Thought I would stop by and put in my 2 cents I know alot of people are waiting on these. I stopped by my local Best Buy in South Carolina today and asked about this laptop. They actually had 1 on hand and it was not out it was hidden in back. I assume that this was the one that was ment to be the display model but it was new in the box. The salesman had to find it on the computer this was the only one they had and he didnt even no what it was or that they had any. The salesman asked the manager and he said sale it. The salesman said they should have more in a week or so because they were showing that the distribution center had them. I had gotten the Toshiba F55-q02 but exchanged it. Quick thoughts besides the obvious spec differences I liked the speaker/audio setup on the Toshiba much better sound for a laptop. I hated the display though and the case is a fingerprint magnet the display was the reason I took it back. If you dont hit it just at the right angle is looks washed out. The Gateway is much nicer overall. I do not like that they partion the drive as 2 88 gig drives and as stated previous the speaker setup isnt near as nice as the Toshiba, but thats not to say its bad, its just what you would normally expect from a laptop. I thought the Toshiba was nice overall, but I fricking love the 7811 and think everyone will be very happy. :)

O nice! get some benchmarks up etc, like to see if there is a huge difference from the 8800M GTS to 9800m GTS...doubt it though.

How does it score in 3D mark 06. I know it isn't really an accurate representation of a machine's overall performance but I think it's a good way to gauge its relative performance to other notebooks.

Yes. You definitely should run some benches on it when you get a chance. Theres a lot of people drooling over that laptop and would love to know the hairy details. Congrats on getting such a great laptop AND being the first one on the forum to get one!

Technically I think someone else got it. But he's at work and can't open it yet. Poor guy.

So... if I'm understanding this, you guys demanding pictures for a laptop probably looks visually similar to the earlier FX models? :p

I'm just curious as to whether the Gears of War sticker is still there.

I am downloading 3dmarks06 as we speak, will post results a bit later. I am not a laptop wiz, I just play games :) Someone asked for operating temps, tell me what program I need or where to find it and I will post them. The Windows ratings are as follows: CPU 5.2 RAM 5.9 Graphics and Gaming Graphics are both 5.9 HDD 5.4

I was wondering the same thing about the pics, but I think there may be an ulterior motive in people asking for them. I think it may be their way of saying "prove it" lol.

Hmm. After googling "Platform ID 7" I found this tid bit in another forum:

"Package Socket 479 mPGA (platform ID = 7h)

Which means it IS the SL9VA with a Ratio of 13."

And after checking Intel, the SL9VA is a FCPGA processor.

Now, if this really proves anything is a different story..........

the temps of the Gateways aren't that good. My Sager NP5796 has better temps (my p8400 gets 28 degrees idle and my hard drive gets 42 along with my 9800m GT getting 43)

Of course it is Pin-grid array. The ball-grid array chips are soldered on, which is only done on the cheap/ultra-compact systems...

    Your HDD = 250 GB 5400 RPM

HDD in FX = 200 GB 7200 RPM.

Since we don't know the brands involved, it may very well be the particular drive that's running hot.

Secondly, we don't know if he's idling.

Lastly, GPU temps are comparable at 42 - 45.

Still, those are perfectly fine temps.

I must say 28's nice temps. Undervolting?

When you post the 3DMark2006 scores, please let us know if you are using Vista 32-bit or 64-bit. Also what drivers. Anyone want to quickly try to guess what kind of results he will be getting ??? God Bless :)

Nah it should be around 7500. same as the 6860fx. Just as the Sager NP5796 is around 9000. Same as the Sager NP5793

    Wrong.

    6860FX = T5550 = 1.83 Ghz

    7811FX = P8400 = 2.26 Ghz

    There'll definitely be an increase.

However, since he's on a 1920 x 1200 screen, his tests should be conducted under 1280 x 1024, instead of the more common 1280 x 800 on the earlier FX series. So don't be surprised his scores aren't what you guys expected.

Also, very nice CPU temp. 25 is impressive. Is that common for most 5796 models?

I think what he'd like is an acknowledgment of his laptops superiority with regards to performance which, since he payed exponentially more for his system relative to his boosted performance, I'm willing to give him

First of all, a nervous congratulations to you Mr. 7811!
Second! It should deffo score more that 8500 under a rather tight 1280x1024 resolution.

And Driedel, may I ask how much you paid for your gem of a machine? Also the current price. Hope it's not as low as Gateway or else it's back to the square one for me.

If anyone who has managed to buy one has time, could you check in the bios if it has an option for Intel VT or hardware DEP now? Or possibly download this utility to see if VT is atleast enabled by default? I have enabled VT on my P-6831FX with a bios hack (after upgrading to a T9500) but it would be nice to know if the new models more directly support it.

payed $1985 USD for mine. Beginning to think I should have bought the 7811 because it has a slightly better HD, better screen res, and 4 gigs of ram vs. my system although a worse video card. Although Sager has better cooling and probably better customer service because I go through a reseller. Probably a better build too but I am not too picky about that kind of stuff so I should have probably bought the 7811. Could have saved $400 for slightly less gaming performance. Oh well.

Your temps may be good but can you sit your laptop in a classroom or office without people wondering why it sounds like an airconditioning window unit ;) (just what I've heard, correct me if I'm wrong about it being real loud)

Speaking of temps, should I bother applying Arctic Silver 5 to the P8400 or do you guys expect that the current thermal compound is just as good?

Also, spd151 can you check for a second HDD slot? I'd like to Raid if possible.

And lastly, could you let me know what model number is the wifi link (4965, 5100, or 5300)?

Oh and can someone speculate as to why the drive is partitioned like that? What's the benefit?

Nah man, awesome deal. My opinion in terms of performance to price on (budget) gaming notebooks >>

    Gateway>Sager>Toshiba>Dell

I am pretty sure you can upgrade your processor easily?
Best cooling always helps...I remember my desktop X1650 Radeon Idling at 69 C...Jeez!

I wouldnt bother applying AS5 just run hwmonitor when you get it and see what the temps are and others will let you know if you need to reapply thermal grease or not .

there will be a second hd slot because this is essentially the same as the 6860 so dont even sweat thinking there isnt one cause there will be .

As for the harddrive partition its more then likely that one of the partitions has the restore software on it just like the 6860s have although 2 88gigs is abit weird but oh well nothing that cant be corrected .

Nah, I'm pretty sure fingerprint reader is out. Rather hard to miss.

Bluetooth might have been missed though, and it would be a very welcome surprise. You can always use a PCMCIA bluetooth card, since most users won't be using their slot anyway.
