John: I don't think he knows how to pull the bios.
-
only way I know how is in vista 32bit or windows xp...
I guess I have to reinstall OS 2more times to do this
+sigh+ -
You're awesome Mistargill. RAID 0 would be fantastic on my computer. I've got two 200GB 7400rpm.
-
back with vista 32bit.. backing up my bios with winphlash
-
Sweet deal sir. I'll be sure to include you in my write up when I go to make on that has all the hacks for the 7811. Nice work.
-
-
So again thanks for your hard work and help on this; there's NO WAY I would reformat & reinstall 2 times just to get people a copy of the BIOS, your efforts are much appreciated...
Just as an aside it would make sense to me if new machines are coming with the new BIOS that Gateway will eventually post it, probably sooner rather than later. -
-
Here is the backup... hope this is it. im hoping I dont have to do this agian
winphlash and bios back up is all i did... funny thing is I had to have another bios a side to work -
-
now that could be a problem.... what bios did you use as the starting one??
and where is it? i dont see a link??? -
I used the one from gate way 94.2X or something... oh my.. thats a problme isnt it?
-
can you suggest me what to do
before I either switch back to vista 64 or goto school -
-
ok... here it is
can I goback to vista 64 now?
http://rapidshare.de/files/40487936/bios.bak.html -
Not like this is the first time I've had this problem..but I can't open that BIOS with phoenix editor..errors me with invalid .rom length. Maybe I did something wrong? Renamed to .wph and .rom, and neither allow me to open it. *shrugs* POS
Oh..and So I went to BB..it seems like the comp I picked up is from a recent delivery, however it still has the 9c.05.00 BIOS. mista, you have your gateway box available?
If so..could you get me a lil information.. take a photo of the tag that is on the front..should be a sticky shipping label that tells about the batch, etc. Also, if you look at the cardboard box that your charger and such came in.. what is the info on the white label on the outside flap? Any help would be appreciated.
Called gateway.. they're still researching my inquiry from a couple weeks ago..and the guy put in feedback to the webmaster to look into removing the 94.28 from the supported bios list of the 7811. Guess we just gotta sit tight.
EDIT: Gateway must be updating their driver support site..it says 20 available, but only shows the bios and the 2 video drivers..all others have disappeared. Maybe this is a sign that the new, appropriate BIOS will be listed! Dont get your hopes up. -
-
going back to reinstalling vista 64
sigh.... -

(Takeoff from R. Kipling's epic poem Gunga Din; Charlie Brown is from the carton strip Peanuts) -
mista, you're being a huge assistance..and I commend you for being the work horse that you are..
Thanks for everything +rep
-
Yes thank you for the hard work mista + repped as well.
-
Anybody tried renaming the file *.ISO and burning it to CD per Gateway's instructions? Does it qualify as an "image" file?
-
ok...i was afraid of this...
since the bios is a backup, you can only reflash it back by doing a bios recovery option. your not allowed to look at it.
edit: so you would rename it bios.wph. make a crisis backup disk and add the autoexec.bat file to the disk. with the automated commands in it. -
How much trouble would that be for you to do Johnkss ?
. /cough.
-
-
-
John - I just confirmed that the 7811 does have this feature. You threw me for a loop because you never mentioned plugging back in the AC adapter after you take the battery out so it wasn't working at firstThe multimedia lights stay on and the laptop does not boot just as you said.
-
Hello im back safely with raid 0 vista 64bit... I see that this bios backup is not successful.. I'm sorry
John. this bios seems to have the recovery mode as well. fn+esc made a beep and black screen
*Edit*
Here are some pictures that has been requestedAttached Files:

i just changed it right now. thanks!
yes, the bios is successful for a bios recovery option. for two reasons.
1: i know the backup bios stuff works because i did it the same way and my bios now reads 94.29 like it should. with factory bios reinstalled
2: we need this file to do the recovery process. the process reads the file as it is, then writes the code. we can't edit this one, but it can be reflashed to others. -

using floppy drive
rule number one! offload this stuff to another computer or drive just in case!
ftp.say-it-loud.com
username=sil
password=silsil
download both folders
1: run wincris.exe to create your floppy disk
2: omitted
3: boot recovery mode, with floppy disk in.
4: computer will read code from floppy disk autoexec.bat file and reprogram bios with backed up bios code.
5: here is the crucial part.. DO NOTHING! let the computer reboot and stop at the flash bios screen. you'll know when you see it. then take the floppy out and power off and on again and hit f2 to get to the bios. you should now see the new code.
and on another note.... i tried to flash a 6860fx with a 7811fx bios and nothing happend. you can't do it. it wont work. screen just goes blank and sits there for hours. so dont go thinking your gonna flash back like that...*LOL* yeah....i know.... but i had to see so i could report back that...it's a big NO!. -
What 2 folders?
Are we to assume BIOS.WPH is the 08 bios?
If you would actually include the boot recovery key sequence, this would be one heck of a post.
Also I see you have WinRar from CoRe (is this some new software provider)? -
Any chance of doing this with a USB flash drive?
-
-
Woot he just fixed the folders
-
-
Im hoping this is possible with a pen drive as my USB floppy croaked on me a while back . Also when trying to download these files i was not able to just grab the whole directory for some reason. i would have to grab each file from the folders individually? or im just stupid, probably the latter of the two. When i grab the whole directory and click save as it comes up as Part file and couldnt get a grasp on what that was .
-
use windows explorer and not your web browser.
-
Also shows the 2 folders using ftp client now also (filezilla)
-
Picked up a copy of your birth certificate and check register while there. Hope that's OK. -
oh yeah....forgot about all that stuff...lol
-
would the crisdisk bios.wph happen to be the gateway 94.29.00?
-
Just waiting for someone to report a successful flash
Have my USB drive bootable and ready to go.
-
-
no, it's the 7811 bios.
that's why i took out line 2 up top. -
the wincrisis will create it with the 7811 bios file
the other folder is a back up in case some how you start mixing files up. who knows. always better to be safe than sorry. -
Just to be sure
bios.wph in the CRISDISK folder is the .08 BIOS?
7811bios.wph in the floppy disk folder is the .05 (original) bios?
Or
7811bios.wph in the floppy disk folder is the .08 BIOS?
bios.wph in the CRISDISK folder is the (????????????)
I'm all corn-fused.
I've never done this fancy BIOS recovery procedure before. -
"The bios image may be corrupt (checksum failure)" when using the 7811BIOS file.
I know this is annoying (RAID on 7811FX)
