I am using the same stand (great for portability). So, if your CPU is running normally and your not leaving the bay doors off...then you were lucky to get an exceptionally cool running chip. Wanna trade? :D But in all seriousness I am pretty happy with these temps considering the increase in CPU speed and the 10W difference of this chip.

HAHA, no its all closed up just like it was before. I'm going to a lanparty Friday - Sunday so I'll be pushing it all weekend. My buddy is having all the guys over to his house and we will be playing games from Friday afternoon about 3pm to Sunday afternoon. NO WIFES OR GIRLFRIENDS!!! I see your point about the chip. It hadn't really crossed my mind though. I thought the TIM was the big deal but maybe I got lucky and its a cool running chip???

It's 7 of my buddies which gives us 8 gamers.
We will be playing L4D2, Borderlands, TF2, Frontlines,Sins, C&C3,Red Alert3,Call of Duty 4, Battle for middle earth 1 and 2, maybe litch king too.
Sins will likely be at least a 10-15 hour game at least. We will be eating all kinds of good(bad!!) stuff and there will be drinks.(of many types)

I will likely fire up Knights of the old Republic during some breaks.

It fluctuates because of the processes running in the background. Especially if you have your AV fully functional. Even something loke CoreTemp makes it increase slightly.

xarthos your T9900 is idling in the 15c-20c range? What was your p8400's average idle temp?

That is true. But my point was with the AS5 it seemed to be more resistive to these minor quick fluctuations in temperature...not sure why but this is what I saw.

Xarthos, sounds like a killer LP...I would really have to make some concessions to my wife in order leave all weekend for a LP so I am not sure it would be worth it $$$ ;).

They were much higher with the P8400. 35c-45c
I think its the TIM used but only time will tell. As of right now they are still 15c-20c! Idle 5 mins after startup under windows 7.

My P8400 got around the same temps. The T9900 is 10W more than the P8400, I'm happy with my 80's F temp. I'm much happier with my temps since I switched thermal grease.

so anyone else have anything to add about this processor?

I recently put in an order for one to upgrade my 7811FX. I had thought about upgrading to a P9500 last year, but I didn't think the upgrade to 2.53 Ghz was worth it.

Can't wait for this chip to come in, plus a Hitachi 7K500 Travelstar 500GB 7200rpm HDD, and Windows 7!

I wouldn't have done all this without seeing this thread first.

I agree, I wouldn't of upgrade either if it wasn't for this thread, well the CPU that is. Would be nice if Gateway made the FX notebooks with replaceable GPU's that would add years onto the life of these. Windows 7 runs smooth on my notebook, I like it a lot better than Vista. I even upgraded my stickers on my notebook. Guess the only thing to think of is what kind of thermal grease to use. I used the one that came with it and I am happy with the temps.

I put my p8400 into a notebook that came with a slower CPU (P7250), so I got 2 upgrades out of the deal.

Do you have the normal thermal grease that came with the CPU on right now? I am interested to see if your temps drop, can I have a link to where you are buying it at? Might pick one up and use on my desktop.

I am happy to report my temperatures are still uber after a whole weekend of gaming at the lanparty at my friend Kirk's house.

Loaded dragon age and it plays like butter. I am delighted at the upgrade. Oh I also beat Borderlands with my friend Larry Saturday morning. I am like level 37 on my brawler or something like that. I have 2 unlimited shot laser guns now. We played L4D2, 1, COD4, SINS, TF2, Borderlands, Dragon Age, Company of heroes, and a bunch of other junk.

Thanks to this thread I upgraded to a T9900 and I am really happy I did it.

I play Dragon Age as well and when I am moving my party members around the screen kinda skips, does yours do that? I am playing at 1920x1200 I assume it's the game and not my computer as I don't have any other issues with other games like Medieval Total War II, Empire Total War, Call of Duty Modern Warfare 1 & 2, etc..

No skipping but I am playing on an external monitor at 1680 by 1050everything max. It could be the driver maybe. I run 191.05 I believe. I have no overclock of any kind on the GPU. I will try 1920 by 1200 on the laptop tonight and see if it hiccups.

No skip here either, using 191.07. I have the none BETA version of 195.55 at home for putting on here along with Flash 10.1 BETA. Still have issues with notebook drivers for NV that support hardware acceleration for flash.

I don't know where you are located, but either buy online or choose the store location and perhaps there is one close by you.

Ever heard of FRAPS? Dragon Age is not even smooth with 1920x1200, 0xAA, max details and VSYNC on for me (3.5ghz T9900, GTX260M overclocked heavily). VSYNC off, the frames sit in the 40s, but screen tearing is terrible.

I just do it the easy and cheap way, I get a couple of small cardboard boxes and place one at the front of the laptop and another one at the back. Mind you my front box is about 2 inches high, while my rear box is about 3 inches high giving it a nice angle. I overclock my GPU and never experience overly high temperatures and I've been doing it for almost a year now.

It may be throttling the CPU due to your TZS0 temperature. I just recently upgraded to a T9900 plus 2 Hitachi 7K500 and Windows 7 and all my games would run fine at first but then start to stutter as soon as alot of action started happening in games. At first I thought is might be the new hdds I added when I noticed using HWMonitor that my TZS0 temp would spike to 98 degrees while I was gaming. It's a known issue with the 7811 and I've seen it go that high before when I was stock without any issues. Anyway, I checked out the following thread and using the solution proposed by member moral hazard has cleared things up for me

    http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=298342&page=22

Check around the last 5 pages or PM moral hazard, he seems very willing to help out.

Also, I'm loving the T9900, everything is running faster, thanks to RangerXML for starting this thread!

I ordered my T9900 on the 5th and yesterday was scheduled to be shipped on the 18th... today I checked again and it said it would be shipped on the 20th... jeez I might just cancel my order with them since it hasn't even been processed yet.

I would just be patient. Same thing happened to me and I'm glad I waited. Once it is actually shipped you should get it fast. Their estimated ship dates aren't really acurate and change often. I'm very happy with my 7811 now with a T9900 in it. Props to the OP for sharing this deal.

MY TZSO temps are much much lower than all of you guys. I think the range is 40-60C at peak. I love the T9900 and the package and thermal paste it came with have done an outstanding job of keeping it cool and running great. I recommend being patient because the same thing happen to me. It was a hassle to wait but payed off in the end.
    I love my T9900.

If I understand your graphic correctly, that is the development roadmap, not the building schedule. So the T9900 was launched in Q2 this year.
I've put an order at sparepartswarehouse.com and according to them it is out of stock until the 23rd or 24th.
Anybody has more info about other places wher you could get the T9900

I want to be clear about this. The main reason that I feel this was a great deal is that it came with the thermal grease and the temperatures and chip have been outstanding since I installed it. It was really easy and I couldn't be happier with the performance I have seen out of my laptop.

You just have to be patient and or keep bugging hp about it to get the T9900. They still have them it just takes a bit of effort to get them to send you one.

the x9100 is now up for sale, hp still shipped me the t9900 and charged me.

I just canceled it from the HP, the asistant told me that it would be shipped out on Dec22; and they didn't have it between 16-22 dec.

As soon as I canceled, I bought it from sparepartswarehouse for 318+12shipping no tax. it is 60$ cheaper, in total, since there is no tax for NC.
I hope it comes by saturday.
