wow....

I just took my laptop apart, expecting some dust on the fan blades and a little more..

boy!!! These heatsinks were absolutely clogged with dust....
Cleaned it up, put it back together..

I haven't had a chance to play a game yet, but I have a feeling it will perform better....

Good advice if you've had it for a while...
    :D

Well, I finally took the step to update to 280.26 drivers after reading that it seems to be working fine...
Dust is gone, and new drivers = no more slowdown issues...
And honestly, it seems as if the game IS a bit snappier.. Maybe I need to yank up the settings :D
I wish there was a demo for BF3 so I could give it a try..

Possible heat throttle? Try running HW Monitior in the background to see max CPU/GPU temps during play. The 8800 slow protects around 100-105C. I forgot to add that your heat pipes (2) may be blocked with dust if you have not cleaned them for many moons.

I read on the other forum that such situation may be caused by the lack of higher memory amount on display card and the textures are taken from RAM. However 9800 has 1GB of Vram. Isn`t it enough?
And whats the most funny thing is.
WHen I was playing BLOOD (1997) the same thing happened . LOL

I would say that the two games are very different in terms of combat and overall polished story. The combat in Knights of Amalur feels akin to Jade Empire, Fable and God of War.

By the way, have you tried playing L.A. Noire? I am getting some terrible performance numbers of on my laptop. Do you remember your settings? I'm lagging even at 1280x800 with everything set to "performance".

I am playing on 1920x1200 on my original laptop display and I am VERY pleased to see that I can play the game @ the native resolution with maxed settings with smooth performance!!
I will post some pics soon.

I am jealous. I can't even get it to run smoothly at 1280x800. It doesn't make sense when I can run Skyrim, Knights of Amalur and other system intensive games at 1920x1200 without any problems. It seems to me like Rockstar failed to make a good PC port.

I'm looking forward to seeing how you configured your laptop to be able to run it so well.

Here are some pics I took with FRAPS and settings are all on Quality no Ssao 4x AF (16x through Control Panel), no AA and vsync on (with triple buffering through D3D overrider). Game runs very smooth, strangely almost the same as in 1280x720.

    Here's a short video I made http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ytmIGM1Yv6w&feature=channel_video_title

I have done nothing new with my laptop in the last few months. Basically changed my thermal paste a while back, temps are fine, GPU same overclock (actually lowered my core clock to 710, because it was crashing in Skyrim @ 1920x1200). Cpu running overclocked @ 3.325Ghz & 1.23v.

Updated. Added The Witcher 2. Can't wait for the Enhanced Edition (extra chapter and characters and free for all of you who bought the game). It's better than Skyrim. Finally managed to tweak the settings and make it work with help from androsforever.

CPU limitation. The 20 fps most probably happens when there are a large number of zombies on screen. Use Recommended Settings while leaving the resolution at 1920x1200.

The game was absolutely fantastic but the ending... The ending(s) is/are TERRIBLE.

That is the game I am looking forward to. I am on my 3rd play through of The Witcher. Can't get enough of the way the came plays. Has all the characteristics of a FPS, but with more story to keep me interested. Not a quick and dirty game, but action is around the corner.

Too bad I am a cheap ...don't want to pay $30 for it.

The X9100 makes a big difference. Hope you find the upgrade worthwhile like I have.

    @Omexis
Ah, that would be a pity considering Bioware simply tweaked the engine for better performance with more lighting effects and such.

It goes on sale quite often on Steam, Amazon and Gog.com. I bought it for $15 on Amazon. I'm definitely going to preorder Witcher 3 considering CD Projekt Red announced that any and all DLC (including expansion packs) for The Witcher 2 are free. It's the complete opposite of what Bioware/EA is doing with Mass Effect 3. Bioware had the nerve to release Day 1 DLC with a very important character
and there is a message to anyone who got past the credits to wait for DLC to actually complete the game.
