thanks e but i think i just made a few people mad in this forum because at about three in the morning and gateways not so helpful service i flashed my bios to 8.0 something but this is really weird it runs better than it did than on the new bios but if i reformat with the recovery disc i made with the gateway recovery will it put my bios back so i can dump it for u guys if it messes up back to best buy hehe but f10 did work well let me know and thank you e
-
As far as I know, the Gateway Recovery does not have anything BIOS related. If you flashed it to an older BIOS (not sure why one would do that unless they were experiencing issues), then that BIOS (.17) is lost.
Define "it runs better than it did than on the new bios" if you don't mind. -
ok here is the quick version my laptop would not shut down 90% of the time and it ran like poop slow i had tweaked it to death as far as services and i chose to run for best performance so no themes or side bar running only thing that ran on startup was esst nod32 and that driver for mouse paid nothing else really and everything was just slow my xp machine only has 1gb off ram this has 4gb of ddr4 i flashed bios and speed was were it should have been my vista scores have always been 5.2 for processor but 5.9 everything else this machine runs so much better with old bios and sorry to break your hearts but the .17 bios had no advanced options as far as i could see i may take this back and get another just so i can post the .17 bios and since i have downgraded bios it runs faster and i have changed nothing but bios still have same drivers and raid 0 stripe 128 for movie editing the only game experince ive had with this machine is madden08 which it ran great for the 5mins i palyed well thats all
-
Um, no. That is all. Just: No.
-
ok i exchanged this laptop 7805u i know have a fresh bios to backup and make available for u guys so ewrecked get with me i have version 9c.17.00

InfectedSonic Notebook Evangelist
im sry but judging from your other posts you havent even had the laptop for over a week so i really dont know how you can say it runs faster? my laptop has the .17 bios and its lightning fast. i have no idea how an older bios could be faster then a new bios it just doesnt really make sense to me. anyway hope you enjoy your laptop as much as i have
-
i dont know i did fresh install so i dont understand either this new machine even seems faster than what i had may have been defect or something how many processes do u have running
-
InfectedSonic Notebook Evangelist
oh i have a ton because i like to install lots and lots of programs.
showing processes from all users i currently have 54 running.
im also not using vista either by the way. im using windows 7 ultimate x64 build 7057. -
thanks for the reply my brother has same lappy and is running windows 7 im going to it on this one i just dont care for vista i have heard that windows 7 is not as bad as vista and do u agree that i should try windows 7 my brother loves it but i cant see his lappy or play with it he lives in flordia and im in ohio oh thanks
-
InfectedSonic Notebook Evangelist
i would highly recommend it i love it as well. i do have to tell you a few things though not sure about other builds but with build 7057 the networking is kinda funky. with me for some reason whenever i try to access files on the laptop from another computer it completely disables the ethernet port.(unplugging the ethernet cable and plugging back in makes it work again) and it will blue screen at some point one way or another. this is all normal oh and the bsod are not every 5 seconds i get it only like once or twice a week with heavy use. other then that i cant think of anything else. oh yeah my kaspersky did not work on it but kaspersky gives a free license to use the beta of kaspersky anyway so i didnt lose anything.
-
Chad, depending on what you do with your laptop. If you need reliability, stay with Vista 64-bit. If you don't and just like to mess aroung with things, then go ahead with Windows 7. Just note that the beta ends the day Windows 7 comes out (might be sooner or later, don't remember exactly). As far as the laptop response, I'm still running the original install from Gateway. I just uninstalled some of the stuff that came with it and it runs fine. In Vista, I'm also running around 55 processes. My laptop seems to run just fine. Using BIOS 9C.00.12. Wouldn't mind trying the .17

