Ok.. you tried phlash16 and using the .rom to flash? Gimme a sec.. lemme try something.
-
Guys, has anyone else noticed this is the newer Phoenix SecureCore bios?
http://www.phoenix.com/en/Products/Browse+by+Products/Phoenix+SecureCore/default.htm
I'm thinking we don't stand a snowball's chance in hell of flashing this thing with ANY of the older tools. I think we're trying to fix a Porsche with Yugo tools here. -
i tried flashing both the .rom and .wph in both windows vista 64 and xp 32 as well as booting into dos and trying there with no success .
-
"SecureCore includes StrongROM, an embedded cryptographic engine, which allows authentication of the firmware itself. StrongROM can alternatively complement a TPM 1.2 chip in a system to further enhance device security. SecureCore provides a secure root of trust that can authenticate operating systems, such as Microsoft Windows Vista. It also provides for multi-factor biometric authentication to verify the identity of a user prior to any operating system being loaded."
That gets my attention. -
-
i figured something was up and maybe thats it . the old tools are just that Old
No wonder we havent seen an update yet from gateway yet . were going to have to take a course in rocket science to flash this bios . Any rocket scientists out there ?. -
I called and left him a message.. Im assuming he's not in the office at this time of night. I also emailed him. He'll call back tomorrow, I assure you. Here's the deal..this cant be flashed via winphlash while in vista. Wont ever happen. It's meant to be flashed via phlash16.exe. The .rom is the same size as the 7811FX BIOS.. not the .wph. Maybe there's a new .wph version coming out..who knows. But phlash16 isnt a high tech program. Im gonna try and just run a backup of my BIOS and see what happens.
This is the BIOS. It's a matter of the phlash16 command paramaters being correctly exectued.
phlash16 IMV-026.ROM /x /mode=3 /pf=cmos
That should quite possibly do it.I'll be the test dummy..
-
wait to see if this is going to work after all the reply .
-
i get platform signture not found in the interface with those commands you suggested and it wont go any further.
-
i have been looking for them hex tools he used. those are the ones to re write the code. and everything i have founds reverts to macs???
-
i had found a link for that xbinhex and it was an arj file havent seen that one in a while . but the site required some type of registration and it was russian i do believe .
http://www.files.lt/?t=searchresults&PageId=1&l=lt&ServerId=9089274 -
lol
i clicked on that link 4 times already trying to get it.
lol -
Lol i had a feeling you already saw that one but just threw it out there to be sure
.
-
i tried using the same parameters you suggested E-wrecked only this time with wph replacing the .rom including editing the autoexec.bat to reflect the .wph change and when i booted into dos the machine started beeping which was a first and it got to the same old dmi crap about them not being the same and do you want to continue and once again i hit NO
.
-
where did you find this set of commands at pal? -
-
it seems everything does go back to macs.. winhex, etc. I also ran into thr platform signature error..
john, google..someone was having issues flashing and so that was their method.
I manage to get backup to 3%, then it stops and the status bar says "Backing Up 64KB Block 1" -
yep, that's all we got as well...64k block then lock up...i let it run for an hour, just to make sure. and in the end...no go.
-
-
Did you try the Wph method i tried ? maybe you can get those crazy beeps i did . i just replaced the .wph and edited the .rom to .wph in the autoexec . When the beeping started i got spooked and excited all at once
but when i saw that error i said to hell with it cause my window of returns is now over .
-
ok.. Check it out. This is obviously the final build. And the BIOS sizes match up correctly. Im gonna throw 32 bit vista on here and give it a go around..
Attached Files:
-
-
Hmm.. did you try flashing from vista 32 bit?
-
Maybe imv flash rom is a new program to flash . its almost like that name is telling us what they used (speculation).
-
i tried Xp32 as well cause my rig is dual boot.
no 32 bit vista on here. -
Ok..Im hanging it up tonight. I'll leave a message for Chris again, and also send another email just to let him know it's kinda important.. I was also thinking.. BIOSMAN said he couldn't help me cause I didn't have the Gateway Original BIOS..and he also said that I wouldn't get it, cause they don't like to hand em out. Maybe I should send the BIOS to him now, and see what he says.
-
Thanks again E.
-
Now that we finally have the BIOS, can we petition Gateway for a seamless flash utility? Maybe I was spoiled by my XPS' clean and automatic "click me twice in Windows and click 'ok' and I'll update your BIOS" .exe files...but it really shouldn't be so do-it-yourself.
-
See original post! You must use FTP Client to download.. and there are also 2 new versions of the BIOS on the FTP Site.. v27 and v28. Hope it all works out now!
-
You don't need a FTP client to download from an FTP site. All browsers can operate in FTP protocol. I downloaded the file just fine on both ie7, google chrome, and firefox.
ftp://MilkaPM:[email protected]/MI1/SW/Firmware/WinFlash/
Also do you now the difference between v26, v27, & v28? -
v27 and 28 are not released yet..they are where quad core is being implemented. seems they're still revising.. So these are not suggested to flash unless you're confident they work
From the build file:

ok bios updated. working ok. thanks .
-
Great! +rep if ya love me
-
You cannot be 100% confident in gateway
, anyways quad cores are not out yet, so no point flash a bios that is still in the works and supporting an non-atm hardware.
btw, v26 flash great via Winplash64! -
any guide on how to phlash the p7811? i tried searching, im getting other laptops.
-
So do we finally have confirmed reports of sucessful bios flashes on teh 7811 with these new files?
-
It worked perfect through DOS bigddybn go for it
.
-
im even more pumped about the fact that were getting quadcore support for sure and no more speculation.
-
Oh Btw thanks again E- none of this would have been possible without your persistence . i repped you last night and will again when its possible
.
-
....i just downloaded the windows version and ran the program and it did everything for me then rebooted, checked it, it was .08, i dont see why you guys are having troubles
but now how would i go about enabling raid, i didnt see anything in the bios about it, and if i went to install vista via raid 0, dont i need raid drivers for that? -
The nice thing about Vista is that it has built in RAID drivers
-
phlash16 /s /x /mode=3 /bbl IMV-026.wph
did anyone get a chance to try this line yet....
i just noticed that we weren't trying to program the boot block layer in our earlier trials. -
You are installing what is about the 6th or 7th try. This is the first one that we've had any success with. This is the second thread and the first post of this thread has been edited a few times as E had gotten better info.
And no, I don't believe you'll need drivers. Vista supports it out of the box. -
-
What was wrong with my answer?
-
Just wanted to stress that his success was the result of a combined ongoing effort and not just dumb luck on his part.
-
Yep, run the flasher and it worked like a dream. Thank you so much guys, +rep to you!
Just one more question, does the raid option appear in the bios after inserting the 2nd HDD in or is it already enabled thus not visible? I couldn't see the option in BIOS after flashing, even though the bios version is the newer one. -
you guys pwn! johnksss and E-wrecked! made my year!
my last reservation on buying this notebook was the raid issue.
anychance someone can confirm that raid 0/1 is indeed available now in C08?
much appreciated -
you'll just need to add a second hard drive and it should show raid option in bios there after.
-
Ok, great! Off to buy the 2nd hdd then..
-
Good to see everyone is having luck, and the BIOS is a success. I'll try to make the instructions easier to read and edit the OP. Congrats all!
