.23 and .25 just seem to alow the GPU to run at higher temps to prevent what some experience as fan pulsing trying to keep the temps down. I don't think there is much else to them but someone I think looked at the .25 and the code blocks were modified to remove the Xtreme section in the listed clock speeds. Not that our bios ever did or will support extreme CPU overclocking.
I am on .17 but I seem to have a cool running GPU. My fans don't ever kick in just idling or surfing the web. With my NC2000 on I don't even get the fans to kick on durring HD video decoding. As I sit here and type my GPU is 47C and that is with Powermizer off too.
This is why I haven't touched the GPU with ICD yet. As they say if it aint broke don't fix it................
-
-
Same here my GPU idles in the 40c range with no cooler and powermizer off. If my gpu starts to go over 75c when gaming then I might consider using some ICD on my GPU but right now its not worth the work.

hi guys I'm new on the forum.
I tried all bios for my fx7811 but to me the 17 seems to be the best cause keep the hit around 50°..
But from last month the latpot has started to hang on bios screen for around 30s before os boot.
I updated even the last bios 9.25 but the problem persists.
This is so bad
I just bought a 60gb SSD to step up the system and it's more the time it hangs on bios than the win7 startup..
Any suggestion??
Thank
Bye -
ahh sorry.
I forgot to mention that the problem happens only if I swich on the computer when is turned off, if I just restart the system it's very fast ( couple of second and window's logo is on the screen)
bye -
When you first power up the system has to initialize all of the internal and attached components................
-
thx that its what I though but it has never took so long..
How can I discored which device takes more to initialize??? -
Did anyone notice that .23 and .25 disappears from the gateway site? It is only .20 now.
-
Ultimate Destruction Notebook Evangelist
.20 is the only one that supports Win 7 supposedly. The others are there under Vista. .25 has been gone for a while though. -
I have Win 7 and 9c.17.00 and it seems fine.............
-
I also downgraded my 7815u to 9c17 from 9c23 and everything works great
-
Hi, I'm new to the form... I too went up and down the BIOS from 9c17 to 9c20 then 9c23 and 9c25... I went back down to 9c17 so much cooler on the GPU and I don't even game... I'm running Win 7 with no problems also... By the way thanks to all who help me with my CPU upgrade tried the Q9100 and the best I got was Win 7 running in safe mode, so getting a P9700 because of all the great info on this thread and other threads... I had to join to say thanks and help if I can...
-
I don't think others ever even got to safe mode, not even a bios post with a Quad Core...........
Which P78xx and which HS do you have? -
I have the P-7803h (Canadian Version of the P-7805u) just a different cpu a P7350 to keep costs down, I guess... I'm sorry but what is 'HS' ? I was told they have the same MB and was surprised I got that far too. Figured for a minute I would get it running, but when I started Windows 7 or Vista (in normal mode) or Ubuntu it would go so far, blank the screen and reboot... Tried for three days but no go...
-
HS = HeatSink, there are two versions. one has fairly long prongs for the CPU legs bolted to the main board. If you got to safe mode did you try a reinstall of the OS? Also when you were in safe mode did it show all four cores running in task manager?
Edit 1; sometimes the CMOS tables have to be reset too. You would do this by removing the AC and battery and under the wireless card is the CMOS battery that has to be unplugged or removed. Turn the power on button for 20-30 seconds to clear the caps and you should be set to reassemble and go to bios to set time etc.
Edit 2; I am Soooooooo tempted now to try a Q9200 with unlocked core.........................
Edit3; this is my same HS, I haven't pulled it appart to see the GPU HS though...............

The heat sink I'll check and put the part no. on next post. I did not try to reinstall the OS because it would not run the repair windows app. I also tried to run Ubuntu from a CD and would not run, but no problem when I put the P7350 back in. It ran with no problems in safe mode with networking, went online the whole bit, all things I tried on the control panel worked. Like I said I tried for three days did a lot of things. Back and forth between CPU's to make sure... One thing I did notice the computer would not do anything when I had 9c17 installed but changed it to 23 and 25 and that's when it started to work as much as it did. The BIOS thought it was a Extreme Core Duo with only 2 cores and the task manager showed only two cores... I also had to get rid of my password protection on the BIOS and HDD but that might have been a coincidence... I'll check my HS...
Edit: The HS says 60.41202.001 A01
FCV 20090218
Last number looks like manufacturing date...
Edit 2: Never thought to reset the CMOS... Just sent back the Q9100, only had 7 days to get it back to the UK for refund, darn... -
Jut got my P9700 SE and works great so far, its only been 6 hours... Temps are at 35 - 38 C two degrees hotter than my old P7350, but the computer is about twice as fast... I have it on 9c17.00 BIOS running Win 7 right now... Not one hiccup so far, worked first time... Next more memory...

