    virtualclone? Do you mean http://www.slysoft.com/en/virtual-clonedrive.html?
    I'm not using that...

Btw, I used OEM Nvidia drivers, Nvidia Beta driver breaks the Win 7 up...

Yea...unfortunately now that BB has raised the price...the 'original price' of $1049 doesn't really apply any longer. ( economics... )

    Thanks...

Now all the early adopters can feel really good. 1050 price and the accidential 1920x1200 screen. I heck of a deal.

Still though at 1150 is still cheaper than i got my 6860 for and has decently better specs than the 6860 did at base so its still a great deal (just not as good as the original)

    I don't understand what's wrong with my 7805u.

I applied the exact same settings and my average fps comes out to be 8. Just "8." When I turn down every single option to lowest, I still get barely playable.

The ONLY difference is that I am using the official drivers rather than the DOX ones.....

    Ugh. I don't know.

    Last year: FX68xx at $$1350 all sold out. ( 1.6x GHz, 1440x900, Nv 8800 )
    This year: FX7805 at $$1150 for way better specs. ( 2.2x GHz, 1900x1200, Nv 9800 )
Next year: FX?? at <$$1000? for even better specs?

Yeah i cant wait for the next refresh. Should be the nehelam chipset

I'm hoping somewhere in the range of:
    2.6gHz quad, 1440x900(or) 1920x1200, ati 4850 or 4870. $1250.00-1500.00

That would be nice. Upgrade to the extreme quad (hoping for 3.0+ clocks) and roll :p

So how many people got the extended warranty for $200 - $350. Still cant decide if its truly worth the cost. Is Gateways own CS good?

I did, but i travel alot so i wanted the "just in case" protection of a full replacement should anything happen.

If you just sit it at a desk and never/rarely move it then the warrenty is less of a good deal

Gateways CS is kinda lame... nice people, but mostly ignorant of the issues that computers (let alone gateways own products) have.

Well you could just get accidental at safeware or I think the name is safe trade...One doesn't cover theft and of course that's the one I can't think of :D. But what I really want to get is the BB one where I can drop it in 2.5 years and get a new laptop :O

Yep, I have a refurb 7811 and will hold out until Gateway comes out with a refresh with another wuxga screen. I was tempted by the 7805 but it really wasn't that big of jump and now the wxga+ has saved me from myself. My money will be better spent on a larger jump - hopefully a quad core with wuxga+ led backlit lcd :)

I went to the bestbuy in clovis, ca and they did have the 1920x1200 model on the floor. I got to thinking that I'll just stick with the 1440x900 because the laptop is not for me, I'm getting it for the parents. I saw the 1920x1200 and I think the resolution is too small for them.

This is a very good laptop spec wise, but with the risk of overheating issues etc I would probably get a more standard laptop for your parents. I see the 7805 and the FX series as made for enthusiasts and a bit 'not ready for prime time". If they don't need the capabilites I would seriously look at lighter, cheaper, smaller models with better battery life.

My wife has a P-6860fx, and she likes the 1440x900, so I just its a personal preference thing, I bet most people (outside of this site) wouldn't even notice or care.

I'm the same way. For gaming i want 1440x900. Its less stress on the GPU?CPU and i can increase all the little extras (shadows and lighting and AA) at less of a hit to frame rate.

For working on things i want the 1920x1200 (or 3 screens of 1920x1200) so i can veiw massive amounts of documents with out min/maxing them all the time.

1920x1200 just isnt that great of a gaming res unless you have a major GPU kicking... and the 8800gts/9800gts is not a major GPU. Good but not enough to justify 1920x1200 res for gaming.

Anyone who really wants a good screen res, buy a 22" monitor for around $200.00, you still got a great deal on a computer, and if you goto a lan, I am sure you can deal with a great looking 1400x900.

Picked one up yesterday in NJ. Batch #I002718. I got caught up in all the hype that I am having buyer's regret. Not sure if I need it but the laptop specs just made it too good to pass up. The box is just sitting there calling me to open it! What to do!!! If laptop was better than my current desktop it would've been cracked open already!

I have a question if any of you have experienced this. I bought this laptop on 1/5 and got it on 1/8. worked fine for 2 days and then when i run it my screen goes completely white when im in 1900 res. If i close the lcd and open it it works fine again, then a little while later does the same thing. I have hooked up another monitor to my laptop and when the laptop goes white the other monitor doesnt.

So i was figuring it mabye just the cable that connects to the lcd panel on the laptop. But it seems when i knocked my res down to 1400 and run it it works fine. been working now for about a day with no white screen.

I was wondering if anyone else has had this problem?

You can always send it to me, i've got a shiney new nickle i can give you for it :p

Honestly if you dont want it take it back. No use in having a product you dont need/want. As long as you havent opened it you get all your money back.

And if in the end you want it then you have a great spec laptop for cheap

I've always just used one account. Multipule accounts are just weird unless more than one person uses the computer, or your really bad with computers so want a second non-privilged account so you cant screw anything up

Hmm not so sure at the present moment. This machine is running everything maxed except crysis and GTAIV, at 1920x1200. So WXGA+ would be a better native for gaming in the future, but not right now.

I only use one, but haven't found a need to have two for myself.

Try updating to the same Dox's, see what happens.

The 1GB is a gimmick really, the 9800M GTS is 258bit.
258bit = it can only use up to 512MB VRAM. So no matter if it had 1TB of VRAM, it wouldn't be able to use it. So the 512MB and 1GB 9800M GTS's are basically the same

Nice, So how're you guys getting 92xx benchmarks in vista and the most i can get is 87xx? What do you guys get without the overclock in vista?

