$2200 huh? ... how's the gas mileage?

just a thought

Ok.. and per the site: "!!Please Note Engineering Sample is just for Expert Engineer Testing, Evaluating purpose, not for Retail purpose !!
Please Make sure your platform support it X9100(For Intel Montevina Centrino2 GM45、PM45 North Bridge Chipset) , Before replacement it, Updating your BIOS to lastest version, Thanks very much^^"
therefore they are ES chips..not retail. And there are only 4. And they, as it says, are not meant for retail sale. Which, Ali is attempting to be a retail reseller. So.. your point is? Cause ali said he'd deliver in hundreds..not fours. -
somebody here need to revisit his reading skills,
btw i kinda like es cpus, works perfectly for me.
-
Oh, also I'll pay tax on the 7811 since it is only availbale via bestbuy. I don't loose money when I am selling computers. Yes, you are right, I don't make alot too.
-
well... it's on sale as of right now for 1249.99 + tax = 1346.86 (california)
x9100 for around 450.00
a matching hd for raid about 70 to 80 bucks.
or
2 7200 rpm 160 gig drives about 160.00
yep, better wait for that sale to end....lol -
If he is putting ES CPUs in them and testing them for a decent amount of time i doubt theres really a problem . If he offers any type of warranty on the system or not is another thing. you no longer have the original CPU to put back in there incase of an issue. Also consider the fact he has the factory CPU which he can now resell and all the sudden hes making some decent coin on this whole endeavor.
Ill be snagging one of the ES x9100s sooner or later. i have been eyeballing them for abit im just not totally convinced ill see much of a speed gain in the games i play which are more GPU then CPU but i still want one.
-
yeah, warranty is pretty much out the window at this point.
no cpu/no hdd -
Actually,
I have seen people who upgraded the cpu themselves use thw warranty repair with no problems. Sicne there is no seal to break or anything that says "You can not replace the CPU" the warranty is valid. Onl thing is Gateway would not provide service to the CPU and the HDD. Monitor, GPU, Mobo, dvd drive etc are all under warranty. But again you are free to ignore this too. I can wait for amonth or so to sell all of these where I beileve the iternational buyers will take all of these in less than 2 weeks. -
-
I also vouch for the ES CPUs. Mine works excellent and TBH, I have yet to find anyone who has had a problem. As long as he isn't selling them as retail, I see nothing wrong with it.
-
This is actually the first laptop in a long time i didnt open right away and start tinkering with ie AS5 or just taking apart cause i felt like it
.
My 6860 on the other hand i was in and out of her quite abit and when all was said and done she was a changed lady.
-
I'll test every single computer prior to shipping so no worries. -
Just got my new one today. haven't really palyed with it much, cuz doing home work on it. Everything seems to be normal. little ghosting on a left side though. Cant complain its new
hope it works fine. I saw batch number on this is 26000+ I visited two bestbuy because first one turned down on me. (argh) the first one had gray batch sticker and one that I got had purple sticker, if that helps. BIOS gave me an option for raid as soon as I dropped another hard drive in it. so far so good. anybody own NZXT cryo LX cooler? I heard you could change the fan direction to pump air upwards.
-
-
-
ok, i decided to go ahead an put my original OS on this raid volume and everything is back to normal. no bsod and system is working cool.
-
Boo no bios still
. i probably should have exchanged mine the other day when i still had time but my machine was perfect in every way aside from the old bios and didnt want to give that up just for a new bios :/
-
Or did you use the copy you made of your original HD and OS? -
-
What did you use to copy/clone?
-
-
-
-
sure. it's exactly what i did.
edit: and i just crashed it with the write caching on the disk & enable advanced performance options checked....*LOL* guess i wont be doing that any more. -
exactly what i did.
and right now i was doing something and the system crashed due to me. i went to reboot and....bsod....hahahaha, i corrupted the os
edit: say E, you still selling your 9100? and will an x9100 run in a 6860?
edit: never mind...chkdsk fixed it. in otherwards...the information didn't have a chance to save to hard drive before i blue screen it. -
Hey guys. So after a lot of research, I've found that the following will be best for my Raid Array:
2 partitions -
1st) OS partition, 4kb cluster size, 16kb striping size
2nd) Game/Media partition, 32kb cluster size, 128kb striping size
Anyone knowledgeable of this stuff agree/disagree? -
-
As per Dookster Wisdom:
If you go into XP disk defragmenter and click on Analyze for your array, it should return a value of the average file size.
Take this number, and divide it by 2 x # of harddrives in the array, then round DOWN to the nearest available stripe size you can choose.
Let's assume that the average file size on your harddrive is 512Kb.
Divide that by a factor of the above calculated number. In my case, I have 4 harddrives in my array, so I would choose 8.
So, 512Kb divided by 8 = 64K (the optimal stripe size for my average files).
Let's say you had 2 harddrives in the array, then using the above formula, you would choose 128K stripe size.
This is contingent on whether you are just storing data and seldom using it or are actively using the data. If just storing Data, then put the operating system on it's own harddrive, not on the array. OS=small stripe size, data=big stripe size in your case."
Thanks Dook.
I am perplexed as to how to run XP Defrag in Vista
Possibly this command line: defrag c: -a -v
Found here: http://keznews.com/3487_How_to_Perform_a_Full_Manual_Defrag_of_Your_HDD_under_Vista
This old XP info is what I'm looking for in Vista.
Edit:
Here is the defrag info in Vista with above syntax but you have to read fast because the window shuts down fast.

