I just finished my downgrade on my friend´s computer.

we started to install some programs and everything OK but yahoo messenger latest version gave us an error "breakpoint" or something when we try to login to the chat session.
The program installs normal and we already did it twice...so that can´t be wrong.

Have you experienced this error after installing XP on gatew t1616?
I´m using Kira´s driver kit and everything else seems to work normal

thanks in advance for your help.

FYI: I have a MX8741 - The driver provided by Kira and following the instructions in the topic resulted in working audio in Windows XP Pro.

This machine came with Vista - and our CEO bought this for a home user thinking Gateway would be kind enough to provide Winxp Pro drivers... LOLZ!

Nevertheless - the Sigmatel audio was the hardest part of the downgrade. Thanks Kira.

Searching through these forums I managed to get wireless working. The only 'problem' left is the card reader,it is permanently displayed in windows explorer, even when there is no card inserted into it.
Anybody has any solution for this?
And one other thing, has anybody tested HDMI on XP,does it work? Do I need any special drivers for HDMI?

Sorry, I did not see your model, try the ati site,Click on "Installation Verification Software", and it should auto detect the right driver, select download for the internet when it asked you.

You may try unistalling the stock driver, then run the Installation Verification Software off the website. Or try this site: http://www.majorgeeks.com/download5411.html

I googled ATI Catalyst™ Mobility 8.2 Display Driver for Windows XP that is the driver I think you need.
    I hope this helps

Jesus Christ! It worked!!! Everybody, screw finding the video drivers from dell or ati or any of the previous links mentioned in this Thread. Go to the link Dirty Pirate Posted for video. its a .exe and it worked perfectly. No having to do the "have disk" option or anything. I got to give special thanks to Dirty Pirate and Flynnaz for all their help with the drivers. If you guys are ever in Wisconsin, stop by and lets have some beers on me.

p.s. Now........anyone successfully found/installed the chipset drivers yet????????

    -bL

Guys the latest version of cataylst from ati's site finally supports the x1270 in XP, don't know about vista though. It will install it as x1200 series I believe.

    http://www.atitech.com

Still cannot get the chipset drivers and left with 2-3 UNKNOWN DEVICES.

Forgive me, but I do not understand, "use 'have disk' option. Where do you get that option? I've been going into device manager, right-clicking, and selecting "update driver".

Don't have the following working: Webcam, Sound, Multimedia Keys, and Universal (USB) Serial Controller.

How do I undo what I did wrong, and how do I re-install with the "have disk" option?

    Chipset ATI SB600 Drivers(Southbridge)

Ok guys, here you go.. Those last few question marks resolved. Hope this works for you as well.
    1. downloaded the driver file pack from http://www.nodans.com/index.cfm/2007/11/9/XP-Drivers-for-Toshiba-A215--S7428
    2. unzipped
    3. installed the driver with the following steps:
    a. Install from a list or specific location (Advanced)
    b. Don't search. I will choose the driver to install.
    c. click on the (have disk) button
    d. browse for the folder you unzipped. in the folder look for \ATI SB600 CHIPSET\ATI SB600 CHIPSET\SMBUS\SMBUSati.inf then click open.
    e. I did it for the 3 remaining question marks and ran it for an hour, seems to be running properly.

the multimedia keys are just a regedit file arent they? I know the 3 buttons from the left next to the power button definitely are.

so is it true, we can now convert to xp with no more exclamations in device viewer?

Wow 4 hours later and this thing is updated and running perfect, thx to all the posts here. The sound was the hardest part for sure, and I do not recommend anyone downgrading this to XP unless you know what you are doing. Its not for the faint of heart !!!!
I will say the results are great tho, laptop sure works alot better with xp on it, so follow the posts and good luck. thx again for all the help here great work guys.

P.S. anyone found the other chipset drivers?

Revisa bien tu descarga o sino hasla nuevamente, acabo de descargar las dos partes y me descomprime normal, sino prueba haciendo lo siguiente:

    1.- Descarga la parte I
    2.- Descarga la parte II
3.- Ubica las dos descargas en una misma carpeta de tu disco duro
    4.- Clic derecho a la parte I y ok a todo.

    Suerte!

I realize this thread is quite old but I am hoping it will get rekindled just enough. I took my t1616 back to tried and tested winXP and this forum post was the biggest help when it came to finding drivers. I ended up using the Omega stuff for the video, which was the hardest part by far. I was able to download ADANYC part 2 rar file but the part 1 seems to be missing or broken. I am hoping it gets re-upped so I can clean up the last few nagging issues I have.

Otherwise, I feel extremely lucky to have stumbled upon this page and forum. Lots of good info! :)
