Guys!!! Guess whatt!!!!?!??! YES, thats right! its the 1920x1200 !!!!!!!!!! *Kisses everyones* even though i didn't get the LG screen :( i am still satasfied :)

Kinda feels like won a lottery haha....
Anyway I gotta thank this wonderful community for all your advice...you guys have been very helpful...

Before i start gaming all night...I have a lot of questions...

1.) Does 1920x resolution mean its WUXGA?

2.) One thing i noticed right away when i login even though its not really a problem is that the fan gets loud every few seconds...sounds like its turning on and off..it goes away after a minute but comes back once in awhile..is this normal? Is there someway to fix it? It gets a bit annoying when i'm trying to do some work..

3.) I think the first thing i will do is remove all the unnecessary junk...should i remove norton antivirus also? And which anti virus do you guys recommend?
What else would you definitely install first?

4.) The plastic on the FX seems very prone to scratches and definitely a fingerprint magnet...Is there anything i can buy to protect the case and screen? Do you guys think ZAGG invisibleSHIELD makes screen protectors for this laptop?

5.) So its vista x64bit right now and i should leave that alone right? and its dx10? Is there any updates or drivers i should download? Because i know nothing about this stuff..

6.) Hmm..anything else i should know? Or any warnings?

    Thanks

    1.) yes WUXGA
2.) prop the back up 1/2" or so, it will help but not stop the fan.
3.) I'm an Avast person, YMMV........
4.) I'll agree but I'm a big A when it comes to my equipment, it will never be near enough to something to scratch it........ :)
    5.) I prefer the DOX optimized 185.20's
6.) sound is weak, read my other post in the "I hate my P7805-u's" thread for an enhancement. It doesn't make it great but makes it more bearable.........

This is the thermal paste settling and making better contact. Proping it up still helps in the long run. I have a NC2000 cooler as well. The GPU fan and even CPU fan never kick in unless running intensive respective tasks.

Propping up the back, say under the battery, with a bottle cap. you could also use one on each corner too. This help air flow.

Coolers are subjective, everyone has their experience. I use a Zalman NC2000, it is expensive but works.

The p9600 is a CPU upgrade, and MX-2 is the new thing for thermal paste. If you don't know what these are do not attempt them with out serious help.....

    Anytime.
That depends, personally 185.20 doesn't work well for me, but every system is different, alot of people are getting success with it so I suggest you try it first :)

I recommend lifting the whole thing to be honest.
If your using it on a desk or something I suggest putting 4 bottle caps under the 4 corners of the laptop.
Sometimes when you just raise the back, it makes the Harddrive hotter because its in the front and the slant cuts off the air to the harddrive.

haha alright im gona start saving bottle caps! So propping it or using a cooler stop the random fan noises? I owned this laptop for less than a day and the fan is already starting to bother me...it randomly makes noises even when im not doing anything!

The fan makes "noises" when the GPU his 48-50c and the fan will make the noise till it cools the GPU back down to 42c.
So if you keep the laptop cool enough to be under 48c it wont make the noise.

I'm not a huge gamer, so I don't know what you're running, but I get about 35-35 fps running Crysis at all medium settings. I'm using the stock drivers. Oh, and that was with Firefox, nVidia System Monitor, and Vista sidebar open in the background.

I wouldn't expect this thing to run graphic-intensive games at high settings with high fps. It does an amazing job for a laptop, but it still won't touch a similarly priced desktop.

Might you have changed the video settings in whatever game you're running? Do you have lots of other processes running while playing? Are you plugged in? Do you have your power setting set to High Performance? Other than those things, I don't know why it would have been so high and then dropped so low. You can always run Driver Sweeper to delete your new drivers and then reinstall the stock drivers.

Follw the instructions with the DOX drivers! They do say to remove the old drivers first. You need to also need to be sure the system is running in power mode as high performance.

Be carefull of the power supply. My original would cut out on load forcing battery and this cuts performance drastically..........

it...i only downloaded the driver from that site and installed...what should i do now? i didnt see any instructions and thought it was that simple...how should i fix this this..

Is it safe to leave it alone? Does this mean i have 2 drivers installed at once?

When you launch the DOX drivers it advises to uninstall the original drivers. This is what I meant by instructions. It means that for proper install you should uninstall the old ones so that you can then be sure all proper files for the driver are initialized along with proper registry entries.

I know you want quick and dirty answers to everything but the forum is a wealth of knowledge. This may entail alot of reading however. You will though find most problems you will encouter already have answers but this again entails you taking some time and reaserching for your answer and gaining knowledge along the way...........

And by the Guide we gave you last night, I mean this one:
    http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=265740
Kazeari posted it on Page 1 of this Thread, remember? :p
Note: I explained the first step in detail for you above in my quote. You don't need to use that guide now that you know how to install and I explained how to uninstall, but I just pointed it out since you said we told you to just download and install.. :p

uh oh i am stuck...trying to follow the instructions ..i rebooted the laptop after cleaning the display...but got lost at step 6..."Right click 'Standard VGA Graphics Adapter' -- Click 'Update Driver Software'' but instead i only saw the name of my video card so i just did what it told me with that since it was only thing i can do, hopefully its right...
Then at the last step ''12) If you encounter the error 'Windows can't verify the publisher of this driver' click 'Install this driver software anyway'' i did encounter an error but i could only close it didn't give me any other option!

I think this might have happened because i messed up on step one...i was supposed to clean before rebooting...but i was getting errors from sweep and didn't know about running as admin..until after i rebooted...THEN i cleaned..if that made a difference...

So now i uninstalled the driver and cant reinstall the 18020..should i reinstall the stock driver first and restart? If so how?

    -sigh- im hating myself now...

    1.) Yes

2.)Same thing for me with the fan, like everyone else says.. proping up the back helps a little, or just get a cooler.. you learn to get used to it though.

    3.)I removed everything that was not vital. I don't use Anti-Vir, I haven't in 2 years.

4.)You don't need anything, just clean it regularly, close it when not in use, get a microfiber cloth (It also cleans the frame nice). It's a fingerpring magnet, and due to my OCD I'm always cleaning it.

5.) Pretty much Video drivers are the only thing you want to really worry about... read up on the "Definitive Driver Update" topic, and the overclocking topics once you understand everything better.

6.) Nothing else that I know of really, just READ! (Not to sound like a jerk ) I've been reading this section in and out... it's extremely helpfull and all these people are really good people.

I've had some rough experiences with Norton over the last few years, mostly with its bogging down of the system and incredibly pain in the rear end removal of deeply embedded registry crap that I get with it, it made me very sad.

    :(

I've been using Avast! lately and have really liked it on my desktop with XP Pro 32-Bit