seems we have our first 2 3dmark06 scores for the 9800m series gpu...

Looks like GTX?

the backup bios mistagrill gave us, in what way does it differ from a normal bios file, and is it possible if not to fake it so it looks like a real one, to install it?
-
(speculation of course) if you don't have a compatible original to start with, then the back up doesn't work right. it "seems" to take off on the the bios file you use to initiate your backing up of your bios file. i was hoping this was not the case and that "maybe" a different version of winphlash would do the trick, but he is also under 64 bit and has to keep uninstalling and reinstalling the OS to attempt to make new backup copies. we couldn't get dos base backup to take and 64 bit seems to have some sort of issue.
and basically, we are trying to fake the bios into thinking that it is using an original file, but i guess it knows something is up..*LOL* -

Nice avie Syn.. but I think we should all voluntarily be shackled by RAID!
-

So I'm past my 14 day exchange mark but I called a Best Buy store and explained how the 7811 manual says it can Raid but the early batches can't, and now the new batches can and so I should be able to exchange, blah blah. They said only corporate could authorize it. So I called corporate, explained again to the nicest woman ever, and she called the Best Buy store and then took me off hold again and said that the manager would make an exception.
Basically, Best Buy is great because if you talk to Geek Squad, they feel your pain and let you make an exchange. And if you don't talk to geek squad, but instead flood a normal employee with technical jargon that they will never understand, they're forced by default to allow the exchange (this is what I did).
On my way in to exchange now, I'll make sure I get it from batch 25000 or 26000 or above. -

Hey john...
-
Sadly Gateway/BB could have saved time, trouble and money by providing a BIOS flash.
On the other hand, maybe they feel people flashing their BIOS's would cause more trouble.
More likely ... they are not thinking at all. -
a side note...
(personal preference) i would stick that recovery partition on your raid volume and shrink it down to about 8 gig.(if concerned about space) it has the dvd utilites on it for fixing or repairing your os when it wont boot up. you also get to examine your drive without looking for the dreaded os dvd. and if you we're even smarter (found this out the hard way of course)... you would load the os dvd on there as well...in case you need to reinstall windows. always faster from a hard drive than a dvd. you can also put your own image in there and restore it if your super tech savvy.(which of course i didn't..at least not yet. my base install is like 40 gigs.
. it needs some slimming down.) plus it has "most of your 32/64 bit drivers" & "a few useful programs" as well.
just a suggestion and not a "have to" by far. -
-
And on a less silly note:
This is a very good idea! -
-
ah, ok dook...thought i missed a post in one of our many threads..lol so..hey back at cha.
mistagill: yeah, it says i need to spread the rep around. -

I know this is annoying (RAID on 7811FX)