Driver (WDM) Init Fail! (0x137)
and I changed my profile. I have NO Q9100 but X9100. -
The issue is due to a missing file not your processor. I forget which file is missing though.
-
Sounds like Sound driver?.?.?
-
You have to update bios in dos. Most can't update in Win7 (including me). "Missing file" is not the primary issue. Instructions are in this thread.
-
I am able to update in win 7, I guess it's hit and miss
-
Was yours a fresh Win7 install or an upgrade from the original Vista installation?
-
It is a fresh install.
-
Is Phoenix WinPhlash Utility, v1.7.0.16 solve this?
-
I just wanted to say "many thanks" to everyone who has posted on this forum. I bought my p-7811fx in 2008, and have never been able to find BIOS updates through Gateway's support site. This thread helped me patch my bios from 9c05 to 9c17. It's running cooler now, and the GPU appears to be a little faster.
cheers,

I went back to 9c.23.00, the fan pulse was driving me nuts. My system idles at 65%c but thats ok, as long as it does not go over 80%c. I have seen it at 72%c at the highest.
-
So Ive been trying to run the IMV 3564 for 9c.17 and the IMV 3632 for 9c.20 exe in admin mode for my win 7 64 bit, but all I keep getting is an driver init (0x137) fail. Can anyone help me?
-
What laptop do you have?
-
I still get that on mine too. I am a fresh install of Win7 64bit. I am already on 9c.17.00 so I at pressent am in no hurry to upgrade the bios..............
-
I think I ended up going back to 9c.17.00 too, I was having some really weird raid problems with .20/.23
I couldn't even load windows, I eventually loaded .17 and had to partition my hard drive 20/80% and it finally worked... No friggin idea why? -
Removing the cmos battery. Will that set the bios back to default, no password? When you say, press the power button, hold the power button down for 30 seconds? I have a 7811. I'm locked out of the bios. I flashed the bios with windows. It seem to take but still locked out. I left the battery unplugged over night and was still locked out.
-
I'd have to ask whom are you refering to as "When you say". I'd appologize as well but we can not answer questions here about bypassing a password as well..................
-
Sounds like a stolen notebook :/
-
Anyone have a dos version of a fairly new bios. im looking for 9c.12
-
Good afternoon first excuse me for my english ok ...so now i would like flshing my P.Bell Ipower M102FR ist the same of Gateway P7811FX ok ! but when flashing with the soft gateway for that the error is occured message is "drivers WDM is fail" !! what this ??? please help me thx a lot bye see you later !!!
-
I am not sure, but WDM fail has something to do with the video driver. Uninstall the one on your laptop, reboot, and install the most current from Nvidia 260.99.
-
Thx for you quick respons but its not that arf im very hungry because i would like o flash this bios !!! Anybody a solution ???
-
Ok its good now problem resolved thx a lot all ! Bye see you later !!
-
Hi all !! Its possible to overclock the P7811FX Gateway or not ??? If its possible can you give me a setfsb sis good ?? Thx a lot for your response.....
-
-
ah OK thx i understand its not possible ....bye
-
I put in 9c.23.00. Curiosity got to me. I've turned off powermizer as this alows the GPU to run cool without any fan. We shall see how it fares out............
Edit, I've noticed it lets the GPU slowly cool down from 70C, maybe this is what helps the GPU live a bit longer without reflow issues.......... -
I think there is some mis-understanding of the purpose of Powermizer. Powermizer is designed to reduce the gpu processing speed and power usage in situations where it isn't needed or when the GPU is running hotter than it should be. Turning it off actually causes it to run hotter since it will run at full throttle all the time instead[ and there is some risk of overheating in some situations.
It is reported that Powermizer may cause sudden framerate drops by errornously reducing GPU clock speed when it shouldn't. I've never personally had that happen. On that note if the GPU is legitimately being downclocked due to overheating issues then there is a real risk of the GPU failing due to the heat levels. -
On some video I've noticed it benefits from having powermizer off. wither GPU acceleration is bieng utilized and the GPU speed is not kicking up or just the video memory isn't getting the required boost.
With our laptops though it is alsxo used to prevent the memory timing error going between 2D and 3D speeds. The other option is to use the modded bios........ -
Alright I hate to ask such a noob question but can someone here tell me exactly how to update my bios? I have a P7811fx running windows 7, I have downloaded the bios files from gateway and many from this very thread but I can not any of them to work, the exe files will not load in W7 which I see some of you also have this problem. I booted up with dos mode and trying to run the flash but keeps saying the program failed or the bios itself failed. I just can't figure out what it is exactly I am doing wrong and the instructions by the OP do not help at all nor do any of the links.
Again sorry for a such a noob thing to ask but for the life of me I just can not figure out what I am missing, perhaps a program that needs to go in the directory with the bios files or maybe I am not using the right kind of files for DOS mode? I really don't know though I would really appreciate the help and some very simple clear instructions on how to update my bios (and which bios would be best for me currently have 9c.08) and what programs I need to do it, thanks in advance guys. -
I have been able to update in Win7, did to try running as a admin?
-
yep I get an error every time I try
-
hmm, did you try it in safe mod? Did you get the right Bios? It says its for Vista or xp I think, it did not matter.
-
Thank you for helping, just tried in safe mode and still get the same error when I try to open the exe file this is what it says
m_RomDbCtrlInit fail!(0x385)
I downloaded the bios files from gateway site for P7811fx, I believed 9C.20 version specified for W7 64 version that I am running, unzip and get these files IMV-038.exe IMV-038.rom flash64.sys & setting.ini, then I try to open the exe and get that error. So I just not sure where I am going wrong
Like I said I did read a lot of this thread and some experienced the same error I am having and said it had to be done in DOS mode which I also can't get to work or I'm just not using right
EDIT: ok so I was actually able to use the 9C.17 bios exe just unzipping the file in a different location than i have been previously though I am still not able to install 9C.20 dl'd from gateway site, is their a big difference between the versions that I should care to upgrade or is their a higher bios update I should be looking for? -
I think the only diffrence with the newer Bios is GPU heat Managment. I would not worry too much, I think many people on this tread are using 9c.17. I am running 9c.23 and my GPU is running at 76c, pretty hot, but I have had no issues, and the fan does not come on and off constently.
