Yes that was the default resolution, no bluetooth, no fingerprint scanner, give me a few and I will check on extra hd slot.

    Okay. Thank you.

    That's a pretty decent score.

Well, no bluetooth is a bummer but unexpected.

Prepare to get questions on the screen next. lol.

He already answered with reference to my earlier post. 1280 x 1024.

I am going to guess without some messing around that I have the current drivers. Checking the Nvidia site it says I need to goto the Gateway site for drivers for the card. Checking the Gateway site was no help the laptop is not showing on there support site yet for drivers.

NP at all, I found this site while I was laptop hunting and I have found all kinds of nice information here. I would not have known about the 7811 if I had not been looking around, so just trying to return the good Karma. Logging for the night so everyone take care. I want another HD now that I know there is an empty slot sitting there,,,,,hmmmmm

^ What's wrong with the card? If you're going to switch out all these parts to upgrade it, then why not spend the same amount of money on a more powerful notebook by Sager or Alienware?

I drove to our local best buy today to see if they happened to have one. The guy I asked said they had one it looked like on the way, and that I should check in later this week... So I think if there's someone out there who wants one as bad as me he might get his hands on it first! I have to wait til Sunday to go again, I might just call all of the ones within 50 miles though. Do you guys think it'll be fully out there next Sunday??

Wow I'm more tired than I thought!

Just ordered 4 hdd caddy screws and a second seagate momentus 200gb 7200 rpm for $127 including shipping (the first comes with the laptop of course) so I can set it them to raid right when I get it. Everything on both HDD's is erased when I do this, right?

P.S., i haven't figured out how to upgrade to the wifi link 5300 or even if I can, so I'll have to hold off on that now, most likely won't even happen.

and if you can run hwmonitor after boot and leave it running in the backgraound, game as you like and take a look at the max temp colomn, better yet post a picture of it.

use print screen + paint or the vista snipping tool.

Does anyone know if the screen is better on the new Gateway? I'd really consider this one with the 9800M GTS if it doesn't have the same horrible screen (no offense to any owners). I saw the display model for the original at BestBuy and it had the worst screen out of every laptop on display, I'm a videophile, so the display on anything I use (computer, phone, etc.) is sort of a big deal to me.

i do remember people upgrading to 1920x1200 screens were reporting better viewing angles and colors, however, different eye balls give different opinions, i am quite happy with that "horrible screen" so i guess you'd better go check it out yourself once it hits your local BB.

I'm probably sleepy and not thinking straight but do you have your power settings in "power saver" ?

CPU-Z (and I think the HWmonitor log but I can't remember but probably true since it's made by the same people) say the CPU is running at 1.6 GHz while the P8400 should run at 2.26 GHz. I don't know if that affected the previous benchmarks or maybe is just that CPU-Z is not reading the new chips correctly or maybe I should just go to sleep.

Edit: I'm pretty sure the multiplier should be 8.5 and not 6 so probably the computer is not in "high performance mode"

No it says its in High Performance mode, not sure what the deal is there. I pulled both the bottom covers, man I like how this is setup. Gateway has made it very easy to do upgrades, the extra HD slot, the cpu, ram, and wireless card are all right there and easy to get to.

    :D thank you

yah its normal, just speed stepping at work, when the system is not very bussy, it clocks down the cpu to save power.

Looks like it runs about as cool as the 6831fx, maybe a little better... but that's probably about to be expected, since it's the same chassis, correct? Good job though spd151, it's all much appreciated :D

Theres some performance to be gained from raid0 but you will have to reload the OS and everything else you have to run raid . Id do some google searching on it and see if its really worth your time.

Well I can upgrade to a Sager for another $600-700, or I can upgrade to an alienware for another $1k+... or I can upgrade my wifi card for $30. Hope that answers your ques lol

But you also asked what's wrong with the card. Nothing really wrong with it, it's a good card, but of the three intel centrino cards (4965 for centrino 1, 5100 for centrino 2, and 5300 for centrino 2) it is arguably the worst. In fact, older FX's were built with the 4965's, but this one comes with the downgraded (and cheaper) 5100.

    See here:
    http://www.anandtech.com/cpuchipsets/intel/showdoc.aspx?i=3356&p=6

unfortunately, this was the only 5300 pcie mini-card that I could find for sale, so now I need to figure out if it's compatible: http://accessories.us.dell.com/sna/...x?c=us&l=en&s=dhs&cs=19&sku=430-3125#Overview

    very expensive though...

I thought the P-7811 was suppose to run on PC-6400 DDR3 memory? Under the "Memory" tab in CPU-Z, it says DDR2...Can someone point me in the right direction? Thanks in advance :)

Can you comment on the lcd screen?

How's the viewing angles and such?

I really want a screen that's uniform to at least some decent degree instead of having inverted colors at normal viewing angle.

    Makes watching movies really sucky.

EDIT: And to comment about the DDR3 being DDR2, I'm betting CPUZ hasn't got to updating the software where it'll detect DDR3 yet. If you check the last tab of the picture though, you can clearly see the ram is running under the SPD For 533 which is 1066 double pumped which equates to its normal DDR3 speed and SPD timings.

What's really interesting though is the ram has timing 610mhz which equates to 1220mhz of ram. I wonder if the ram in the new intel chipset can be overclocked...
