I just got my new Gateway P-7807u FX 2 days ago. It seems to work great so far. I havent had a chance to play any hardcore games yet but I am sure it wont have any problems playing them. I had a Gateway P-6831FX but sold it and then shopped around and seen this one so I bought it.

Anything I should know about this unit?? Anyone else have it? If anyone is interested in a T7700 cpu let me know, It came out of my P-6831FX.

    Thanks!!

    7807? Looks like a 7805...
    Is this another version?

Note the 7807u has the P8600 CPU.

    That's the difference.

It was 1349.99 on Amazon.com. Not a bad price. I played some of FEAR 2 and everything was great, all max settings, no lag.

Yup, even as I was writing I thought there might be a CPU difference. Just too lazy to check...

    7811 7801 7804 7805 7807 7808 ........

It might have been simpler to go "ala-cart" and let us buy a basic framework (can you say "whitebook"?) and pick options. Sort of like Dell...

I may not even try to keep the various models straight any more. Not complaining, just anticipating another round of "best bag", "best CPU", "best driver" threads....

<Sigh> Just getting a bit cynical I guess...

lol...you arent the only one. thats why i only read through the forums every 3 or 4 days now. ironically, for the 78** series gateway notebooks, its the same answer for each one of those questions.

on another note...the 6831/6860 fall into the same category minus 'best cpu' as the chipsets are different between the 68** series and the 78** series laptops.

    Indeed...

I have been spending more time lately customizing my Windows Mobile phone than my lappy. Upgrading the UI, adding more RAM, installing software (got GPS working with REAL turn-by-turn voice software), etc.

Where, oh where is the next "got-to-have" accessory or hardware upgrade for my lappy? Getting bored now...

but why Gateway is busy reducing the screen resolution? 7801u has 1920x1200 but the better 7807u and the best 7808u both features 1440x900 is a whole lot annoying. also the 7808u has a low performing 5400 rpm hard disk, although 500GB.
btw can anyone please confirm me, whether i can plug a 7.1 channel speaker on this laptop? if it needs to be through the digital spdif port it is ok for me. I want to grab a 7800u series lappy, but not so sure about the stability, longevity, quality and performance of it. Please let me know a bit more.

No offence, but you are kind of silly if you think the 500GB 5400RPM is "low performing". Aside from the fact that it is the fastest 500GB notebook drive anyway, i can tell you that it performs quite nicely.

Has anybody heard anything about a 7812? On my endless search for a heatsink, I've come across 2 parts sellers who list a 7812, but there aren't any parts for it. Maybe it's just a typo?

I believe the 7812 was the Japanese version of the 7811 and included a Blu-ray drive. Otherwise, I believe it was the same as the 7811.

I was interested in 7812 and I was trying to find out where to get her. It's P7812j FX Japanese model, indeed it has Blue Ray drive, 1920 x 1200 panel
    and Bluetooth.

Oh, I remember that. I thought it was just called the 7811j though.
Actually, why is it called the 7811 at all. Why did they skip from 7805 to 7811, and then later start to fill in the gap?

    OT

How are the 7200-500's speedwise? Some people claim slower than the 5400-320's.

One has posted on the newegg review fwiw.

Speaking of bluray drives where can I get on for the notebook we all seem 2 have? Through gateway maybe? Also how can I have it where the outside cover matches the case as with the current drive.
