Nope. I mean it's a Phoenix BIOS, etc., but very different menu items (and obviously no RAID).

Just a quick comment: 9c.08.00 is the 7812j stock bios. And well... you seem to have some japanese text in your pics OP. Not accusing you of lying about which model you have... but did you buy your laptop in Japan?
Would someone provide a step by step of how to flash it if it were dropped on these forums by the OP? -
This is my second laptop and my previous laptop had 9c.05.00 and my new one has 9c.08.00... oh.. this might be the raid bios...
-
this is possible. they seen they made a mistake so did a quick edit of the bios and the next batch got reflashed. but the ones already shipped we're doomed.
have you been able to check if you have the crisis bios recovery option mistargill? -
How do i check?
-
2ull battery
3:hold fn key
4:while holding fn, start holding esc
5: while holding both keys, push the power button. hold the fn+esc key for about 10 seconds then let go.
6:you computer screen will stay completely black, but the media lights and the numlock lights will stay on.
7: now. if you have your usb floppy drive plugged in, this thing will start to read the disk (crisis recovery disk) if you made one or even have a usb floppy drive.
but for this test, we are just checking to see if you have the mode. if it does this, then just turn the power off and power back on and everything will be back to normal. -
I'm ASSUMING that maybe the incoming shipments of the 7811 are updated? Im still in my 14 day window..and can go pick up a new one to find out. I know how to tell which shipments are from which batch.
but its a secret
Anyhow, I'm down with exchanging this one for a working model.. I'll check the local BBs tomorrow..and let ya know if I have any luck. And if mista is pulling a leg, I'm gonna choke a neck.
Ok..mista isn't pulling a leg. Here's the deal. The 7812jFX is using bios version 9c.08.00 as of Sept. 12th.. I can't confirm 7811fx being shippped with it yet.. However, here's the link to the bios reference. And if anyone looks back at mista's screen shots..it is all foreign languages. The time in the lower right corner, etc. Either he's japanese, living in japan.. or a huge rumor starter. Link to 7812 BIOS info: http://translate.google.com/transla...12jfx+9c.08.00&hl=en&rlz=1T4GWYE_enUS291US291 - Translated kinda, by google. -
And by the way.. jp.gateway.com is the site to search for driver..my issue is not speaking japanese. So, google can translate most, but not all. *shrugs* If anyone has luck decoding or translating it..let us know
-
lol.. nice for you to notice, but unfortunately I'm not japanese nor living there.
I can tell you this much, because I don't really like to talk about so much about my self online. I am south Korean
anyway, I actually swapped my old one (september 2nd) and to new one yesterdya, but it arrived at best buy last wednsday or so... -
i couldn't find the bios stuff though -
So is there some reason we can not use the 9c.08.00 BIOS? I'm sure we can persuade Mistargill to humbly back up his bios then upload it somewhere.
-
yes, i was wondering about all that, but no one seems to know for sure that they can flash it or am i missing something???
and his says 7811fx (speculation of course) and not the japan model and it also shows the bios date as being 7-29-08
what do your bios dates show? -
I checked the japanese website. they dont even have the support page for 7812j so... I couldnt find the raw bios. It was easier for me cuz google translate does better job on Japanese to Korean rather than Japanese to -English
-
Do i have to install vista 32bit? I rather not go through formatting again, I reformatted 3times already
-
and i didn't find support for the 7811fxj either -
yo, i know who can get the job done about this bios thing...yo e-wrecked
did you get a chance to test the bios recovery option yet? -
How do I back up my bios? so I can give it to people i guess...
only way I know is Winphlash and its for vista 32 only... -
john.. dont try and put me together. But, yes..I will be a test dummy.
-
Ok..heres the real deal. The BIOS that he is speaking of.. the 9c.08.00, it is from the 7812 model.. Let's make this simple. mista, you downloaded the new bios..and if not, how do you have a copy of 9c.05.00?
-
Earlier you mentioned flashing back to the original BIOS.. where did you download your *new* BIOS?
-
John are you just wanting to check if the recover procedure can be done in case the flash goes bad? Or are you suggesting we use the recovery method to flash?
Also can someone give Mistargill the dos bios flash program or link so he can back up a copy? -
-
i just tried to flash with winphlash 1.6.6.7 and got the bsod -
Im not intending to flash anything until mr. manilla gorilla comes clean. The BIOS is for the japanese 7812..and while his cpu-x says 7811, Id like to find out how he ended up with this BIOS. I'll check into it tomorrow, but not makin a paperweight tonight. *scratches flap of skin where balls should be*
-
-
too funny!
-
edit: that's why i have a usb floppy! -
from my research..most experienced BIOS modders dislike winphlash..but being as I'm an amatuer when it comes to bios edits and flashes.. I say whatever. Kinda like windows vs x-win.. Windows is easier, x-win is more stable.
Anyhow. back to the subject. I'm chattin with a gateway rep..gonna see if i cant "con" my way into some info.
-
I think mistargill is being straight but I'm definitely back in the queue. -
Why do gateway online techs always refer you to someone else? And when you mention BIOS they attempt to attack you, and question your intentions. Until you check them, that is.
Anyways..this new bios is definately meant for the 7812..give it a couple days and it will be the hype around the forums and supported on the US 7811
-
I think I'll wait on ordering those drives ... just in case.
-
I downloaded his screenshots and checked the CPU-Z part for discrepancies in pixelation, and didn't find any. That doesn't say much though. -
on a side note..the lady I talked to at gateway a month ago told me 10-15th.. guess she wasn't jerkin my chain after all.
