I know this is more of a notebook forum but I know you guys know your stuff so I thought I would tell you my issue in hopes that you would be able to solve it.

Issue: I have installed a new LG DVD Drive and have decided to use my older one as a backup. I have the new one set as the master and the old one set as the slave. However my computer won't recongize the old one, on top of that when I have it plugged in, my computer takes prob. 20 times longer to load up Vista. The BIOS is able to recongize the drive but windows can't. Can someone help me out with this problem?

did you uninstall the drive in device manager before switching it from master to slave?

Go into dev manager and remove all optical drive and reboot.

Also, where is it taking longer to boot up?

Well it is taking a long time where the green vista bar is moving right before Vista starts. It only does this while the other DVD drive is plugged in so it must have to do with that. I also did what you suggested and that didn't work. This is so strange.

It turns out the OEM Drive I had in my computer required it to be connected as the master and the other as the slave on the ribbion cable, switching the little things back and forth to slave, master or cable select didnt do anything so they are both on cable select, I dont see how moving it around changes anything since they are not plugged into anything.

Not sure what you are trying to say but I am glad you got it worked out.

Certainly, misconfigured drives will cause your issue

Okay so the ribbon that connects the mobo to the dvd drives has master and slave written on them. I can only get both of them to work if the OEM dvd drive that came with the computer is hooked up to the master and not the slave which is silly.

Yes, it is silly, but not unheard of. I have, on occasion, found drives that simply didn't get along with each other.
