I want to buy the laptop and free game but Im not interested in the "make business" for Geek Squad for another $50 for a total of $1299. I can order the laptop and game online and pick it up for $1250 however if I do that I can't take advantage of the 2 years no interest (I always pay these purchases off on time so not an issue for me) offer on all store purchases $999 and up.

So is the optimization forced down our throats when buying in stores? Ideas?

Well, they can't make you buy anything you don't want. You have the right to refuse to purchase something that they want to add on. If they refuse, ask for their manager. After that, I am sure the issue will be quickly resolved. Good luck! :)

Sounds like a headache. ;) Would it be easier to order online and pick it up and have customer service just change it to the 2year 0% deal or would that be an issue? Just trying to see if theres a simple way to go about this.

Oh well I'm anxious to get it so I'm going to go ahead and go and see what they say.

I bought mine yesterday and got a free game, and $69 for a version of Vista Ultimate (which I'll use on my XP desktop I use for work, since I have to have remote-desktop connection for work, and its only available in Vista Ultimate or XP Pro).

Anyway, they had to enter a SKU for the game so it'd be free, but I didn't have to do anything or let the Geeksquad touch the laptop

    P-6860FX $1249
    Ultimate upgrd $69
    Gears of War $0
    ----------------------------------
    Total price $1319 + tax

Not bad for my first laptop. I have a desktop that's still my main gaming PC, but this gives me a mobile gaming option so I'm happy.

The guy at Best Buy said Gateway would charge me $49 for the recovery CD if I need to reinstall windows. I had read that there is one in the box, and that there's the recovery partition, so I wasn't getting it. But I asked him about the recovery partition, he just tried to dismiss it like, "Oh, yeah you can do that but you'll want a disk and Gate will charge you $49. For the same $49 we'll give you a recover disk and optimize your PC for gaming." *rolleyes*
