Bring on the quadcores nowThe quadcore in my desktop is a beast @ 3.2ghz.

Well that was stupidly easy. Just launched the win64 app and it did everything automatically. 9c.08.00
E if I could rep you again I would. If you guys are ever in or near Stuart Florida PM me. I will gladly buy you a beer and a burger. -
Successfully flashed mine too. Cheers!
-
Ridiculously easy would have been my way of putting it... and as to rep, me too.

Has anybody noticed that the cpu fan operates slightly different? It seems like its running more than it should. On 05, it will idle at 30's with the cpu fan pretty much silent, now with 08 it idles around 25's with the cpu fan not so quite.
-
i havent really had time to check out the fan activity tbh but i will later . i have so much stuff usually running in my room the laptop is the quietest thing i have going.
-
Still no overclocking options for previous merom/penryn xtreme cpus?
-
i dont think so as E- would have reported it . If we could find that program XBINHEX what ever this is i think johnkss hopes were that it would lead to possibly creating or editing your own bios proper.
-
exactly! i had to take it into another room to really hear the fans.
correct again. im still looking....always on the hunt for new ways to over clock the cpu.
-
I'll see if I can get either THE compiler, or at the least see if they'd be willing to unlock the option to OC via BIOS. That will gimme something to work on tonight.
-
very good idea here on all accounts!
-
I love you guys.
Ordering two 320 7200rpm disks. -
Gotta post sumpin' to subscribe to thread.
Darn, my 2 x 320 @5400's $60 each AR Hitachi's didn't arrive yet. So no fun this weekend.
Man I hate Hitachi's but couldn't pass up the price. -
Flashed mine seamlessly in Vista64 as well. Good going, E - and nice to know new BIOSes are in the works.
-
All Good E-Wreck....
Thanks for all your effort.....Rep+1 -
Glad I could be of assistance..
EDIT: Maybe I should change the Avie now.. no more test dummies.
-
I had no intention of flashing today and I definitely was not going to Winflash. I just thought I would run Winflash to check it out. Yikes, there is no "just trying it out." Once that darn thing starts it rocks and rolls. Just pucker and hope for the best!
-
LOL! No turning back! Ya wouldnt want to anyhow
Hope this BIOS resolves more than RAID..and I think it will. Has a different ACPI table, which as I mentioned a few weeks ago was likely the root of a lot of problems.
Dang E-wreck, you are kinda smart sometimes. Even though you're a c0cky @$$hole others.
LOL @ Avie Syn - Kinda gayish tho..any men angels?
-
Edited For Your Safety, And My Financial Well Being.
-
done, now edit this one.....LOL
-
Yay!!! this is really awsome!!! wait.. I think I already said that.. ok here's my question.. WHY DOES RAID SEEM TO LOWER THE PERFORMANCE?
-
bumping my post...
Any body else experiencing this? -
For anyone who is the panicky type:
Once you click the .exe file in the Windows method, the process starts. You're committed at that point. When it's finished, Windows will automatically restart. Your BIOS splash screen will come up, and then (what scared the **** out of me) the screen will go black and your BIOS splash screen will come up again.
This only happened once, and it booted normally after that. So don't think in that first (and only) reset that you've bricked your system. It's probably just the EEPROM double-checking the BIOS.
Probably your stripe size. -
say E, some very interesting stuff in there...no programs though, but interesting reading none the less...
-
i flashed through dos as i hate running flash utility through windows of any kind.
-
I havent explored yet..but I will
looking forward to getting off work!
Quad, anything special you had to do? Or was it straight forward? And USB or Floppy? -
i actually took the auto exec from the cd version of the 94.28 bios and edited it to that new parameter we needed . so it looked like this ... and it gives you a choice at the beginning instead of just straight flashing.

