Hi. I'm having problem with my 6864fx x64 webcam after I do a full install of windows 7. I went to gateway website and download vista webcam driver since there is no windows 7 driver for it and hope it will work, but it didn't. It keeps asking me to turn on the webcam. Is there a button that you can turn it on?
Edit: if anyone get the webcam to work in windows 7, could you please give me the link to download the right driver please. thanks

Hey guys my 6862 was overheating ALL the time, so I was going to install new (mobility modded) drivers of catalyst 9.7, well as soon as I uninstalled my old drivers, the whole thing was overheating constantly, and only lived long enough for me to get the mobility modded drivers up because I took off the bottom and stuck a table fan behind the laptop.
Well now things have been fine with a cooler and without a bottom, with freezes only happening in really graphics intensive situations (I was assuming they would completely go away if I undervolted). Well I noted new drivers were available for this card in windows update.
I didn't download those, but out of curiosity, updated my (mobility modded) drivers with device manager. The driver from device manager is from 6/25/09 and the driver the windows update is giving me is from 7/26/09.
Well there's also catalyst 9.11 out since november, so I don't know whether to roll back to my old mobility modded driver, keep the one from device manager, get the one from windows update, or get catalyst 9.11 . I'm treading carefully, in fear of the disaster scenario which occurred when I uninstalled my ati drivers, I really want to avoid that...

I was just wondering if anyone would be able to take a picture of their m6862 fan and the wires that attach to it.
My fan wires broke off from the actual fan part, and i want to solder them back on but i'm unsure of the order and placement of them.
if anyone could take a picture of their fan and where the wires attack/ order and upload it somewhere, i'd greatly appreciate it. thanks! -
I bought my m-6862 in August, 2008, and needed to replace its mobo twice over the next 9 months. But after getting the second mobo, this machine has worked quite well. I upgraded the hdd to a 320g scorpio running at 7200rpm. Otherwise, it's alll original equipment. I finally upgraded to cats 10.3s as they finally released some drivers for these mobile radeons.
Anyway, home sick, bored, saw this link, and thought I'd upgrade its status. I still think this was a terrific laptop, the two replaced mobos (covered by Best Buy) notwithstanding. -
Still got the same laptop, still working great, but I use an ipad a lot now. So this gets less use now, but still running quite well. I love the fact that the vista 64 bit OS has been rock-solid stable from day one.

Ok, to get this laptop to stop overheating, get the mobility modded drivers for your video card. Also, I had to remove a peice of RAM b/c it was malfunctioning, so you may want to try that too. Right now its NOT overheating withOUT the mobility drivers (crazy!) and no cooler, all because I removed that RAM piece and upgraded to windows 7.
But I don't play games on this computer anymore, and it does overheat eventually, if you want it to be virtually overheat proof, take off the bottom with the fan, put it on a good cooler, get the mobility modded driver for your video card, and as a bonus you could upgrade to windows 7 for an operating system that doesn't tax your computer to hell. -
everyone who has overheating problems has put thermal paste on right? Its like $5 and will fix all of your problems. My temps went down like 20 degrees celsius on cpu and gpu.

Hi folks,
I have been able to connect to my friends wireless network via my MAC code ... that is what he uses ... until a month ago, that I got disconnected ... and we checked his Router and my MAC code still was in there ...
His network runs on Windows XP SP3 and my laptop is Gateway M-6862 with Vista Home Premium, X64, SP2 with all the updates and patches applied.
So, I did ipconfig/all when it was working and i saw what it allocates for gateway and what not. Then ipconfig/all it when it disconnected by itself ... and it is giving me an IP of 169.254.xx.xx with
DNS Servers . . . . . . . . . . . : fec0:0:0:ffff::1%1
fec0:0:0:ffff::2%1
fec0:0:0:ffff::3%1
I have searched and searched and knocked my head on the wall many times ... the best answer that I have found and it has NOT fixed my problem is that VISTA stinks ... it is Vista problem with IP and DHCP and what not.
Q: Can anyone shed any light on what to do.
I am also considering resetting my laptop ... meaning doing a FRESH Install from Drive D:/
So, has anyone else had this type of a problem!
Thanks,
G! -
Has anyone looked into modding the phoenix bios to unlock voltage settings or anything like that? My M-6827 is extremely limited in the bios. You literally can't adjust anything. I want some extended options. I'd like to know how to lower my minimum x6 multiplier voltage below 0.950V.

I know this might be late in asking but what is the latest CPU that the M-6862 be upgraded to?

Its March 2014. Anyone still using there's? If not, tell us what happened!
Recently started using mine again. Went to Windows 8.1 and started using a SSD.
Removing dust from heatsink and reapplying thermal paste really helped with temps.. -
I see somebody revived this old thread in March 2014 ... so here it goes, my Gateway M-6862 is giving me Wireless Connectivity problem I get Blue-Screen of death and I get the following message ...
"Download update for Intel wireless software
Intel Corporation has released a newer version of Intel wireless software that includes improvements that might solve the problem you experienced.
Click to go online to download and install the Intel Driver Update Utility
Note
Intel(R) PRO/Wireless 2100 Network Connection is no longer being manufactured by Intel Corporation.
For more information, go online to the Intel Corporation website:
Intel(R) PRO/Wireless 2100 Network Connection is no longer being manufactured by Intel Corporation
If your computer uses Intel(R) PRO/Wireless 2100 Network Connection, you'll need to update Intel(R) PRO/Wireless 2100 Network Connection directly from the Intel Download Center:"
Well, I go to the website and I can Not find any drivers.
But from Device Manager I see I have "Intel Wireless WIFI Link 4965AGN" for my wireless hardware ... so, I am confused by Error message by Microsoft Windows.
Q: does anyone have Newer Wireless drivers for this old laptop?
Thanks,
G! -
