The kensington AC adaptor is two prong non polarized 120 or 240v input
-
Thanks a lot
, think I will buy this, that hard case someone mentioned and I just gotta find a cheap cooler(under 40 hopefully :/)
-
I bought 3 kensington adapters... 1 for me, 2 for my sisters... really good deal considering that these goes $100+++ brand new

I'm about to hook it up to my Gateway FDP2185w 21" LCD monitor (1680 x 1050 native) as soon as I find a DB-15 cord somewhere in this house. The 9800M gts will get me close with 1600 x 1024. I've had the monitor hooked to a desktop using a DVI connection from an old nVidia gForce FX 5700 Ultra. My 7805u came with the LG at 1920x1200, but I like my screen larger and at a distance.
-
I actually think my Samsung 22" WS at 1680x1050 looks blocky after using this thing, lol.

Skip to the bottom for the summary of how to get the "Disable internal pointing device when external USB pointing device is attached" checkbox in the Synaptics 10.2.4 driver.
I uninstalled the 10.2.4 driver, rebooted, then extracted this old one exactly as it says to (per the readme) and ran setup.exe. It failed with "Could not find OS specific setup program". Then I read the readme and made sure it was extracted to c:\cabs exactly as specified. Still got the same error. THEN I ran the setup in WDF\x64... it finally worked (it didn't seem to want to at first).
Very strange, that. Either way, it finally installed... and it works, with no nags about being an eval version, as v9.1.17, and it has the handy disable checkbox.
Next, I upgraded to the original 10.2.4 version. It complained that I should uninstall the other one but I didn't (lest I lose the registry settings). Was taking forever to shut down (not sure why but perhaps it's related), so I finally power-cycled it. At this point there was much cheering, because the "disable" checkbox was *still* present!
I saved registry snapshots at each step, and figured out which keys where having the desired effect. I uninstalled (clears the relevant registry trees) and then reinstalled 10.2.4 again. No checkbox as expected. Then I applied the registry changes, rebooted (important) and the checkbox was available again!
And so, here are the two little keys that seem to make all the difference. Create them, reboot, and you should have a fully functional "Disable internal pointing device when external USB pointing device is attached" checkbox in the Synaptics Mouse properties "Device Settings" tab. Note that I didn't try them independently, either both were there or neither was there:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Synaptics\SynTPEnh]
"DisableIntPDFeature"=dword:00000002
"ShowDisableIcon"=dword:00000001
General disclaimer: As always, be very careful editing your registry. -
Thanks for that! Helps a bunch. I couldn't tell from the photos online what the plug was like.
-
Hmm..well I was gonna get a hardcase( http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834995348) but people are telling me I should just get a soft case, seeing as the jar will shake up the laptop and perhaps be worse than if I had a soft case and had that great cushioning...should I shop around for a soft case instead?
-
Try updating your drivers to the same as mine. See what happens.
I PMed Xens for you. -
How do I make these changes in my registry?
-
type regedit into the Start--->run box and hit ctrl+f and type HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Synaptics\SynTPEnh in there so you dont have to spend forever looking for it.
-
once I get their how do I enter the information?
-
Picked mine up today, batch number I008982. Mine does not have the 1920x1200 res, only the 1440x900. Does anyone know if a driver update would allow the higher res. Also I got a 3 year protection plan for $350 but I saw on BestBuy website that the 2 year is $200 so wouldn't the 3 year be $300? Did I get more than a accidental protection plan? If so could I change my protection plan?
Thanks -
right click on the keyword and click modify.
-
Unfortunately based on your batch number there is nothing you can do. Your screen is 1440x900 native so no driver can help you. And as far as the protection plan, you must've gotten something extra/special. I am sure you can go to Best Buy and change the protection plan if need be and ask what the difference is.
-
Use Qword (64-bit value) ? then modify, change the value, correct?
*Update*
I just copied the reg entry while the old driver was installed, uninstalled the old driver, reboot, then installed the new driver, applied the reg entry from the old driver, and it worked
thx +Rep
-
are you manually putting the values in there? if not, you should just right click on the string ID i.e. "DisableIntPDFeature" and "ShowDisableIcon" and then click modify....
or instead of doing it this way...take a look at this thread and download the driver. thats what i did and it works perfectly. -
Go back to Best Buy and check the showroom demo model screen resolution, if it's 1920 x 1200, tell the manager you were expecting the same thing (and you don't know nothing 'bout no stinkin WXGA/WUXGA/WSXGA+...).
If they don't have a the high rez screen version tell 'em you'll take the showroom model at a 25% discount and be sure to have him give you the proper rate on the extended warranty/damage insurance for laptops $999 and under, otherwise you will complain publicly to your local TV station consumer fraud reporter about the obvious "bait-n-switch"!
In fact, tell the manager to take your "low rez" model and make that the show room demo so BB isn't misrepresenting the capabilities any longer.
PS checkout Rossman26 's post 1355 he is/was in the same predicament as you, and, he got a different BB to exchange his low rez for a high rez model!!! -
He initially wouldn't have the wrong rate though if he got the plan with accidental damage coverage (a step-up from the lowest plan, I forget the names) since at $1049.99 the price is $349.99 for that coverage.
-
Semi -- Thx a lot...Really appreciate it. *thumbs up*
-
the price was back at $1149... yesterday it was on $1049...
-
Just installed Windows 7 64bit.
So it's safe to assume WEI goes up to 10.0 now? or 9.9 he he
Very nice, MS... -1% CPU.
Cons so far:
VirtualCloneDisc and E-SATA... arrgh.
DOX Nvidia drivers.
And Networking suddenly dies for no apparent reason. -
I am sorry! Couldn't resist.
I started on page 1 and am on page 75 now when I saw this.
I am very interested in this laptop.
I have been searching for so long and bounced from Toshiba to Gateway when I saw this. I have a Gateway desktop and love it.

