So after installing the game (which took an amazing one whole hour) I managed to safely maneuver through this Games for Windows Live crap signup/update. I start up the game and am greeted with major stuttering.
GoW is all on max/dx10 and the frames are at 40 (according to fraps) but I get MAJOR stuttering. Has anyone else played it on their gateway? Suggestions please.
P.S I am using drivers 175.80

First thing I would do is turn the graphics all the way down and see if it still does it.

Yeah I've played it fine. Using a no-DVD crack though. I assume this is whilst on AC power - it sounds like it could be a powermizer issue. Have you tried other drivers or tried disabling powermizer?

the stuttering issues are a known issue with this game. i bought it the day it came out and the support for it has been a joke at best . you can run it high or even highest settings and the DX10 features are only so you can enable AA so just turn it on dx9 . i would try a couple different sets of drivers cause some stutter more then others and go to the official GOW forums and poke around there for some more info and also make sure you defrag asap .

Stuttering is a bug with this lousy port, It stuttered BAD with my quadcore/8800 ultra desktop pc and I read on the forums everyone was having the same problem so I didn't even bother installing the game on my 6860fx...
Multiplayer is playable though, such a shame since I really wanted to play the new campaign levels and those are the ones that stuttered the most. -
I isolated the problem in my case. Disabling the DX 10/AA option gets rid of the stuttering. I don't know if it was just bad porting/coding. I have everything else on max.
I'll try out some other drivers when I get the chance. Thanks for the comments anyways. -
Iamtheanimal, if you don't mind me asking: what drivers are you using for the GoW currently? 177.41?
I forgot to mention I don't have Powermizer installed. tHx anyway -
Yeah I have 177.41 and powermizer is part of the drivers:

I got most of the stuttering resolved (some still remain but I think it is just now occasional gpu lag). I used an external app (eNhancer) to force AA so I don't have to have the DX10 option turned on just to get AA.

Gears of War was easily one of the worst ports for the PC in the last year. Sad thing is, our beloved P-FX has a sticker of it placed on the palm rest! (Fantastic game for 360, horrible for PC)

The little known fact not trumpeted on the box covers was that the porting process was done not by the original Epic team but by a Polish game studio named "People Can Fly," a subsidiary acquired by Epic Games.
Gears of War stuttering- 6860