So what is BIOS? Should I do it? I want the most out of my 7811FX!
-
thanks Eurasianman i want to disregard my previous post about 9.8 running better on my 7805u than the 17 bios this machine runs as it should but the previous one did not i believe it was a defective laptop but on question to all here i have the second hd installed should i setup raid0 i chose 0 because i do alot of video editing the hd i chose was the seagate momentus 320gb 7200 rpm and 16mb cache so if i do set it up should the second hd be 128stripe and the first say somthing smaller for os and programs well thanks for all the replys
-
delta just leave it alone for now if u have the 17 version leave it be if u have the .8 then hold on for a bit im trying to backup and make availble for download the 17

InfectedSonic Notebook Evangelist
if you figure out a way to dump the bios then by all means let me know. i cant for the life of me figure it out and gateway doesnt help at all lol.
-
yea ryo all gateway has ever said to me is reformat lol never helped me do anything serious their support sucks i hope acer does a better job

Gateway P7808U laptop has Quadcore support.
Look it up on their website,
there must be a bios for our computers to have quadcore support as well...
http://www.gateway.com/systems/product/529668248.php -
oh then we got to be able to put a quad in the 7811 and 7805 then just need proper bios i have the .17 bios im just waiting for e wrecked to tell me how to back it up
-
InfectedSonic Notebook Evangelist
im pretty sure he has already tried a few methods on getting it to dump as i have. it could be due to a mobo revision though but i high doubt it.

I'm having a problem thats causing me to pull out my hair in frustration. I was wondering if upgrading the BIOS would solve the problem.
I own the p-7811fx and got it a day before launch day. I have had it and had zero issues with it...that is until last friday.
I put my laptop on hibernate. i returned an hour later and when i took it out of hibernate...I suddenly had all these services shutting down on me. "indexing service has stopped responding"..."Internet explorer has stopped working...". Then it would freeze. Actually, no matter what ...it freezes within 5 minutes of normal mode. I can boot to safe mode just fine and hang around online but that is the extent.
I'm really sad about this and have no idea what to do next. I tried applying the windows hotfix for this but when i run it...it says its not able to run on my system.
If anybody knows of this and thinks upgrading to the latest BIOS will fix this..please holla. Thanks for your help everyone!
Jay

I am fairly certain that your problem is not bios related. It seems that your windows os is corrupted.
Either repair it or reinstall windows. -
Alright. I will reinstall and post what happens here.
I just read some horror stories and apparently, even after the reinstall...it still happens profusely. Let's hope it doesn't happen to me! I'll post what happens here. Thanks! -
...or possibly a driver conflict? installed any new video drivers, or chipset drivers lately?
-
Hello, quick question, and please excuse, that I do not read through 98 pages of posts
I have the following bios version (pre installed) 9c.05.00 on my 7811 fx. Runs fine, have no problems, apart from the fans starting every now and then (known issue from last years discussions).
Now I see, that there are much "newer" bios versions available.
Would it make sense to install them? Where is the performance/stability difference, if there is any at all? Basically, why should I update the bios?
I use my 7811 primarily for gaming (LOTRO) which is at some stages heavy on the harddisk (heating up), as well as on the graphics (heating up).
I am running on Vista 64 and have a second partition with Windows 7. If I should update the bios, would it tear either of the OS apart?
Would be graet, to have a little "summary" input of 98 pages
Many thanks in advance!
Regards -
E-Wrecked is the expert here. If you do NOT use raid then stick with what you have.
May be one day, E-Wrecked will have the new bios 17c with quad core support then you can go to a quad core!!!
Kempatsu, let us know how you make out.
-
I found my fans are rarely active anymore. I have vista64 on my ssd and bios .12 (as i recall people said .12 had less fan pulsing and RAID support)
-
less fans with SSD....
hardly surprising
.
Question would be, also less fans with a "normal HDD" ?
By the way, what SSD is that?
Thanks and regards -
Second Gen Samsung 64gb SLC. It's been soooooo long since i was on .05 but i recall the fans pusling less noticably when i switched to .12 before the ssd. Now i can't wait to get my tax return and run two sammies RAID0. I'll be HDD free, ice cold, and flying!

