Yes, I'm aware of this, having worked at Best Buy during college. That comment was directed toward the person that said they called Gateway and was told it was better to buy from them rather than from Best Buy.

Thanks Caliban and Melchior for responding to my question regarding purchases at BBY or direct from Gateway. The rep was quite annoying, when I first asked him the question his immediate response was "Oh, only price shoppers got to retail like BBY, and used price shopping like it was a dirty word, then he went into the song and dance about no restore disk Etc., anyway thanks to everybody for your comments.

The prices dont go into affect till early morning tomorrow. usually around 700am eastern time atleast from my experience. if you search fatwallet.com and look for next weeks bestbuy ads you can find the sales going on . the 6860 is on there for $1249 or $1299 with free game plus the Geeksquad cleanup.

Woot. I just checked and noticed that the 6860 was on sale this morning. I was going to buy it last night, but something made me wait. Glad I did. Unfortuantly I have to wait, I have to have it shipped, I can't pick it up like alot of other lucky people...sob .

Now its time to order me a T8300.

Bought mine friday at BB for $1349.99 and it was tax free weekend but by today they were down to $1249.99 or $1299.99 with a free game. I went and got my $100 back which they gave in cash and bought a 1 year accidental warranty for it. Just bought Crysis and a bag for it as well. Loving it so far.

anyone know whether this is shipping with 32-bit or 64-bit Vista? BB didn't mention, but I wonder if all 4GB ram would shot up in 32-bit.

edit: NM, first review on the bb website said it was 64-bit

made a backup of the contents on the one partition, wiped the harddrive and installed a clean version of Vista 32. Was going to put 64 on it, and it's nice that it came with it, but I don't want to take the chance with drivers or other compatibility issues.

Has anyone had any harddrive/Vista issues? After some heavy usage over the weekend, installing over 100 gigs, something got corrupted and Vista would hang right before the desktop would appear, and then reboot over and over in a cycle. Not sure what happened. So yesterday I wiped again, formatted, and reinstalled everything. I'm now a bit scared that I have a bad harddrive, but if it was, wouldn't it just fail completely? I'm guessing something got screwy with Vista, hopefully.

btw, i found the software backup on the one partition pretty useless. After formatting and getting rid of the partition, I put the intel 4965 driver on my thumbdrive, installed it, logged onto my network, and had Vista download all my other drivers with the latest versions. The only driver I had to download from Gateway was the modem driver for HD audio, and that's it. Has everyone else gone through this as well?

NOOdi13s, Which P FX series are you trying to install 64bit onto? I what to try it on my P-171x fx, I am wondering about the fingerprint reader, that is the only component that is different from the P-6080 fx.

You pay 50.00 for the game and a geek squad tune up, the game is not free. It says they update the video and audio drivers, what is there to update, they woun't use the laptopvideo2go.com drivers, and there is no audio driver update that I know of. I just bought mine for $1,249.99 pluse Crysis $39.99 Total $1,289.98 and I did not need to wait for the geek squad (2 hours)

would you mind describing the backup process further, and or where to go to get all the correct drivers for this laptop?

The backup process in in the book that comes with the laptop, its the smaller book, and the instructions are about 3/4 of the way back. If you goto Start, All Programs, I think Gateway restore, pick the bottom option, backup the drivers and apps, then pick create a full system backup, it makes a dvd or cd image you will need a blank DVD. I did fresh installs withe the Gateway system disk, then looked in device manager for the componits that had missing drivers, used the backup apps/driver dvd that I made, and also got the latest drivers from gateway.com support site.

I just used my Driver backup, after a failed attempt to install a new video driver. I can not figure out how to install a moded video driver, the instructions look easy, but I can not get it to work. I installed 174.74 xfastest drivers no problem on my 32bit lappys but my 64bit, im lost :(

I extracted the main file, then took the modded inf file and put it in the newly extracted file, ran the setup file in that folder, and it does not install the driver, it starts too, but at the end it says no modifications have been made?
