Just received my refurb from TigerDirect. Wanted another one. :D

It's got the 1920x1200 screen. The manufacture date is 11 18 08. It's from the first batch.

So I guess they are shipping 1920's too. Probably going to be a crap shoot just like Best Buy.

how much is this going to knock resale value... because my friend now decided to decide that he is not actually getting it... now that's it's in my house.....

So yea, how is this going to effect the resale value? (on ebay)

Some friend :(. You should charge him for false promises.

As for the resale value on Ebay, you could probably get a solid $900-$1000 for it. You might want to include a word or two about how the competition is overpriced and smelly.

Which one were you planning on selling now, the open one or the mysterious closed one? If you are going to sell the open one, just say it was opened to verify the contents of the package.

You can adjust the price accordingly to compensate for the "possible loss" or you can just give the buyers a nice $50 discount. As long as you keep your prices competitive to the competition, you should be fine.

Try Craigslist as well. There shouldn't be any competition, or very little.

    feh, oh well.

throw it on ebay...even if you sell it for "only" $900, you should clear $150 after fees and shipping.

ETA: that's only if you picked up the extra 5% off from MS Live cashback

It seems as though the laptops are causing you to speak jibberish and stutter. :p

It seems the the 138 laptops are the 1920x1200 where the 139 are the standard 1440x900.

    *edit
I'm starting to doubt Tigerdirect.. I think someone should start rating their purchases on the site.

Yea.. i jsut talked to Gateway support...

They first said: there is no warrenty on this

    and i was like WTH?!?!?!?!
then they said, wait.. was this a refurb?
    and i said yea...
Then they gave me a number to call (i was online chatting)

    I'm fricken pissed...

Frankly, the 1440x900 problems i can fix my self, that's not a problem...

but the 1920x1200 one is really weird...
it does not artifact while it is being stressed... it's after it is being stressed, once i'm in windows.... which really confuses me... and i doubt that it's heat, because it does it at 60c too...

    Odd...

Maybe i should just transplant the screen of this one into the body of that other one, and swap out the fans, so i have one working one, and one kinda working one (that i will then send to gateway to fix, so i don't have to send both out).
    Opinions? and thoughts?

Switching screens sounds like the best idea, I've no idea how the process works or how it affects your warranty. Can't you just RMA one of the laptops and get a replacement? I'd prefer that over having it serviced.

Tigerdirect = no replacement or refund option (i did send them an email though)

Problem being, their out of stock any way...

I'm gona crack one of them open tomorrow and see if there are any warrenty stickers i need to look for...
If not, i'm thinking i'm going to do the transplant.

Also, any one know what happens if i get a square trade warrenty then? because they are supposed to extend through the manufacturer i thought

So you mean transplant the problems into one laptop, and RMA that one? (assuming they even let me RMA it)

Thats funny i sent the one that I recieved back to tiger, demanding a refund, the first told me I had to send it in to Gateway but then I ended up sending it back to tiger.. You have to keep on tigerdirect and they will accept it back for return.

Does the laptop not qualify for the 30-day IRON CLAD guarantee?

I would be on Tigerdirect's back like a baby Koala. They must have some really low standards :(

My parents were already unhappy with me ordering online again...
(last 3 laptops from the internet came with problems)
    So this will be interesting...

    As a side note though...
Can any one possibly even think of a reason why it does not artifact while it's being loaded, only after load in windows, and only sometimes?

I would say that according to this:
For warranty coverage assistance or to exchange a defective product please call the manufactuer's technical support number at: 866-539-3901

You should be able to make an exchange? Is that the number you called nacr?

    That would be gateway's number...
They will tell you that you don't have a warrenty, then you will freak out, then they will say "oh, refurbished... call this number"
Then you wull have to send it to gateway to be repaired...

EDIT: I'm gona update my BIOS and see if that changes anything...

Sounds like a bad windows image or the OS wasn't fully reinstalled from whoever had it before. I had the same problem with my toshiba until I reinstalled the OS, and using the vista tweaks found here at NBR.

You could have also tried the GW recovery feature. That's the first thing I did with my 7805u. Works like a dream now--

Yea... if these wern't such a goo deal (well A i would not have purchased them) but i would be yelling and throwing a fit at tigerdirect right now...

Luckly, they were cheap, and i could unload them (even with their issues) for what i paid...

    But any way...
So yea, those guys is who the 90 days is from...
So actually, if any one wants to return theirs for money back, all you need to say is that they deceived you, because gateway says they have nothing to do with these systems, and you need to contact Renovation...

So I ordered 2. The online invoice says one SN is 138 and the other is 139. So I get the 1920x1200 and the wife gets 1440x900. She'll be real happy with that as long as it doesn't have any issues. Should be here Tuesday!

My serial number has neither 138 or 139. It's almost exactly the MPN. Does that mean CSR screwed up?

if you have a problem, call TigerDirect, don't email them. The phone reps I've dealt with have been very nice.

My lappy arrived, 1440x900 as expected. Oh well. No dead pixels!
