Buring it to memory now. 26000, 26000, 26000 .....![]()
Thanks, I will sit tight.

That would be great if it were true by friday E-wrecked (not holding breath for any solution but remaining hopeful) and thanks for all the hardwork you and johnk are putting into this issue, especially seeing one has the new version and does not need the bios and the other doesnt even own the 7811 but still gives a darn. -
Tried both. Tried three version of the phlash app with both. No go on any of them. Thanks for trying though.
-
and none of them bios files worked for me. none would restore to my system.
i also tried:
flashv73
ph1614
and still nothing.

is under construction.... -
Too bad it's not the support site.

Best Buy told me my only option to get my keyboard fixed is to send it in, even though the keyboard was broken when they gave it to me (the apostrophy key). On the good side, the Geek squad rep I went through owns a 7811, and he guaranteed me that it would be flashed to 9c.08.00 because he sent his own in to be flashed to the new bios.
Well, it will be 2 weeks until I see my baby again. I hope that the bios is released on friday like was posted, but hopefully it won't matter for me.
For now, I'm back to my inspiron 6000 40gbHDD with 512mb ram, 1.6ghz p4, and ati graphics card which lags in even warcraft 3. -
indication that the bios may be in with the changes. *LOL*
edit: seems i forgot the *LOL* on the end of this post. -
How do you figure?
-
English only please.
-
what are you two talking about? seriously?
it was more of a joke than anything. i thought you would see the humor in it but i guess not. -
You are going to need pictures for us slower/dimmer members.
-
ok, i went back up and fixed it...*LOL*
edit: no pictures yet -
say E: off topic
try loading video driver 177.35 and edit it for the 9800m gts card or 177.19 (i didn't try this one) they should give you your whql. i downloaded it from nvidia.
then run your 3d and vantage mark and see if this will allow you to post your scores. let me know later if it works out. i went back to 177.39 because it's whql certified by them, just not fm approved. -
We don't take kindly to off-topic posts 'round these here parts.
PS- I just ordered some oven-baked sandwiches from Dominos. -
I agree with Dook. there are too many off topic posts
PS- This thread is getting really long! I wonder why
-
I was being sarcastic. I am the king of off-topic. Although as of late, I've been attempting to attenuate the OT posts, but there are times I simply cannot help myself. Kinda like looking at high school cheerleaders..............
Ehm...carry on. -
Oh well... I was too. ok.. I'll stop.. too bored without my laptop right now.. please understand
-
LOL. Gotcha. I can totally understand that!
-
Hmm.. I dont know how to edit my .inf, but I know how to download one from ltv2go.
I suppose I could just add my dev and sysid to the inf eh? Or should i just download modded inf? 177.35, lemme look.
And am I doing something wrong when I search for 9800m GTS results on 3dmark? I can't find ANY for vantage or 06. -
some times it's just easier to throw stuff in a current topic than trying to hit about 20 topics. i know...bad john!. but sometimes it's just easier...lol
-
you want it from nvidia. that way the inf is still legit.
-
By the way, in Gateway's site update, they REMOVED the 94.28 bios update as an applicable update for the 7811's. It will not show up anymore when you choose drivers and downloads for the 7811.
Maybe they are listening.
EDIT: Nevermind, they simply let you choose your operating system before seeing the available drivers/downloads now. So if you still have a 64 bit operating system on your 7811, you will no longer see the bios update. But if you choose 32 bit operating system, it will be there.
So who was it that said bios has no correlation with 64/32 bit? Are you sure? -
i guess my joke from an earlier post...might start to fall through....*LOL*
-
'twas i, and yes. the flashing utility however, might depend on 32/64 bit coding, as seen earlier in this thread.
-
This Vista32 boot key seems easier than installing full Vista32 in order to flash. We may not be able to use Vista64 for flashing even if the BIOS is available. I see we are not the only people having trouble flashing with 64 ibt.

