Thats cool. This could be the next model coming up in USA i think. But the chassis looks much better with the Gateway original colors etc.

    V. expensive, wonder how much it will cost in the US.

    Whoa!

    At $1199, too.

    Not bad for a P8700.

Finally, I get to see the elusive beast :D And that one actually has the new design, and yay! It is pretty similar to the 7813 :D

I'm guessing they "found" more of them. Or just reusing the ones from other countries.

Their isnt much difference in design, a new graphic on the shell is all. I think it was too soon for the FX to move to quad core. Unless they allow overclocking. For one thing it is a budget gaming machine, which as of now quad isnt going to benefit 80% of the time. Also its clocked way to slow and costs alot more than a duo which would perform better in gaming anyway. I hope they keep the price of these things down for their own sake. If they push $1800 they will be batteling some Asus and MSI competition which both allow Proc o.c.

Is the P-7809u likely to become available at Best Buy? I'm wondering because I'd like to get my hands on the Windows 7 upgrade that Best Buy is giving to all computer purchases. I don't think J&R is doing the same thing.

I bought a 7809u a couple days ago. They said they give the upgrade through Gateway. My computer is supposed to arrive next week.

Anyone know the Vista score on the 7809?

When I had my 7805, the overall score was a 5.2 because of the stock processor. With the processor in the 7809 being a faster model, I would guess a overall score of 5.4ish???

So I am now making this post from my brand new 7809u!

First of all, I wanna say it's beautiful! And thanks for all the guys here that have helped me decide on what we should get.

Lastly, as promised... I have the Vista score for the 7809u... it's a 5.4. Processor being the lowest, at 5.4... with the harddrive being a 5.6, and everything else a 5.9.

So it's pretty much a beast. If you guys have any questions, just ask and I will help any way that I can!

from the specs on Gateway's site, i'm not seeing a huge difference between this one and the 7805u...everything they give you is upgradeable already on the 7805u...unless i'm missing something.

As for battery life, normal playing around on the internet is about 2:30 to 3 hours. I think that is with the screen brightness turned down. A full charge estimates I will get 4 hours, but that's a bit optimistic.

As for benchmarks... I have never used benchmarking software... but I am loading L4D as I type, but I haven't had a chance to play with it's power yet. How do you guys want me to benchmark it?

I can tell you I got this mainly for my graphic design classes, and I do believe that it runs everything I need it to with ease. It's been great to have so far. Plus, I get to upgrade to Windows 7 through Gateway too.

played L4D last night a bit, and it didn't studder a bit. Prolly ran around 25 to 30 fps, (That's only a guess, I dunno how to get the fps to show on that game) and that's with every setting turned up at high as it could go. The recommended settings threw everything at full graphic potential. So as for me, this computer is a definite winner.

Sure beats a 2,000 dollar Apple that my school recommended for Graphic Design. Ha, what a joke.

Sounds cool, but I still don't see the difference between the 7805 and 7809? Slower but larger HD, 900 screen, and slightly faster processor?

You pretty much nailed it. But the thing is... the processor was the only downside to this computer when it was the 7805u. It held it back. But now, with the upgraded processor and huge HDD, it's pretty much amazing.

The slower but bigger HDD is fine, because there is an extra drive bay in it, where you can put anything drive you want in it. So if you want a faster HDD, then you can buy one easily.

I got it because it was a welcome boost over the 7805u for a decent price. Plus, I couldn't wait any longer because I need this for class next semester. lol

but you don't really get any speed benefits from a quad core cpu at 2ghz do you? most apps will only recogzie 2 cores, let alone the fact that you wont be able to use them all at once while gaming (can you?)

In multithreaded Apps you will see a huge benefit, but no in dual threaded and single threaded apps you wont see any benefits over the fact that other things can use the "unused" cores to keep functioning at full speed with out bogging down your CPU.

But the coolest thing is getting a 79xx unit and dropping a QX9300 in that bad boy and see what you can do then ;) (wonder if you can OC that with the 3.0gHz limit :D )

o, yea i didnt think about that fact that other apps can run on the unused cores. wonder what takes care of keeping all those instructions in line.

and if youll spare me reading through 15 pages of messages, have they officially discontinued the 78xx series? is the 79xx the newness?

"Officially" the 7800s are still on Gateway's website and they don't show any 7900s.

However, it appears that what 7800's that may still be out there may be the last of them, and we may be seeing other 7900s introduced.

    That'd be my "unofficial" guess.