-
-
-
Well.. I see the gateway techs online aren't the brightest. Just a quick log post.. and by the way, he disconnected me right after the last comment..
15 Sep 2008 11:36:14 PM Ray_GWER8168 says: The BIOs update from the support site for the model of your computer is the only BIOS update available for Intel® PM45 Express Chipset .
15 Sep 2008 11:36:41 PM eirikur gunnarsson says: which one is that?
15 Sep 2008 11:36:49 PM Ray_GWER8168 says: The one you downloaded
15 Sep 2008 11:38:37 PM eirikur gunnarsson says: 94.28? It was released the end of 07..before the PM45. that's likely why im having issues.
15 Sep 2008 11:39:52 PM eirikur gunnarsson says: let me correct myself..it was coded in 07.. released again in september 08.. http://support.gateway.com/support/...dzilla BIOS Update Version 94.28&uid=20855932
15 Sep 2008 11:40:28 PM eirikur gunnarsson says: is this the same one you refer to?
15 Sep 2008 11:40:42 PM Ray_GWER8168 says: yes
15 Sep 2008 11:42:09 PM eirikur gunnarsson says: the 32bit version?
15 Sep 2008 11:43:29 PM Ray_GWER8168 says: It's compatible for 64-bit , YOu are not updating your computer with BIOS 32 bit version, right?
15 Sep 2008 11:44:55 PM eirikur gunnarsson says: Actually, the only time it would matter is if you were running from windows.. And this one contains 16bit,
15 Sep 2008 11:46:27 PM eirikur gunnarsson says: And you dont install via windows.. My point being, the BIOS was originally released well before montevina went public.. As a matter of fact, I believe its the original 6831FX bios. Does the BIOS and chipset compatibility not matter?
15 Sep 2008 11:47:26 PM eirikur gunnarsson says: And obviously 64 or 32 bit doesnt matter if boot flashing. But.. why would my original BIOS have an update that is 6 months older, and doesnt support my chipset?
15 Sep 2008 11:48:00 PM eirikur gunnarsson says: does 9d.05.00 suppport pm45?
15 Sep 2008 11:48:47 PM Ray_GWER8168 says: We don't have any information regarding that matter, There is no update yet for Pm45 chipset
15 Sep 2008 11:50:06 PM eirikur gunnarsson says: Umm.. Ok..so the update you just told me applied, does not apply?
15 Sep 2008 11:53:29 PM Ray_GWER8168 says: Gateway post the compatible update for your computer, however Gatewaydo not recommend to update the BIOS since it may damage or brick your upon installing the BIOS update,
15 Sep 2008 11:55:08 PM eirikur gunnarsson says: You just said there is no compatible update for the pm45 chipset.
15 Sep 2008 11:55:31 PM eirikur gunnarsson says: Regarding the BIOS.
---and this is where he hung up on me -
by the way..a jumper on a hard drive is used to select; Master, slave, or cable select. They aren't used often nowadays. -
I think you assumed my tone to be pissy, it wasn't, just pointing out that you shouldn't take it upon yourself to answer a question so abruptly (especially one I didn't even ask) when you're simply assuming the answer. It could be misleading to people who read it. The simplicity of Occam's Razor (pun intended) becomes a bit more complicated when there are a few different simple answers to choose from. Regardless, Occam's Razor itself is an assumption, not a resolution.
Thanks for the jumper info. Just to clarify, is he wrong in saying that the jumper regulates the difference between the HDD being SATAII capable or incapable? -
Well, if you're looking to be philosophical..probably not. If you want my opinion, yes..he's wrong. The HDD itself is SATA2, meaning it transfers @ up to 3.0 gb/s. Has nothing to do with the jumper, in my opinion. I am still smelling some BS here.. but as I said before, I'll just go to BB tomorrow and do some investigating
-
Some say there is no appreciable difference in speed and the increased results seen in benchmarking is only reading the "interface." This makes no sense to my little pea brain. When I change a drive from 150 to 300 and the HDTune numbers are higher ... I think it is faster but have no real test proof other than benchmark results. -
Alright Detective Wrecked, good luck at BB let us know how it turns up.
@OP, could you please post your Bios to the boards and explain why you have the old bios on your computer anyway? Thanks a bunch -
LOL, I love you E-Wrecked
Let us know if you find anything out at BB, I am willing to buy another laptop on my BB card if needed to see if there is a new bios out there.
-
Ok.. here is some more pictures...
I will definetly upload the bios for you guys.. If!!! you guys can find a way of doing it without installing vista 32bit... I am tired of this.
If there is no way other than that. than you guys have to wait. gotta goto school.
just to let you huys know. my bios came with this way. did not flash it.Attached Files:

Lol I am browsing this thread because I am interested in getting rid of my NX860 in favor of this new FX. What amuses me the most is that some of you seem just intent on proving that mistargill is trying to troll when he is doing a lot to help you guys. If I was him Id just say FO and be done with it.
Also SATA2 hard drives can be made to run in SATA1 in compatibility mode. So yeah you can switch a jumper on a drive and it will "magically" run at half the speed (theoretical). Most notebook HDDs have been SATA1 so there was no need for it but it is very common on desktop SATA2 drives and I assume newer notebook drives. -
I am only doing this because I have gotten alot of useful information my self in this forum. I was kinda furious that people were accusing me of lies. -
now if you can upload the bios so i can have a look at it, we might be able to get somewhere
I know this is annoying (RAID on 7811FX)
