All of the FX models have had Label Flash.
I've used it a few times (etches blue Discs thats are insanely hard to fine) and its pretty nice. Nothing amazing, but its a nice touch to have

in regards to fingerprint scanners, from what i've seen those are more trouble than they're worth (especially if you're on the 'sure i'll work on it' end of things)..unless you're working on some type of classified NASA spacecraft can't see a reason to use it....especially since Vista is harder to break into if you set a password for your login.
-
Wow, Dan from CNET got my recent email and posted it on their Front Page News column, here's the article he wrote - it even has my prior 7805u email (Antonio). Maybe a few of you guys will see your email in the article:

Oh, I'd like to slap Newegg in the face-
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834101166
Really? $1600...
That model is so old, what idiot would buy it?
I mean, I know the FX line is popular but the newer models trump newegg's model in specs and are cheaper!!! -
Haha, sweet! My email to him is listed first!
So hi everyone, I'm Logan. lol -
Kamin_Majere =][= Ordo Hereticus
Yay my name in print for the second time as a reference to a computer article
Its like i'm famous (in a very very small circle of people)
He really came through for us. I was starting to worry. -
When will more of the "new" 7807s become available??? Ive given up on Asus at this point.
OH and if I buy this from J&R does it come with the windows 7 free upgrade thats all over the place? -
Most likely a week or two, gotta give Gateway some breathing room... they just announced these laptops
!
-
I can't believe I'm with so many stars!
Glad they finally made an article
I can't believe Newegg pulled some of those out of nowhere
-
Yikes!
Adding "free shipping" is almost insulting, isn't it? -
They probably threw that price tag out there because it has a WUXGA display
So to understand Newegg, let me get this straight (but purely guessing)...
Nearly same specs as the 7807u ($1099) + WUXGA ($400) + Expedited Shipping ($100)= $1599 w/ [already added to the price] Free Shipping...
Alright Newegg, will you at least toss in the drugs you were taking when you popped that price (and laptop)
At least Gateway priced their latest laptops well, hopefully we will see them in stock and ready to buy soon.
I'm still a bit disappointed that Best Buy doesn't have one of these new models. I am crossing my finger that maybe the 7807u's [Still unannounced] "Select Retailers" is Best Buy (and not Newegg...) -
I went to a best buy with a friend to look at some HD TV's today, and when i asked about the Gateway FX's they said sometimes computers might be exclusives at certain stores and didn't see any news of up coming Gateway laptops....i can't wait a week or two for that , cause i know I'm gonna be out of luck and wont be able to get one before stock is gone.
-
Welcome to the site! Look down there where it says "Is there gonna be a new model to replace P-7805u?".
and NO. -

Welcome to the site.
Threads merged... i usually dont mine duplicate threads, but 3 on the same subject is pushing it.
As you were citizens of Gothem
-
Why not just upgrade the CPU on yours to a faster one?
$1099 for the 07u seems like a great price to me, though. -
I agree with johnwhotwo, the 7807u and 7809u are merely duplicates of each other along with the 7805u (you already own) but with just faster CPU's. The 7807u (which was brought back) and 7809u are for those who never was able to grab the 7805u. If you want to upgrade to the 7809u, just go on ebay and buy the P8700 and replace your 7805u's P8400, you'll save loads of money this way and you'll have the same specs as the 7809u then.
On ebay though for the P8700, the people selling them have the priced so jacked up, you are better off buying even better processors for less, outdoing the 7809's specs. -
Is Asus crazy, releasing a higher end "gaming" laptop that can't play games. That's unbelievable. I feel bad for all of those people that purchased it, but my heart is not bleeding too badly for them. When you buy something without seeing any reviews; "You lay your money down and you takes your chances". I just can't believe that Asus didn't discover any of these issues during testing(if they did any). All the more reason to wait for the next new GPU version of the FX wich will hopefully ship with Win7.
-
Gateway did the same stuff when release the first batch of 7811FX, a lot of lockup system while gaming , like mine
-
Yes but I'm sure enough owners of the 7811FX complained enough about to get Gateway's attention to fix it. The new Asus models though have complaints on forums and BB but not enough to Asus themselves to fix the problem right now...
Plus the new Asus die shortly after hitting 81-82 degrees on the graphics card, what kind of computer is that?
I'll stick to choosing the Gateway FX for now, at least they learned from their mistakes and are trying harder to create stable, highspec, affodable laptops. A few bad ones in there but mostly good, at least not ALL of them have the same problem like the new Asus laptops (exception goes to the Asus G51v though), which have the VERY same problem. -
Welcome to the thread, guys.