In response to an earlier post by john about imaging a raid array and restoring back. You're correct, I was initially set to IDE/compatibility. I kinda suspected that an image created in AHCI mode might work fine, but had no one to test the theory. Glad to know that works, as I have 2 Acronis system images ready if a disaster should occur.
-
If I wanted to backup my RAID 0 to a single hard drive..is that just as easy? Im bout to run acronis to give it a try. Im not liking this RAID thing. It may be the stripe size..but streaming video hiccups, my performance seems slightly degraded, and I'm just not happy.
-
Theoretically it should be.
And what stripe size are you running again? -
load your image on a hard drive.
convert to ahci under windows
reboot and set ahci.
then reboot again and let windows detect the new driver.
then re image it.
the short quick version -
128kb.. Im wanting to backup to HD, then use acronis to migrate back to non-raid.
-
I wonder what the deal is with the RAID problems? Both E and mista had the same complaints. This is not typical RAID experience.
Won't that be a kick after all the whining. We get RAID and then hate it. -
Ok.. Ive got 3 HDDs..one external. So, I make an image of the RAID array to that HDD via acronis.. then go ahci under windows while still on my RAID drives? Here's what I was thinking.. I do an image to the 3rd drive, cause windows sees this as one drive. I then swap drives, and re-image one of my RAID drives(I want it to be new primary) from the image on the original 3rd drive. Make sense?
EDIT: Gateways website is much nicer now. However, they're saying the 7811FX has bluetooth standard. *shrugs* Should we expect another BIOS update too?
http://www.gateway.com/programs/pseries/specs.php
EDIT 2: Syn, I should probably try a smaller stripe size..was thkining 64, but Im not interested. Too much hassle, not enough benefit for me personally. My scorpios are quite capable without going RAID.
-
Interesting. That's what I'm running. Are you using the latest Intel Matrix Storage Manager? I had a few weird issues until I upgraded to the latest and now it runs beautifully.
Definitely not. Those of us running RAID on our 68 series are generally very happy. I certainly hope it isn't, but this is shaping up to be yet another kick to the head of 78 owners. -
yea..downloaded off Intel's website. 7/20/2008 is date of driver. It doesnt really affect performance too much. But, when I go to multi-task and open windows, close windows, all that stuff.. windows(especially IE) will hang briefly. Just streamed a video earlier and it seemed like as it was temporairly writing the file to HDD is when it was skipping..every 128kb, if I were to guesstimate.
-
Yea, theres definitely something amiss there.
-
Ok.. Ive got 3 HDDs..one external. So, I make an image of the RAID array to that HDD via acronis..<---- yes
then go ahci under windows while still on my RAID drives?<----- no, you should technically be safe its in ahci mode already. that was for dooks experiment.
Here's what I was thinking.. I do an image to the 3rd drive, cause windows sees this as one drive.<------ correct
I then swap drives, and re-image one of my RAID drives(I want it to be new primary) from the image on the original 3rd drive. Make sense?<-----yes, but make sure you break the raid array else the drive will still be marked as part of a raid. (speculation of course) -
i ran a 128kb strip and had issues so i dropped it to 16kb stripe & 4kb/ntfs
-
Im just gonna image to external, move the external internal, boot from it..and then image that to the other internal. Then I have mirrors internally. I remove the one that was original image, and drop my scorpio back in. format it, and it is now my 2nd HDD again. Ya dig?
alright..killing RAID now. been fun, but maybe I need to do some more research before I continue. disable vista pagefile? disable performance enhancement in dev mgr? Add 4GB more RAM? Dunno..but i'll let yall know how it works out. -
image to external
break raid
image right back to drive number one. -
hold on there speed racer!!!! *LOL*
whatcha gonna do? -
If you are running everest... turn it off. I don't know in RAI,but I had lag spikes on one hard drive using everest for some reason... some kind of compatibility thing I guess.... Oh how jealous I am that u guys have that beautiful laptop when I am just drooling over my receipt
-
Ok, everyone is a comedian ... good one mistargill ... LOL
-
am I doing a good job making jokes? I've only lived in States for 5 years... to tell you the truth, I don't really get alot of American jokes. lol
Edit: Oh... Oh... Ok... I get it -

I've been given Gateway's super-secret number for "escalated problems" as they put it (lol):
1-877-285-6043
Operational 7AM to 7PM. Feel free to call in an keep pretending you're someone else asking about Raid on the 7811. I suggest using such words as "false advertising" and "legal suite"... it seems to get you talking to a higher-up much more quickly. -
yep, i have that number as well....
-
I called and they wanna charge me money to talk to some "*** lady". what is this? Anyways.. I hate trying to mirror via an external HDD. SLOW! Just got finished with the first mirror. Now I gotta mirror to an internal drive. Should go much faster. In the meantime, Ill call that 877 number again
-
true. im not big on that either..that's why i used the esata option to image. and would have done like you, but i just changed my raid stripe and imaged right back.
-
I'm sure with a bit of research I'll find the answer to this.. But I managed to do all the re-imageing..broke the raid array, deleted raid from the RAID Setup screen..no more volumes found. However, when I go to BIOS RAID is still enabled..and if I switch to AHCI it blue screen errors and immediately reboots right when windows begins to load the OS. However, if I change the settings back to RAID in BIOS, it boots right up..even though RAID is not being used. Im guessing I need to update something in Vista. But not sure what exactly..
-
try this...
WINDOWS VISTA 32
To resolve this issue, enable the AHCI driver in the registry before you change the SATA mode of the boot drive. To do this, follow these steps:
1. Exit all Windows-based programs.
2. Click Start, type regedit in the Start Search box, and then press ENTER.
3. If you receive the User Account Control dialog box, click Continue.
4. Locate and then click the following registry subkey:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\Msahci
5. In the right pane, right-click Start in the Name column, and then click Modify. Do this for all instances of Msahci which doesn't have the value set to 0.
6. In the Value data box, type 0, and then click OK.
7. On the File menu, click Exit to close Registry Editor.
I know this is annoying (RAID on 7811FX)