oh and i used a USB flash drive to update it. -
It's a new BIOS. the ACPI tables, the fan temp thresholds, etc. were likely updated to accomodate it. Usually, if your fan is spinning that's a good sign your computers not going to overheat. Usually. Why does everyone have such an interest in these darn fans? They actually work, unlike some other OEMs who are now having problems from overheating.
To simplify:
Fans spin = Good
Fans don't spin = Bad
Loud fans = Lots of air
Lots of air = Longer life for your computer
No air = We all die. Computer included. -
Quad, very nice man.. was editing it last night myself.. Just that /bbl command was holding up the show eh? Go figure
-
Just flashed. I need two drives to show the raid option in the bios, yes? I'll have two seagate 320's on order, but I was just hoping to see the option reguardless
-
Ya it figures it was something so simple but either way it was worth the wait and i couldnt be happier about not having to exchange my machine just to get the new bios .
Thanks again for the hardwork . -
yeah, i was saying the same thing my self....
found some other stuff...downloading now...i hope it's what im looking for... -
I really hope you find a way to sign your own bios, that would be awesome.
-
what do you mean by sign? and where would it show at?
-
signing is basically a set of keys that might be required to access certain parts of say a bios or hardware say in a console where if you dont have said key you aint gettin in .
its to stop from malicious stuff from happening or people trying to make there own bios
.
I think the reason it may not have worked before when you tried as i was thinking about it was it wont be as simple as editing something through notepad or the like . it will be through a hex program and the hex codes may not even look anything like say 3.2ghz it would be just a string of numbers that somehow add up to that number your trying to get to .
Its done for EXEs in alot of PC games where people wanted specific resolututions added to said game but it wasnt as easy as say just typing 1920x1200 in a .cfg file.
All this is (speculation of course) -
~Just an idea.. should this be a sticky for anyone looking for the BIOS? I mean, would go well with the other 7811 thread up top that is stickied. Just an idea.~
-
i would vote yes on the sticky . hopefully a mod can do it as to not eventually have 800 threads all asking how to get the new bios or flash a bios etc .
-
very good speculation indeed! and i was in a file looking for "THEM DAMMN CODES" right now...*LMAO* the ones that you just hit and the menu magically changes to advanced. thought i seen something for a minute, but it was something else. and your right about the hex stuff...seems they have a few programs they use.... im still being nosy they do how ever have a code for the passworded locked hard drive...
-
I'd think if we all "hey mod" it with the ! icon they'd get it stickied pretty fast.
-
The one thing i havent come to grips with is my power profile settings keep changing either every reboot or every few reboots . say i have it high performance and its set to Never Never for AC and Battery, well the next time i reboot it reverts back to the defaults of said profile. its driving me nuts and ive scoured the web looking for a solution and have found nothing that helped.
-
john..you picked up the 7811? And is the BIOS now able to be opened with Phoenix? I'm about to tinker around.. I haven't had a chance to. Just got home and ready to play.
Side note..I emailed Maggie, and hopefully she replies as swiftly as before. I asked if she could provide info on why it won't overclock..if the BIOS locks the multiplier, and voltages.. If I invested money, would they assist.. or at the least provide me with info on how to edit and test my skills. OR she could test her skills and save us both some time
That's the summary..but made it a bit more professional.
-
Try taking out the battery and let you laptop sit for 10min, and put back in. That usually resets the power management inside the battery itself.
-
nah, bios is not able to be opened with our editor and i have been looking around for about an hour now. found some programs but none seem to be a bios editor. and nope, dont have a 7811 yet. havent made up my mind if im going with a np9262 with dual gt's yet. seems the gt's are running just as fast if not faster than the gtx's....
-
That would great if you can get that kinda of help from her .
As for johnk man you need to stick with us here at team Gateway
.
The 9262 is an awesome machine for sure. there was a time i was debating on buying one but couldnt bring myself to dumping that kind of scratch on what was essentially just a desktop reefed into a small case and at 11+pounds i couldnt see myself chilling in bed with that hog
.
-
Hmm.. *crosses fingers* Hope she emails back with positive news. I was extremely suprised that I made it this far. Maybe they'll just be happy someone is taking interest in their efforts.. and provide whatever I ask. Or maybe they think I'm some type of Exec at Gateway
Hope the signature from my email convinced them..
Sincerely,

ummmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm............BAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!
she might ask you who your buddy was over there downloading everything... *LOL* and tell you to beat it!...*LOL* -
Yeah, I think I may be out of download quota..she started it at 300000k. It's bout gone.
Guess I gotta find an alternate.
-
well........ i went through about 60 directories, but nothing to compile or read with.... some drivers/updates/patches/drivers/notes/complaints/failures and so on....
-
Well, browsing through the dirs, I took the chance to update the O2 media driver.
also flashed the usb camera firmware for fun (didn't even know that was possible
)
interesting: found a nvidia gpu flashing program along with a .rom
I checked my current gpu bios version and it's a newer version. -