I am avoiding Asus's laptops like the plague. It's bad enough that I'd rather take a stable 9800 over a hot 260. At least the FX won't meltdown on me, like the G51's are. Too bad, I was excited about a laptop I could fall back onto.
At least I can grab an FX before school starts, hopefully. haha -
lol, Kamin_Majere, It wasn't me I swear... I mean promise
!
With the newest bad batch of Asus laptop's, should I go with the 7807u Kamin_Majere?
I was most likely going to get it but the Asus had me a bit interested until the horror stories came.
Would you get the 7807u if you didn't already have a FX laptop?
My only gripe is that I never changed out a laptop CPU before as this would be my first laptop. Maybe someone would be nice to post a link to a vid or tutorial >.> ... -
I'd go with it. There are some comparable ones on newegg, but the FX is just so shiny
-
Kamin_Majere =][= Ordo Hereticus
If i didnt already have my 6860 yeah i would buy a 7807. Its just the 7805 with a slightly different configuration for 200 less (good deal if you ask me)
As to the CPU upgrade. Its really easy. And when i say that i mean its probably as easy as swapping a desktop CPU.
Just pop the back cover, remove the heatsink, unlock the CPU, replace it with new CPU, apply thermal goop, reapply Heatsink, reattack back cover.
Its a 10 minute job (it took me 15 minutes because my wife made me a tomato sandwich in the middle of the work
)
-
Do you have a link of compatible CPU's for the 7805u FX, also would i have to reinstall everything onto my computer after installing the new CPU? I'm thinking about getting a refurb 7805u instead for $850 cause i just can't wait for it to restock(desktop is shot and unusable). Also if i buy my CPU could i bring it to a computer shop and have them swap it out for me. Thanks man!
-
Kamin_Majere =][= Ordo Hereticus
I dont have a link to all of them.
But the most common will be
p9600 / p9700 (for low power pretty good preformance)
t9600 / t9800 / t9900 (for best preformance but 35 watts)
x9100 (cheaper than t9900 but runns 44 watts so with out the ability to OC its not usually the best choice unles you just want the speed cheaper)
And no you dont have to reinstall. Your CPU is independent of your hard drive -
So different process require different amount of watts, or what does the watts do, would i need to change the power source if the CPU requires more watts?
Whats a good site to look for these processors. -
Yes, should my 7811 prematurly assume room temperature I would be forced to purchase a 7807 but I would miss my 1920 screen. Hopefully my 7811 will last until another $1000 +/- notebook is sporting a WUXGA.
-
Kamin_Majere =][= Ordo Hereticus
Watts are part of the electricity trinity (watts amps voltage) basically as an end user all you have to understand is the more watts a CPU uses the more heat it will produce and the less your battery will last.
These will not be HUGE jumps in temps, but they will be noticable (same goes in reverse for battery life)
And no you wont have to upgrade your power source (i think you mean power supply) Just install it and it will run fine. Though i will generally recommend Undervolting any CPU (espically the 35 and 44 watt ones -
Undervolting? Sorry if I'm annoying
I just ordered a refurb 7805u, think i'm gonna get the t9600, couldn't find the t9800 and t9900 and they probably would cost too much anyways. -
Kamin_Majere =][= Ordo Hereticus
Undervolting
http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=235824
Its about the best thing since the invention of the floppy disc
Its a really good way to shave alot of degrees off your CPU. I recommend it to almost everyone
And no you're not annoying. As long as you want to learn then i'm happy with that.
The t9600 is a great CPU. About all you need to any type of usage, and wont break the bank. I think you'll like it. -
Thanks for all your help.
-
Thanks for the walk through, sounds as easy as replacing a Desktop CPU (which I've done many times). It looks like I'll be grabbing the 7807u then, I still love the way the FX looks
!
(Only issue now is that the R & D team from Asus has now been notified about the new batch of laptops that are currently having issues and they said it will be resolved soon...) -
Kamin_Majere =][= Ordo Hereticus
No worries its why we're here
Bah... asus will resolve the issue of the 82 degree shut down, but at what cost. a CPU and 260GTX is still being cooled by a single fan. So if the laptop doesnt shut off it will eventually fry i feel. Most users are reporting the overheat happens pretty quickly so that means it still could get a great deal hotter before reaching max temp.
