That's the same spiel I got from the CS manager at my local BB.

To anyone who's worried about DRM:

The only game that's DRM free right now is Sins of a Solar Empire.

That's not true. Most games either have no, or reasonable DRM. Unfortunately a ton of "activation" DRM, which essentially turns you "purchase" into an extended rental.

I've lost count of the number of games I would have bought, but skipped because of "activation" in recent years. From the number of others I've heard of who are doing the same, I think there companies are really shooting themselves in the foot.

You know for orange box, you could just do what I do and register your keys with Steam. I've installed all the Orange box games like 3 different times on 3 computers via my steam account, never had a problem with any. Course you can't play online more than 1 acct.

Anyway, just got back from Bestbuy, refunded me $216 bucks and I got sins of the solor empire for free, they just gave me a 100% discount for the game since they couldn't do it on the same receipt.

From a FPS junky who owns both Crysis and CoD4 from there release, CoD4 is a better buy, but I am not saying Crysis is bad, but for me a good multiplayer is important, and Crysis lacks a good multiplayer.

As for the Orange Box and steam, there is no DRM as you speak of. Once you register the CDKEY to a steam account, you can download and play the game as many times as you want. I have been a steam member since its release, and have download HL2, CSS, TF2, DoD2, etc for over 10-15 times, and across 4 machines. Of course you can login one on machine at a given time.

Bestbuy made me go back to campus so I could buy it online in my cubicle and now I will have to fly before they close in 30 min lol ... just because the last copy of the game I wanted got bought by someone before I got there the 1st time.

I just hope they don't give me trouble for not waiting for the second email since if I wait for it I will never make it for store pickup.

I just drove to my local Best Buy...

$200 refunded to my card, and I got the free game... I grabbed Bioshock since I already have pretty much every other game they had to choose from.

The service rep said that she just re-rang the laptop as a new sale so I could get the game... :)

*before read this sorry for my bad English
:) i just came back from bestbuy

I bought this laptop on 18th so today was the last day of the 14day.
I went there and talk to a guy (part time guy i guess) and he told me to go to a casher to get price differences. And the casher scanned my recipt and gave $220 credit to my account. But i wanted to get a freegame which is included in Labor day sales package. She went back to asked supervisor(that's what she said) and came back with a bad news... She said that I can't get a free game because they can give me only price differences.. but I knew there are people who got a freegame based on NBR :) i couldn't just give up.
So i talked a guy in the Geek squad who helped me on buying laptop and expalined my situation. He wanted me to wait and went to somewhere and came with a box of new game( which is the same game in the flyer). I didn't want that game so i chose COD4(morden walfare). And the nice guy arranged everything for me, so I went to another casher and she put my old item on store credit and rang a new purchase with a free game :)

So I got $220($200+tax) back for the price differences and a free game (COD$). thank you guys :)

okay here is trick anyone trying to get pricematch should do, go to PC games section and pickup whatever game you are looking for. Go to customer service directly and show your old receipt and ask them to pricematch with the current deal and here is game you want along with it. The chance of getting PM as well as game this way are better.

Which is something I couldn't care less about, which is probably why I'm a lot more interested in Crysis :)

That's "activation" DRM, which is the nastiest form I'm aware of (so far...) You don't own that. You're dependent on a third party to be allowed to play it, which to me (and many others) is completely unacceptable.

There's a saying; You can reach Rome by asking. The smart will ask a ride, the other will ask for directions...

Ill leave it at that, Simply grab your game under 49.99 go to costumer support with flyer in hand. Ask the person at the counter to please do a price match and discount the game. Ask them to do it, not if they can do it, there's a big difference in the two.

Steam is a form of DRM, the rest of the games have a Copy protection. There's a big difference. DRM is a protection that contacts the server every so often in the case of steam every time you start steam, and gets the permits to play your game. Copy protection wont allow you to copy a game and will require the original to be present to play it.

So Age of Empires I,II,III Copy protection
any game under Steam, DRM. Sure its annoying but to me none of them matter, cracks take care of both.

I got 212 bucks back, and the orange box :) portals seems fun the rest i don't care for.

    ok I hate bestbuy.

I have gone to that stupid store 3 times already with money on hand to buy this laptop and have come out empty handed.

