    God damn IT!!!
A few weeks ago I flashed my 7805 to x.25.
GPU temps were so high and fan diddn`t start many times
Yesterday i went back to x.17
    and I was very LUCKY
because I realised after a few moments that I flashed BIOS without being connected to the charger!!!!!!

I cannot be a risk taker because I didn`t know that i was unplugged. It would be a disaster if something went wrong.

Do any of these Bios's work for the P-79?

Or is there any modded bios or anything for the P-79?

So I am incredibly new to this.
I own a 7809U and have just done a major PC overhaul.
Reformatted my drive and put on W7 Professional (64 bit).
I found these forums and am curious to flashing/upgrading my BIOS.
I've never found any problem with the BIOS I am currently running and if "the bike isn't broken why fix it?"

The BIOS I found is the .20 on here
    Gateway Support - Downloads & Support Documents - Notebook / P Series / P-78

Is it as simple as extracting the files from the .zip and running the batch file?

Should I go through with it and upgrade? What are the benefits?
I'm not much of an overclocking person (not yet anyways I don't plan on a CPU upgrade anytime soon)

Don`t upgrade to BIOS higher than .17.
20 and 23 lets your GPU to reach much higher temps. sometimes fan doesnt even turn on.
    I have experience with 17, 20,23 and even 25.
    17 is the "coolest one"
    there are no significant benefits
dont believe in stories like: i upgraded my bios and gained xxx FPS in 3d games

.17 is not Windows 7 compliant. You need to run the 1394 port as the legacy driver. for .23 you can use the standard windows 7 1394 port driver without the sleep hangup.................

btw: 1394 driver v6.1.7601.17514 (driver date 06/21/2006) (standard windows 7 1394 port driver - installed during windows install)

if you reboot from win without it having gone to sleep/hybernate it will reboot fine. If it goes to sleep hybernate and you wake up and it wont reboot then the 1394 driver is the issue. Switch it too the 1394 (legacy) driver and if this ccures the reboot issue then you know for sure it needs .23 bios to reboot with the standard 1394 driver................

How do you switch to the 1394 legacy driver?

Just wanted to post a good link to all of the latest BIOSs for the 7811.

    Gateway Support Drivers & Downloads

Gateway's P78 BIOS page gave me a 9c.23 BIOS that said I had the wrong laptop and did not work for me, so I haven't been able to upgrade to the latest BIOS to see if it cures my TZS0 98C bug.

These appear to have different packaging, so hopefully I'll be able to get it up to the latest version now.

I'm getting the Driver(WDM) Init fail!(0x137) problem. I've unblocked, ran as administrator, tried from the windows folder directly. Unzipped directly to the windows folder and everything else.

Is the only option to try and do a bootable USB install of the bios?

I turned off the firewall. I am running windows 7 x64.

I'm currently running 9c.08.00 and want raid ability....

Hopefully Demon can help me with his Kravis 0.17 fix... i cant find it

It will work. You have to run it from the windows folder. Try taking the files and putting them directly in the windows folder. RIGHT CLICK the files in the folder first and select unblock * * * windows blocks these files by default and if you dont right click all the files in the folder and chose unblock you will get the wdm init error.

Ok - I am retracting the above; my fan is working much harder.. I gotta' try and clean it. If that don't help, I am going to have to revert back to the old Bios :-(

    which doesn't seem like fun.

Does your notebook "not" take the same P-78 series as my 7811FX? I clicked on that link and it gave me the BIOS and I downloaded it successfully.

I don't know. All I know is I don't see this model computer (7805) in the list. And no bios downloads show up for me no matter what model I pick...

Well first I'm gonna go find out what bios I currently have, and then look for another download location I guess. If anyone can send me a link to the current bios for the Gateway FX 7805-u laptop (please make sure its the proper file and works for that laptop) that would be cool. Or email it to me grinaide AT yahoo DOT com

I checked the BIOS and I already have 9c.17.00 version. So maybe perhaps that's why no downloads show up in the BIOS section...

no, it is not auto detect. Unless you are running Win7 and have the reboot after sleep issue do not bother with bios versions above 9c.17.00 as they will by default raise the GPU idle temps.............................

how do i downgrade from 9.23 to 9.17 i think its the reason im having overheating problems and fps drops in games. btw i am a complete noob when it comes to computers so a noob friendly step by step guide would be super appreciated.

edit: wow literally all i did was click on a link provided by tanware in another thread and extracted the file, clicked setup and it updated to version 9.17 and booted for me. now i have version 9.17, thank you so much. i saw ppl talking about all this complicated stuff in downgrading i hope im fine? says i have version 9C.17.00 12/xx/2008

man i miss my fan being this quiet, ive had 9.23 for so long now and gaming my fps has dropped so much when the fan starts overworking, so happy

Hey TANWare you happen to have a working link to 9C.17.00 , i notice that my laptop runs much hotter since i updated to 9C.23. Also i got a few question i hope someone can answer. My laptop is P-7803H-CA its a model i don't see people talk about often , the native res on it is 1440x900 so i was wondering if i can swap in a 1900x1200 screen from higher P-78 models. Also if i downgrade to 9C.17.00 will it have issues detecting X9100 CPU when i got to install it?.

