i thought it was odd yesterday seeing someone ask 1100.00ish for a refurb. today however, some enterprising soul has put up two refurbs for 1399.00 a piece.

I got 3x P-7805u from Tiger today, examined each one. I must say the quality is much better than the P-7811FX refurbs which I had 6 and 3 of them had to go back due to over-heat, random reboots, etc.

Although none of the ones I received has a 1920x1200 screen, they actually look better in some ways. The WUXGA always had this cloudiness effect in them where as these 1440x900 screens are much more uniform in color and brightness.

All 3 has been tested and ran through with my burn-in tests and passed.

I noticed the new system has a lot more bloatware than the 7811FX, those had the best pre-installed Vista, light and simple. Luckily I made a copy of the 7811FX restore disc and I will use that to restore these without the bloatware.

any serial number that is less than 13851 has the wuxga screen. Just to inform everybody.

Also the ebay prices are going down. You can pick one up for $900 now. I would say hurry because when 7811 refurbs came out the prices went down to $800s but after a month they wnet back to $1100 level. If you want one this the time to buy.

I'll be selling these with upgraded CPUs and raid setup. If you don;t want to hassle with the upgrades you are more than welcome to visit my ebay store.

    Thanks

it's worth a shot, but i guess these laptops just have random issues like that,
Ex. I have one (one of my 2) that will artifact after being loaded, not while being loaded... its odd...

    WAIT!

Do you have direct x installed?

The 7805u would be the better bet, There pretty much the same except the 7805u has an extra 512mb of vram which would help in certian games and games to come in the future. the 7811 has the WUXGA but then some of the 7805u's have the WUXGA too.

Received my 3 yesterday hoping I got a good one. I don't know how to really stress test them but I download furmark. After 25 minutes or so max temp was around 82c. Is this too hot?? I ended selling one locally thinking everythings fine but the guy called later saying it's freezing up or something and is giving him some error message. I offered to give him another one of the laptops but they both also max out at about 82c. Don't know what to do. Are all of these defective, does he need a cooler, or what. It's kind of hard to belive that all 3 are bad. I loaded a game on one and it seemed fine so I don't know. Could he just need to raise the back up or change the power settings off high?? What's the max temperture these should reach?

He needs to remove any table cloth etc from the table. Also raising the computer an inch goes a long way. 80C is about the max temp htese machines usually go. It can be upto 85C. I don;t think those computers are bad.

After thinking about buying one at Best Buy for $1,150, checking ebay and finding refurbs for $900, seeing WUXGA refurbs for $1,050, and then finding out that Tiger Direct had/has them for $699, I pretty much have one question...

When was Tiger Direct supposed to be restocking? I read the 4th, and today is the 4th and I don't see any. :(

I want to jump on this one...

so if I'm clear on what I've read in here:

1.) These laptops can be hit and miss. And if they miss, you can RMA for exchange to Tigerdirect...with some serious effort involved.

2.) It's a total crapshoot as far as which display resolution you wind up with. It can be either the WXGA or the WUXGA...and there's no apparent rhyme or reason to who gets what.

anything else I should know before I decide if I'm going to jump on one of these?

    3.) It's $700 for a system that's $1,150 new.

    That's all I can think of. :)

I just got my 2 and as expected, 1 is a 1920x1200 and the other is 1440x900. Both look good as new, both purr. The 1440x900 blue screened about 5 minutes after boot up but hasn't in the 3 hours since. I've run all updates plus installed Office 2007 Enterprise. I "decrapified" it too using PC Decrapifier. So far so good.

I think I had the same problem as you, I thought it was light artifacting but it was just a loose connection to the monitor. I don't know if it's relating to the 1920x1200 screens because I got one too. Here's a link to fix it.

lurking for a while now, but finally got my first windows based laptop, and its a refurb 7805u from tigerdirect. Like most other people on here, it did not come with restore discs, although it did come in a gateway branded box hmm. I know people have been saying another company did the refurb jobs on these, and i think thats true seeing as how gateway doesnt make these things here, like dell.

Anyways, my laptop was cosmetically perfect, no loose screws, smudges and or broken keys. It booted right up, actually, it took vista about 45mins to get this thing going. I ran furmark for about an hour at 16x AA Gpu got up to 97c and went down to 85 with a dvd case underneath it. I forgot to mention i was one of the unlucky people that got a AUO 1440x900 screen, but it has no dead pixels and no light bleed so im happy.

Im now searching for a good sleeve or whatever for this thing, i had a brand new incase for a macbook pro, but this is waaay to big. what kind of sleeves is everyone using? also need a cheap wireless mouse, does anyone have any sugguestions?

To end this novel rife with spelling mistakes, I am very satisfied with my purchase, it was shipped promptly arrived in good condition and for $702 shipped i couldnt beat this deal. I still sometimes do think about if i should have bought an aluminum macbook instead or splurged on a macbook pro, but at least I have an iMac to fall back on! apple haters dont flame me!

Mine is on the way scheduled for delivery on the 14th. I don't see where you can look at the serial numbers, so I don't know which screen I'm getting.

Tsa, at least you're willing to give a PC a shot without looking for things to hate about it. That's one of the things I notice from the mac owners I know when they use a PC.
Me, I use whatever offers the most power and capability for my money. Macs are generally too expensive to fit that bill.