    1) I went there when this laptop launched and they could not find the thing and acted like I was crazy and made up a laptop model. When I got home I went to their site and it showed it was in-stock.

    2) I go there to buy the laptop today and get a game but someone bought the last copy of the game before me. They could not order 1 of the 98 that was in their warehouse they told me to go and buy it online if I wanted that game.

    3) I drove back to my work since it was closer than my apartment. Bought the laptop online and told them to ship the game home (had to pay $3 whatever). Waited 45 min like they told you and never received the 2nd email so I went to the store and asked for it. They picked it up and tell me there was a credit card fraud flag :\. I was like "no wai", I told them that I could call my CC company to fix this misunderstanding. They told me like don't bother we can't give it to you today (the box was in front of me) and to call 1-888-Bestbuy to clear up the issue. I call that number and an indian woman picks it up and keeps saying that there is nothing wrong and that they can't speed up my order. I never mentioned anything remotely close to speeding up my order, I was saying that there was an error message about credit fraud. She told me to wait 24 hours and call again ("no wai"). So I called my CC company and they told me that they had authorized the BB purchase long ago w/o an issue. At the end, they could not give me my laptop and probably all the people on customer service think I'm a criminal and looked me with funny eyes :\.

They really don't want me to buy this laptop, maybe this is a signal to buy a different laptop. I can't imagine the pain I would suffer if I get a lemon since I can't even buy one. They should refund me gas money I swear, I'm tired of driving there and leaving empty handed. At this rate I would just cancel it and buy something else :\.

Boy I was feeling swell having gotten my $210 refund (price match) in less than a minute at the counter, but I never even thought to ask for the free game! As Homer would say: DOH!

(Actually just pleased to get the refund. It turns a superb value into a basically insane bargain.) There were a bunch of college kids in there and I saw one guy leave with the 7811, another had a HP and I almost accosted him to ask "WHAT are you thinking?" when I realized maybe games aren't his thing...

Fun fun fun, nothing like money back!

No dice on getting them to accept the 12% off coupon. =/

But that was expected. Funny how Best Buy constantly says "we can't discount computers since we sell them practically at-cost," but when I bring a Best Buy 12% off coupon into a Circuit City two years ago to buy a dirt-cheap HP ***** box, they accept it and process it as a pricematch. >.<

Too bad CC doesn't carry the 7811.

this is for the website, the stores act in a very different way, you know the kiss arse factor? at any rate ppl should first hit the costumer service with game in hand and if that fails hit a manager not the other way around. Not to mention that the flyer says NOTHING about it been 2 days only or, only new purchases so you will be fine :). Unless some one before you went ahead and screwed you up asking; hey the website says you cant but would you give it to me any way? GG...

On another note, that sentences says prior purchase but the subject of the sentence is Games. I mean English is my second language but i'm pretty darn sure the subject is Games, not laptop. Any one think the same? as in no refound for a game under 49.99 you bought yesterday before the lappy.

Good grief. That's insane. I mean it's almost funny it's so crazy (obviously not when it was happening to you though!)

I'm unable to buy anything from Gamestop's website, but that dosen't even reach this level of crazy. (Gamestop won't even let my buy stuff online with THEIR card-it'll come back with "we were unable to determine if you have enough...blah blah" after a week of sitting there processing. I contact customer support, and I'm like, but it's YOUR CARD! Ditto for my credit card. It's like, no it works EVERYWHERE ELSE, it's not my card :D

Technically they're all forms of DRM, "activation" style is just the nastiest that I'm aware of. (Though these guys will somehow come up with something worse...like I don't know, stabbing you in the gut for buying a game? :D )

I know technically you can just crack it, but I'm not willing to give them my money and have to resort to something technically illegal to own/play the game I bought, which is supporting the whole "activation" scheme.

