The answer is that it depends on the store manager. Officially, Best Buy doesn't match promotions, even if they are promotions they're running on their own website. So you can ask at your store, but unless the manager on duty is in an excellent mood, don't expect a free game. And yes, it is quite stupid, especially when you make the argument that you could just buy online and pick it up in the store, but speaking with nearly 7 years experience of working for them, Best Buy managers are rarely hired for their common sense.

Lol, fair enough, thank you. I did take advantage of the open box policy on PC accessories.I bought a razor gaming keyboard, and a matching mouse for half price. :)

I jsut bought my 6860. Its great! Ok, for the game deal, tehy are stupid... I had to do this. Go to the store, order it online, for instore pickup, that way you get the computer and free game.

Then you go to customer support to pick it up, and they say, uhh that can take up to a day before the order gets processed. The guy will look awfully confused. Then he got the equipment I ordered, gave me the game for free and told me to go home and call best buy to cancle the online order (or you can just wait 8 days and it will auto cancle). TaDa I have the computer and crysis for free! (havent played it yet).

Anyone have and good (cheap) cases/sleeves reccomended for this machine? I didnt see any at bestbuy that i liked and were <$80. The battery sticks out the back a bit too, so i am afraid to get one without seeing it (or having someone else reccomend it).

    Thanks for any assistance.

We need to start a 6860FX owners thread too....

    Rick

For a good back back try Slappa, google for a good price, I found this deal, it is probably ver 1 of this backpack, I have both ver 1 and ver2 , they are both nice, but ver 2 will set you back $99.99

    Ver 1 $37.20

    http://www.priceparts.com/-item/26268/slappa-velocity-pro-spyder.html?r161

Made out of scuba gear like material (nice)

    Ver 2

    http://www.slappa.com/velocity-spyder-laptop-backpack

Made out of stronger material more sturdy kinda like a rubbery outside.

Both bags will last a long time I am sure.

yep, had that happen a few times.

did you try "update driver software"
    then click "browse my computer"
then click "let me pick from a list"
    then click "have disk"
    then click "browse"
go to folder with inf file in it.
    then click inf file
    click open
    click ok
(it should show a 8800m gts)
highlight correct card then click next

if a red highlighted box appears, then your on the right track, if not...then driver will not install.

    give this a try..

i have a few more things you can try if that doesnt work.

I got the free game deal by simply showing them the ad that said "Free Game with a new 6860!" Crysis is fun, espically when its free!

that install was for a 32 bit 174.93 driver

running 169.09 drivers for over clocking test and gaming performance. (32 bit)

going to get back to some updated drivers today. 174's didn't seem stable over clocking past 610/880. they would crash or card would slow down, but i have a few new tricks up my sleeve so i'll give those 20 drivers another go. lol

sweet, let me know, I am not OCing, so I will stick with the 174.74 32bit, I have had no problems so far, but I need to upgrade my P-6080 fx (which I traded my wife for her P-171x fx :) )

yeah, it was fun, especially the first two thirds of the game, the last third was much more linear, and while it was fun, i liked the open ended gameplay a bit more. Not to get off topic but, this will also be the last Crysis built for PC only, all the rest of Crytek's games will now be multiplat, which probably means the game won't be built around the PC.

wow, you have the perfect machine for gaming too. I've installed about 15 games on this badboy, including Crysis, and they're all running amazingly well, not one problem or hiccup. At least you'll know that you always have the option.

I wonder how much of a difference on my P-171x fx with a 2.4 cpu? Maybe I'll buy it and put my 2.4 cpu in my son's P-6831 :)

x9000 is an unlocked chip. now what that means to us is....when they get around to updating the bios to accept 3.2 as an over clock. you will be ready.

temps stay low with this chip..even running intensive graphics app's and a longer battery life, if your not gaming. still cant get the voltage below 1.063 though. if i could...wooohooo

Hey flynnaz, I followed these instructions and got the 174.74 drivers to install on my 6860. When I chose the modded .inf, I didn't see the 8800M GTS listed. I ended up copying the nvgm.inf from the "original_inf(s)" folder into the main folder and chose it when I installed the driver.

    Thanks john.

So you installed the driver without the moded inf in the end using the above instructions? If that is true, that is cool, thanks.

I have a question regarding the free game offer Bestbuy.com has when purchasing a P-6860FX laptop. Does anyone know if you can choose a $49.99 pre-order (Spore) with this offer or do you HAVE to choose a game that is currently available?

I just finished installing Ubuntu 8.04 (64 bit version) on my 6860, the installation was very painless. The only problem I have is with the display adapter, which wont let me go above 800x600 resolution. The wireless adapter, bluetooth, sound, the touchpad all work great. :D

I repartitioned my hard drive so vista is on half and ubuntu is on the other half. I only use vista for gaming and a couple of graphics applications, I mainly will be using Ubuntu. Just thought someone else might be interested in how the installation went.

Here is the driver fix, im now running at 1440x900 resolution and it all looks great.
