No one has done it yet. Are you sure you've really read post by post from page 28? Because if you have, you should know that we haven't found a way to reflash as of yet. There is no one "set infalliable way" because there is no way at all yet.... Regardless, no one with the new bios has had their laptop long enough to be able to see a stability difference between the new bios and old, and that's only assuming that they've even had the old 7811. You're asking questions that can't be answered yet.
The risk is a matter of opinion. It might not mean much to you, but maybe to other people we're willing to take whatever risk to get what we want. Either way, maybe we will create a step by step once we actually find a way to do the reflashing. But for now, hold your horses.

Just don't come back with 9C.09.00 -
john, is it normal for my computer to..well, I don't wanna say stutter. But it seems like it's a little bit choppy when I maximize and minimize windows.. And it's just not as fluid as it was without RAID. could it be the cause?
EDIT: I think I solved the issue..vista was set to basic, and so when it was opening and minimizing it wasn't fluid. Turned on Aero and everything seems cake now. By the way.. I need a faster cpu.
-
better than x9100? why and how?
-
Anyhow, maybe one day when I can OC this computer, it will be ;P
-
well...someone has your mother board all opened up for display...just get the pll code off of it and i think you might be in business...

Hey guys..I'm not recommending this..however I am posting the link. I ran across this while trying to find the bcp dmi block resolution.. This seems like a usb boot method, for people useing 64bit vista, and trying to flash phoenix for 32 bit.. http://occamsmonkey.spaces.live.com/Blog/cns!9531541C7AFAD925!322.entry
Seems like it may be beneficial to someone who is experimental. -
Good find now all we need is a working bios and in the meantime /hell freezes over.
-
I guess, I have the new record now. I have a x9000 undervolted to 1.0625. Stable and warm.

woooohooooo!
say e, time for ya to get back at it buddy! -
wow awsome score man and nice to see the x9000 working in our machines . What did the x9 set you back and where did you pick it up from ? i need a new CPU
-
So I've been following this thread and I'm glad Gateway has put in RAID bios support with batch 25000. That was the biggest thing holding me back from buying this laptop. I went down to Best Buy today just to see if they have the new ones in yet and it seems they just got 7811FXs from batch 26000. 26000? Has gateway changed something else now as well? Has anyone bought a 7811FX from batch 26000 yet? And if so, is there anything else that's different from batch 25000?
-
Since I am going to sell the system, I prepfer not to disclose the cost but I can say, it is much faster now. The only problem is you can undervolt the P8400 to 0.9V where X9000 can get only down to 1.0625.
-
-
at least that's what intel reports. but if you drop screen brightness to one level lower than normal. this will compensate for the not being able to undervolt lower that 1.0 volt. (battery life only) (speculation of course) -
Hey Ali, nice score. How about an ORB link? I'd like to see where your system stands.
-
Orthos gives me fatal error after 4 minutes if I go 1.05V but at 1.0625 I ran it for 45 minutes and no errors. So I'll keep the 10.625. I reran the 3DMark with the same settings and I got 10615 now but I realized a big slowdown at the sea creature part. I guess, the GPU just locked it self down to stock settings but here is the link for the online score. It does not show much but still at least you can see the score, ram and cpu.
Here is a screenshot of this run.Attached Files:

Actually now that I have another 8 opf the new bios 7811s. I may try to install the x9000 on one of them and see if it will allow me to overclock it just like 6860 did. It will be interesting.
EDIT: Nope, it didn't allow me to overclock it at all. BIOS does not have the option. Sucks!!! -
Wow so does this mean that the new chipset is backwards compatible with last gen's cpus?
Cuz I just bought me a x7900
Heres hoping that the newer bios allow raid and overclocking and then I will buy one -
-
-
1: and when undervolting...your not setting all the multipliers to 1.0625 are you?
2: you should see 6x-15x=0-9. or in your case. 6x-14x=0-8
3: i could be wrong, but your test looks like it ran at 2400 and not the full 2800... or did it down clock to that afterwards? -
-
john.. that's easy. It's just a matter of enabling the option. If you examine the BIOS with phoenix you'll see the OC'ing goes up and it even says "Extreme Processors" or something.. All that entails is enabling the option under the advanced bios menu. Im not a pro..but I know there is a sandbox bios editor that allows emulation and testing without flashing. I just cant remember the name of the program. And while I say it's easy. I have no idea where to start. but, saying that it's easy may influence you to find it easy to accomplish. I'll see if I can find that BIOS page where the guy was modding for people.
-
-
LOL. I find it a bit humorous that so far, everyone I've asked, with these "record breaking" high 3DMark scores, suddenly have technical difficulties and can't supply an orb link verifying their claims.
-
here ya go dook, reporting for over clock score duty!!
http://service.futuremark.com/searc...0&hardwareshadows=-100&softwarefiltering=-100 im on this page a few times....
default and non default. -
This site has some good programs.. Modbin6 is for enabling BIOS options if you have the bios files. Check it out.