You don't Activate a securom game, i can install AoE II in my no internet PC. DRM will not play on a computer/device with out a connection to the server. But i see what you mean, they are all a pain in the arse, doesnt matter how they call their scheme saferom securom macrovision drm playright. You know what else is illegal? taping tv shows to watch later!!! pff, Half of the thing we do in the **** computer are consider illegal. Your doing the right thing though, If you don't like it boycotting is the way to go. This past couple of year we keep geting screwed left and right by the freaking (C) and all those greedy *******s (on and i do mean consumers not just suppliers)

It's just getting crazy! I don't really mind disc checks (seems fair enough) except that they rely on installing drivers to do it. Unfortunatly a bunch of new Securom games add Activation. I waited half a year to buy the PC version of Mass Effect, and then it ended up having activation, so I bought the 360 one. Spore is supposed to be the same way (so there goes another big PC game I was excited about), and last fall I had to do the same with Bioshock

"Excludes prior purchases" - I take that to mean that they won't refund you for a game you've already purchased.

have a feeling I'm going to get flamed for this ques because I'm sure it's probably answered somewhere in this thread, so I'm sorry.

Bought my 7811 on the 16th. I called in and they told me they couldn't price match with the sale because 14 days has passed. If I go in to the BB and bug them for a few minutes, will they price match it for me? Has anyone had success getting price matched after 14 days? Also, do I have to go into the BB where I bought it, because I bought it when I was in Delaware so that I didn't have to pay tax...

you're out of luck if you're past the 14th day... I just got back from Best Buy... I had bought mine online on the 20th... I picked it up at a local best buy... I saw the circular last week online and called, tried to get them to pricematch... I was told that labor day is like a black friday sale and they wouldn't do it....

so today I try again, this time I went to another local best buy and told them I wanted them to pricematch. The girl then tells me since I bought it online I had to call their 800 number. I had her call for me and then she handed me the phone. After a series of questions, including asking if the store had some of the laptops in stock (I didn't know, I just said yes). The rep on the phone gave me my $200 refund. :)

I also asked for the free game but she said I can only get one or the other, pricematch or promotion. I said Oh well it was worth a shot.

I'm happy I got my refund :) moral of the story is try and try again

I just got off the phone with Best Buy Customer relations. I Have a sinus infection and am laid up at home. I explained that to the rep and He decided to just cut a $200 check which is being dropped in the mail, saving me from having to go to the store :) How awesome is that!!! :D . In regard to some of you being told that they would not match the price their policy is clear and is stated on line. http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage...=cat10011&contentId=1118843518460&id=cat12098. They should be giving you no problems matching the price in regards to this sale.

So I bought my computer on the 16th. That's about 17 days ago (past the 14 day mark). I do not have my receipt either, nor am I anywhere close to the store where I purchased the 7811, so it looked like all hope was lost.

Alas, I decided to give it a try, walked into best buy, explained my situation to what may have been the nicest lady I've ever seen behind a customer service counter. She pulled up my record using my phone number and viola, gave me back $200. She actually said "sorry, I have to give you back the difference in cash." Sorry?! I love you lady.

Could not get the game though, because they "don't match packages, only prices." Oh well, I can't complain.

I have a quick question related to BB. I'm getting ready to buy one of these laptops myself in a week (wanted to this week so I can save 200 ; ; but that's not the way the cookie crumbled for me). Anyways the nearest BB to me is currently sold out so my question is does anyone know how often BB gets shipments of laptops? The next nearest BB is an additional 60 miles out of my way ;/

Morningstar, did you try to get a rain check from the BB that has the 7811 sold out. As far as I can see in their ad, you should be able to get one since the item has no restrictions and is not a limited quantity. One you get the rain check you'll be able to get it for the sale price next week.

This is a normal sale price, and you should have no problem getting one.

    +1

The REAL price of this laptop is $1399. They're only lowering the price by $100. There's a sale every month or so with Best Buy's best selling laptops.

    $1399 - $1249 = $150 plus the free game so $200 effectively.

Yes, especially since BB tacked on $50 on top of the $1399 suggested price. However 1249 for a WUXGA 17", centrino 2, P8400 with 200gb 7200 rpm drive, and a 9800M GTS! is a great deal even though it's from BB...

I don't know, it seems like a huge sale in Best Buy terms. They hardly do sales anymore.

I've been really tempted, and went to see it last night, but honestly I'd just be buying it for the solid GPU. I want an LED backlight, and I hate that crazy high resolution. (I was disapointed to see Vista STILL requires a reboot to alter DPI settings...you'd think they could just relaunch the video sub system or something...)