1,) yes other 1920x1200 screens from P78xx's should work
    2.) 9c.17.00 works fine with the x9100
3.) Search my posts (as the user above did), I host all the bios versions in a single zip

Thank for the reply great help you are. (Yoda), also while your at it does this laptop support 8gb 4x2 i have been hearing that it can't support it. Running at 8500 1066 works but not quite sure about 1333 10666, higher latency and a bit of a boost would be nice if 1333 is confirmed for this laptop memory specs.

I have a P-7811FX and I just put 2x4GB sticks of GSkill 10666 1333 and it seems to run just fine but I think it's still running at Frequency of 533 dual channel which I think is still only 1066 so unless someone can tell me us how to make it run at 1333 or 667 dual it may have been a waste of money.

    This Phoenix BIOS really sucks!

Hello I came here to personally thank you for this "IMV-026" bios. I have been struggling with overheating on my Gateway P-7805u FX. I had cleaned out the vents and everything, applied new heat paste/ heat pad to no avail but using this bios made my laptop run at 55 degrees up to 70 max at load where as before it was 70 at idle and 90 at full load with a lot of frame drops.

Got a few questions about a 7811fx. It currently has the firmware from IMV-026.zip on it which I believe is .08 but I am currently in the process of installing win7 on a shiny new ssd drive. I have heard that you need one of the newer firmwares for this.

Which firmware is required for this? I see that the .23 is the newest from the gateway or emachines sites. I do see that there is a .25 listed here in the latest zip that was posted. Which of these two will allow me to install Win 7?

Another thing I see as a common problem throughout the thread is overheating issues with the newer firmware. I have both cores running a cool 40C on the high end, and video running around 50C. I do not want to have much degradation in cooling and surely no where near these 100C temps I have seen reported.

So what are my options here to get Win 7 up and running with the newest and most efficient firmware possible? (do any of the firmwares have SLIC 2.1?)

running .17 and under will only require you to use the legacy 1394 driver. Otherwise all should work. Stay away from .25 as there was an issue and it was pulled. Running above .17 will give you a hot running GPU............

The reason was never publicly released. I believe there was someone who stated there was a bug thaat caused some instability but none was ever shown to my knowledge.

The .25 is still floating around just not on the official site..............

yeah i was looking for it, wanted to have the BIOS modder's take a look at it for the GPU fan speed stuff...

I use .23 because I find myself using a firewire device and sleep (so much faster then hibernate), my only issue with this firmware at all is the GPU fan speed (as in it doesnt kick on till 172F)!

Otherwise, with my new thermal paste and pads it idles WITHOUT the fan on at around 140F...

    Bump....
I really need some help as this has been going on for years now.
I'm still using my P-7811FX as my main rig, it's been really great for over 4 years now, I've upgraded it with a couple of SSD's and more RAM...

Anyway, the thing is once upon a time I upgraded the BIOS to .17
Since then, the boot screen takes over 10-15 seconds to display my physical drives (HDD's and the optical drive) whereas normally this would take 1-2 seconds with the previous bios version.

I wouldn't want to upgrade to a newer version an potentially face gpu overheating issues (though a new paste I just applied does terrific job at keeping the temps crazy low!) so if anyone has come across this issue before and/or has any suggestions I would be very happy to hear them.

    Thanks.

Edit: I forgot to say that there is another even more serious issue that I first noticed when upgrading to .17!!
3 out of 4 times I try to reboot the laptop the boot screen never appears (it just remains black) so I have to force-shut-down the thing. Normal Shut-down and then power-on procedures are still executed just fine, except of course for the above-mentioned issue with the 10-15sec delay when booting up from being completely shut down. (the funny thing is, if a reboot is successful then the boot screen appears within 1-2 seconds as usual. I know some hard-drives have to spin-up but I'm just using ssd's now (so the boot screen has to read the ssd's, the ram and the dvd-rw, so there's no reason why the delay occurs except maybe a buggy bios version?)

Check your bios settings for a "quick boot" or "fast boot" option. Turn that on.

Sorry for the late reply, I am on a trip to Germany!
Well, there is no such option in my .17 BIOS.
There's only the boot priority menu in the Boot tab and a "Quiet Boot" option in another tab which (from what it says) simply doesn't display the boot screen while booting.
I've never messed with that anyway.
If it isn't .17 bios-oriented, my issue could be due to the fact that I have 2 hdd's installed (one being an ssd). But I am pretty sure I first encountered this issue long before adding a 2nd hard drive, because I updated the bios much earlier...
    Any other suggestions?

With .17 and above the drives for SATA, that is both HDD's and DVD. Also if you have legacy USB enabled then the devices there can hang you up a bit too..................