It might stabalize at 85 degrees, but it might stablize at 90+ and that is still entirely to hot in my opinion. All you would need is a few seconds of blocked air flow at that point to completely burn out your system. -
Well like I said, the Gateway FX must be tired because it's constantly running all the time in my mind (lame, I know). The Gateway FX laptops have been burning through my brain the first time I saw one and that want hasn't left either. Despite the specs of the Asus and if they resolve the issue, the single fan worries me still anyway. The Gateway FX 7807u is most likely going to end up in my house eventually no matter what
!
-
With this chassis the most the most they can do is to chnage the heatsink and make the pads better. I wish they could alter the inside to add a 2nd fan in there, but thats not very probable.
For now I'm also with the "new" FX laptop. -
Well it looks like the 7807u has found a home... too bad it's out of stock ALREADY!
http://gateway.links.channelintelligence.com/pages/cbl.asp?sSKU=P7807UFX&nRGID=1559
Same can be said of the 7809u, out of stock as well already...
http://gateway.links.channelintelligence.com/pages/cbl.asp?sSKU=P7809UFX&nRGID=1559
I really hope Best Buy tries to work a deal with Gateway to have a pick up and buy product (7807u or 7809u) like the 7805u. The nearest Fry's around me is about 110miles away
...
-
Maybe BB will get the 7812?
Either they didn't have a lot and they sold like hotcakes in Denmark, (sad attempt) or they just don't have many. Maybe they'll release completely different models at the end of summer. Gateway, plzzzzzzz
Now that Asus fixed the heat issue with the g71 at BB, I wonder how it'll compare.
Newegg has the 7807:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834101176
and open box 7801's for the same price as a 7807 -
I was at BB this past weekend and got to see one of these new Asis machines close up. It was running the store demo which I did not think required too much computing beef. But, coming out of the single vent in the back was air hot enough to melt thin plastic. My FX 6860 has never blown out air that hot no matter what game I was playing.
-
Anyone know if the Bios fix works for the Asus? I've read a couple reviews... but I am wondering if it's holding up?
Preliminary testing seems to be okay. But heat can burn up a computer first chance it gets. -
I think the update is working pretty good. All the reviews after it was released are positive, and don't mention heat.
btw why is the 7807 at newegg so much? it seems to be the same as the 7805 and 7801
-
Guys any idea where P-7807u will be available online? I am not able to find a single place. Are these laptops out there in the market? or Gateway is still in the process of shipping them to retailers?
Also can we directly buy laptops from Gateway itself?
quite a many questions, but please answer. Actually it is a bit urgent... -
No, you can no longer buy directly from Gateway, but the 7807 is at Newegg:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834101176 -
Negg like the rip people off when the item is in high demand and low stock. Just like for arcade sticks when street fighter came out.
-
Tigerdirect has the 7807 at even more of a ripoff than Newegg. http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/searchtools/item-Details.asp?EdpNo=4400128&sku=G180-17004&srkey=p7807
but they also have the 7805 back in stock.
http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/searchtools/item-Details.asp?EdpNo=4610279&sku=S445-170012&srkey=7805
maybe i can grab one of these for college when i get my check in the morning, i've been lurking around here for a month or so and maybe soon i'll have my own FX
-
I was interested in the 7807 because it has the fingerprint scanner...makes logging into sites a lot easier.
-
I'm not so sure the 07u has the fingerprint scanner built-in.
Can you provide a link that verifies this?
The Gateway website information, h e r e does not show/list it. -
I have a suspicion that we can't buy from Frys & JR because newegg and tigerdirect bought them all up. Does this violate monopoly laws or something?
I hope so because I'd love to report these bungholes to someone.
-
Ah jeez. I'm just going to wait until the new(er) ones are released >_>
-
Gateway tends to deal through "Select Dealers". Well BB was the select dealer for the P-7805u, in fact it was an exclusive. BB I am sure was really turned off. Look at all the refurbs out there now. The majority I am sure were reurns for the sceen resolution but all those returns hd to put a sour taste in BB's mouth and they probably did not order more.
This may have then become the demise of the 78xx series as it probably turned alot of other retailers off too. Ad to thi many people were looking to the newer 87xx's to be a cheap upgrade too quad core and this did not work out that way. -
7087u is in stock at J&R if you go to the site it might still be there. If you want you can tell them to e-mail you when they are in stock again like they did for me, but i already bout the 7805u so i thought i should let you all know.
Is there gonna be a new model to replace P-7805u?