pmassey31545 Whats the mission sir?
Crap!!!!!!! I just joined the forum and I am having the same probs with the Quad core. I talked with Gateway and the 7805 will support it but we need a BIOS for it. They said look to Intel. No Dice! I installed it and the lappy will power on but will not POST. Any new developments. I already upgraded from the P8400 to the T9600 but I want that QAUD!!!>>>Any help?
-
Gateway is slacking.. that's the best answer I got for ya. I'll try to remember to call them tomorrow.
-
LOL look to intel!!! What s! Love the machine but the company is a little shady...
-
I posted my story in another thread bout my last talk with a Gateway rep and this BIOS. The short of it, they told me to seek the mobo manufacturer for the BIOS and then followed up saying it would void my warranty. I told him I was perfectly fine with that, and asked who makes the mobo. He then studdered, tripped over his tongue, and said that they can't endorse voiding my warranty. Guess I called his bluff. Anyhow, I'll call gway here in a minute or two.
-
I saw that Intel released the T9900, have they released any new quads, the q9000 is pretty sad. And I'm pretty sure that the BIOS falls under Gateway, not Intel. This reminds me of those lovely conversations I have with Toshiba when Vista was first released and how I would void my warranty if I installed XP and how the notebook was not defective...only to have a fix released about a year after Vista was released via a BIOS update.
-
I wonder if it would be just easier to get rid of the 7805u and get an OCZ Whitebook at this point---
-
Hmm.. Good question. If you want a quad-core, it's not looking good on the upgrade options. Spoke with Gateway today, and the guy was kinda an . He kept it short, "If it's not on the support site, it's not available." I asked a few questions, made a few comments.. then asked for other options. To which he replied, "Like I said, if it's on the support site then it's available(obviously) otherwise we don't have any other options". Least helpful tech, to-date.
-
so what is the newest bios here? 9c.12.0?
-
pmassey31545 Whats the mission sir?
Wow! GW is getting on my nerves with this. The p-7808 supports Quad so it's got to be there somewhere. And their tech support is obviously reading from a cue card and most, not all, have no idea what a BIOS is let alone where to find one. DANG!!! I want Quad Core. Still love the computer and GW. US based support. Still gotta love that. AS for the BIOS, mine is 9C.17.00. But GW has no support yet for Computers with 22 digit serials which is the 7805. Go figure.....
-
man that sucks. this was one reason i wasnt going to buy gateway but a friend talked me into it. i was gonna do a dell xps m1730 on there outlet or a asus.
-
I really wish Gateway would get there act together, I'm looking at the Q9100 and they don't look to bad for the price.
-
Do you think GW would eventually release a BIOS that would allow 78XX users to upgrade to QUADs, or overclock the CPU(higher than 3.0 ghz?
-
Quads, yes.
As for CPU, maybe to support CPU over 3.0Ghz, but not to overclock (Core 2 Extreme). In other words, CPUs that run at 3.2Ghz, will now run at 3.2Ghz and not 2.9~3.0Ghz, but that is only a guess. -
I just finished installing the T9900, and it shows up @ 3.06GHz....works perfectly. Runs a little warm for me, 76C after an hour of Orthos, but havent started working with RMClock yet
EDIT: Scratch that, I was looking at the wrong temp (TZS0/1), CPU temps are topping out at 64-65C -
Lucky you Capper! I wish I had that much money to spend on a CPU upgrade.
-
$430 on EBay for an OEM...I figure if I can sell my P8400 for $175 or so then I'm looking at a little over $250.
Been working with RMClock all night...IDA is really wonky, instead of stressing one core its stresing both cores and showing the .5 multi, but BSODs every time I close RMClock.....other than that, it idles at 37C and tops out at 55C after 75 minutes of Orthos, although the TZS0/1 sit a little warm at 68-69C. -