John-I said "everyone Ive asked" I've seen your online scores. I still consider you "the reference".
Oh and I'm not trying to start a war or anything(In fact, I'm actually hoping this is just coincodence as these high scores really show how the FX line shines)I was just stating, in a joking manner, what I have noticed. -
on another note...say dook. when i ran 128kb stripe and then ran my test (accurate/8mb)..it kept dipping every 5 seconds or so in performance. it had major drop spikes on hdtune 3.0. any clues?? all cache was enabled and and nothing was running. -
How soon after boot did you run the test? I've had the same thing happen and it was SuperFetch and/or Search Indexing running . I temp disabled both, reran the test, and had no spikes. Not sayin thats definitely the answer, but it was in my case.
-
i waited ten minutes, because i was out doing stuff. came back in and ran it a few times and was like..wth going on. i checked the superfetch and it wasn't doing anything spectacular at the time. it gave decent scores, but them spikes made me think it was stopping to site see.
-
Yea. When I had the spikes, it never skewed the test results, but it does certainly make you wonder.
-
-
I disabled superfetch a while back..it always had the HDDs spinning..very annoying. And Im not so worried about it trying to optimize for me. Im unpredicatble when it comes to usage! Go away Artificial intelligence! And just disabled search for good measure..this thing still "hangs" briefly since going RAId. Not all the time, but it does happen.
-
well i went back to 16kb and no longer see the spikes, but haven't tested a game yet.
-
-
just did a real world test of moving a 51 gig file... seemed to move about about 97MB (averaging 95MB- network transfer) my acronis disk image.
-
Ugh.. I just optimized my install.. I really don't want to re-install the whole raid array.. I cant just swap from 128 to 64 can I?
-
it aint easy nor fast with a laptop... depending on your senario.
-
I don't give a **** to the 3dmark, I just run it to test gaming stability of the computer I am selling and this one had a pretty good score so I wanted to post it to show
1. x9000 works with 7811
2. heat is still an issue
My highest multiplier was 14 ( I am saying was because it is already in its packafe waiting for shipment) and lowest was 6. highest mult. had 1.0625 and the lowest had 1.000.
Dook, you wouldn't trust me if I said world is round and probably you are right by doing it.
E-wrecked has the most pimped gateway in the world. Period!
Is everybody happy now?
Back to the subject:
If you guys figure out how to unlock the overclocking in these computers, I believe it will increase my margin an additional %20. Full support to you all. -
edit: and mine is. i have a bluray drive, bluetooth and an hd tv tuner..so there...*LMAO* -
John. I am not offended man. I mean look at my rep points (which is none). I don't give much and in return take alot from the these forums. I am just trying with the capacity and knowledge I have.
Your setup is pretty good too but your cpu is abit weak and cheap. -
guess i better get a new x9000, since this x9000 is old and cheap...lol -
john, I do admit..I admire your Gway. And honestly, you're the reason I got this one. back with the qosmio you mentioned the 6860 and then I ran across the 7811..and thank god. I wouldn't want that cheap-to-upgrade, high performance, non BSOD having, BIOS flashable, machine that looks just like mine. Not enough issues with that one to make it entertaining to tame.
And ali: about time someone gave my computer the sarcastic props it deserves! -
-
-
what is a good price? with or without chip? -
ofcourse with the ship. I am going to sell 7811s with x9100 and raid of either 2x200gb 7200rpm or 2x250gb 5400rpm. The price will be $2100 for 5400rpm and $2200 for 7200rpm. Probably you can get the same config for cheaper but I can offer you couple hundred off on any of these.
I know this is annoying (RAID on 7811FX)