Thanks, but there isn't any Costco's in a 50mile radius from my town :\

    Thanks,
    http://www.amazon.com/s/?ie=UTF8&ke...aps&hvadid=17791828511&ref=pd_sl_5ll5jmwosf_b
Which one of those are the one your talking about? Also which cloth do you use for it? the microfiber, chamois, or the finer chamois? Or all of them?

OK, so in the end the big huge difference between the G50VT and the Gateway is a slightly bigger screen, Gateway's heftier build and not much else. And a $100 cheaper on the G50VT...

I was caught up in the excitement of the Gateway, but now I'm swinging back to the G50vt.

No offense, but that Klear Screen stuff looks like the "Monster Cable" of cleaners (over-engineered, and embarassingly overpriced). Just as MC is now proven to be nothing better than $5 cables in most cases, you really don't need $20 cleaner and "micro" clothes! Micro? For 20 bucks, I want a whole SHEET of cloths!!!

Anyways, to each their own, but you can buy normal microfilber cloths anywhere (walmart, etc) in big packs, and any good aerosol glass cleaner that is non-ammonia, non-alcohol, and for about the same price you get a big pack of cloths and a big can or two of this Sprayway Glass cleaner, available most places.

The important factor is microfiber cloths. They don't scratch anything. And then, a good cleaner that is safe on anything. The above items are proven safe by me for years on anything electronic or around the house.

You talking about nVida Control Panel or is nVida System Tools something I have to download?
And what're you saying use it for? Overclocking ?

    Thanks for the link.

EDIT: Nevermind, found the Nvidia System Tools.
What overclocks do you find most stable? (I know it varies from each system but would like to know a zone I should go for)
My father has an eye-glasses cleaning kit with a cloth and a spray. Would that work or should I just buy everything?

@lancorp, no offense taken. It was on the way to the counter at Frys, ha ha, thats how I ended up with them. :) But the chamois they have is the really good kind. The Microfiber, not so much...I've had microfiber for my Camera equipment and my car that's better.

A cloth that cleans lenses are probably good, but you shouldn't interchange their use...like start using on your laptop...then later use them on glasses... buy some for exclusive use on your laptop I guess. I use eclipse pads on my camera filters and lenses, and they are really good but not reusable.

Ok I haven't seen the memory address system but if 32 bit memory address in a PC allows a bit more then 3 gigs then I would think 256 bit would be quite a bit larger.

Even the older/lower end GPU's sharing memory could reserve more than 1 gig of memory so there is something wrong here with your math.............

    EDIT:
Now to get programers willing to use the memory and loose performance/compatability on the older and low end cards..............

    Uhm... Do some research bro.
With VRAM, whatever the bit is, multiply that by 2 and that is your max VRAM usage.
256 x 2 = 512. Thats your MAX Vram usage with a 256bit interface card no matter what anyone "thinks" they're using.

    Let's see now 2 to the 256 power = 115,792,089,237,316,195,423,570,985,008,687,907,853,269,984,665,640,564,039,457,584,007,913,129,639,936

That might be the U.S. Federal deficit but not addressable VRAM, hmmm.

Sorry to hear that. How long have you had it? I'd try my luck by taking it to bestbuy to exchange it if it hasn't been 14days.
Chances are gateway may put the WXGA+ screen in it.
So see if you can find a WUXGA+ at bestbuy to exchange. If not, good luck bro.

Windows reads space differently than the harddrive manufacturers, so it'll always show up less than what the drive says it is. Don't worry, the space is there, its not "missing".

Guys I am still debating on whether or not to get the Best Buy plan..I don't think there is any theft protection. Is there? I think I won't if there isn't, though I guess I would still be saving money if I got lo-jack on this(if I can).

I didn’t get the bestbuy warranty, Gateway gives you a year by that time better notebooks will be available and I don’t plan on lugging it around to much so I don’t need the added protection plan. Did you guys notice when you registered with gateway they didn’t have the P-7805u to select I just selected the P-7801u hopefully that will do, don’t know.

I spent the same, got the 3yr accidental warranty for $350 so it came out to $1500. I also get a battery replacement so I will try and remember to use that before the 3yr. I usually get accidental warranty when I buy electronics, to me its worth it. I used them before and they work out great. Something portable, parents, lil bro and sis would equal some type of accidental damage. I am tempted to get this for myself but I don't need a laptop.

Are you looking at just the windows partition or the entire capacity of the disk including the recovery partition? The recovery partition is pretty substantial and you lose quite a bit of space to the file allocation tables etc when the drive is formatted.

If its a 320gb hard drive, that means 320 billion bytes. When formatted, you end up with about 298gb, I believe there is a hidden recovery partition of about 10gb. Thats probably why it shows up as 288gb

    320,000,000,000 bytes
divided by 1024 megabytes to a gigabyte
divided by 1024 kilobytes to a megabyte
divided by 1024 bytes to a kilobyte
    = 298.02 gigabytes

They advertise hard drives by declaring a gigabyte as 1 billion bytes, but to a computer, a gigabyte is actually 1,073,741,824 bytes

Thats why they show up smaller.

I believe that the 1 billion bytes to a gigabyte is officially the true "Gigabyte" whereas the 1,073,741,824 bytes to a gigabyte is actually called a "Gibibyte" short for giga binary byte referring to the fact that it is 2 ^ 30 bytes

Buncha techno mumbo jumbo is what it is :D And post 1500 to boot!
