new update, look at my final post in this thread:

Best Buy finally showed me how awesome they are
-
I'll give that a try.. thanks john. +rep if it works!
-
but yes...
1.1. back up registry or reboot last known good configuration. -
it didnt work.. I mean, windows works fine.. I have 2 drives non-raid.. but bios wont allow me to select AHCI or IDE. I have to leave RAID selected in the BIOS otherwise blue screen errors at os boot. I tried reinstalling the matrix storage, it did fine.. Guess my BIOS just has to say RAID
-
time to check a few other spots....
C:\Windows\System32\drivers\IaStor.sys <--- yours should look like this. or
C:\Windows\System32\drivers64\IaStor.sys
check registry to see if you see this controller.
Intel(R) ICH8M "SOMETHING SOMETHING" SATA AHCI Controller
under ide ata/atapi controllers
edit: did you try booting in safe mode as well?
edit: and just how many places did you change the msahci setting in?
edit: use something like registry crawler 4.5. it will search a registry in like 10 seconds. they have a full working 30 day trial version.

ok..changed the one you had highlighted..even tho it wa salready 0. I had changed the other values in that folder to 0 also. set them back. My DEV Mgr, under storage controllers says "Intel blah blah SATA RAID Controller"..
-
ummmm, that was the example....it's like 10 to 15 places to change buddy....lol
the highlighted mark is to show what to look for at each change spot. -
ohhh.. I see. Well, Im just gonna let it roll for now. Doesnt seem to be causeing any problems.
I'll fix it later tho, and thanks for the how-to. It's a pain to find any good info on the net about it. I figured if i uninstalld the chipset driver it may fix it..but nope. The BIOS wont change back, dev mgr says raid controller.. but intel matrix manager program says non-raid sata. Heh. Go figure.
-
@E - I'm not sure why you care about this. My desktops all have AHCI enabled whether RAID or not.
-
Well..my concern is the BIOS is set to RAID. Vista Dev Mgr Says RAID controller, not AHCI. Vista Disk Management, and Intel Matrix software say non-RAID SATA/IDE.. If I go to BIOS and set it to IDE or AHCI, it blue screen errors and restarts before Windows ever boots. I just didn't know if the BIOS being set to RAID would affect my HDD performance, even though half od Vista says it's not RAID.. And maybe I'm a bit anal retentive like that sometimes.. I'd like it to not be set to RAID if possible. *shrugs* I guess it's not a big deal. But if ya figure out how to fix it, let me know. -
mista, do you remember your serial number from the 7811fx? Or maybe took a pic of it? Or something? Jakamo is exchanging his, and I'm trying to find out if I'm onto something. Did yours begin P2887, or P2888? Post reply here please:
http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=303560
Thanks
Oh, and if anyone else has the new BIOS..please post if your serial begins P2887 or P2888. -
Edit: ****... I cut the serial code part.. lol sorry -
yeah...it's going to be some sort of performance dip, plus i dont think native command que is going to work either or any of the other fancy little gimos they tie in with it. (speculation of course)

Great news! My gateway tech just called.. The 9c.08.00 bios is in my email inbox. I'll upload it and make it available for download in about ten minutes when I get home.
-

-
Whoooott you rock E.
-
who's counting the minutes.....lol.
-
now if only i could back up my current bios for the just incase this didnt work out like i planned .
-
edit: backing up the bios i mean. -
So it will backup my old bios john ? and if so where to .
-
awesome!!! Than we don't have to worry about getting an old bios.
-
Dizzam, fellas. I hate to see you are having so many issues with this machine, including RAID. I kinda look like a fool for recommending it with such high praise, but I swear on my mommas nipples it works great on my machine and a few other 68/171 series I have configured it on. This is just so weird.
-
Dook no problem, I'm pleased as punch with my 7811. I'd do it again in a heart beat. This RAID thing is a non issue for me. If I get it, just cream on my 7811 cake.
-
ok..just got home. Bout to upload the file.. Gonnna make a thread for download of the BIOS. Gimme a few minutes.
-
just kiddin. I love this labtop and keep recommending it, it's a nice laptop -

oh hell 2 the yeah!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
it comes with the territory..that's why they guys like us when gateway can't quite help. we are only trying to help find solutions and your doing a great job!
-
Ok who's first ... getting Megaupload to work is the hard part ... it hates Firefox.
Wow it's quite out there ... did everybody brick their laptops with the new BIOS? -
-
Nice BIOS, Syn.
Hope it doesn't go flat.. But, it is eerily quiet in here eh? This BIOS thing is dumb. Not even Gway can provide a proper BIOS, the 2nd time. I dunno if it wasnt compiled correctly, or if Im just dumb. But whatever. Hopefully it comes through tomorrow.
-
E - LOL, I'm just watchin' and kickin' the tires. Hope you get it. Thanks for all the work.
-
The BIOS is now funtional, got a reply from the company who created it. Please see other forum for details. ALSO, there are 2 new versions available on the FTP Site. v27 and v28. Good luck!
-
E - This is rediculous - I can't rep you for this. I think the forum server hates you!
So verbal love will have to do for the moment.
Good news and good work. +++++++++rep -
lol.. Thanks Syn
I know this is annoying (RAID on 7811FX)