No problem bud, goodluck to both of you with the sale.
-
Dang, 7.9 for the GPU vs 5.9 on vista..
Also it says in the top of your image that its from 1.0 to 7.9.... -
Tch.. So it is back up to "Our Price: $1149".
Figures. Wonder what the true final price will be.
Question for you guys with experience with these FX's.
What do you use to clean the lid and palmrest area? Getting all fingerprints and I want to rid of them every night now lol Just don't know what to use to clean them.
Thanks. -
Yup, VGA drivers was hard to remove w/ DOX drivers, so I had to resort to Nvidia's laptop betas.
-
How're they working for you?
Did vista+dox run smoother or does nvida+win7 run smoother?
-
Am using Klear Screen. The one with the three types of towels (microfiber, chamois, and a smaller finer chamois.)
-
Everything works Fine here....except Daemon Tools for Installing >.>
Network does not crash at all. -
actually, the win7 + vga drivers were smoother ... than nvidia's beta drivers + vista on desktop alone. (but of course 3d hardware was disabled with them vga drivers).
Bench wise, I downclocked from 710/950/1750 to 700/900/1700 and still got 9264 3dmark06.... the con side though, I put back 710/950/1750 and only got 9281. he he, hmm. (scratch that just ran again without hw monitor in the background....a 9388.)
I'm still halfway through reinstalling everything... so far, no hiccups yet on software to run except Daemon. -
Yeah, that virtualclone thing is funky...especially with E-SATA... had to reboot several times since it jammed my e-sata drive from loading.
-
Not sure if you have a Costco where you live, but for everything electronic, I use the Costo spray (aerosol) glass cleaner (non-ammonia) and buy their 50-pack of yellow microfiber cloths.
I have used this combination for years in my computer business, and never once has it harmed anything, including cleaning LCD screens. The cloths are advertised that they won't scratch, and the spray cleaner can spray on light and foamy so it won't run.
Once a cloth starts to show it's dirty, I use a new one. The dirty ones are washed and relegated to cleaning around the house. -
guys, just a quick question on the Kensington slim adapter in the link below. Will this one plug into the wall or is it DC only??
http://shop3.frys.com/product/5729742 -
That one is DC only (car, plane, etc.)
-
That's what I thought. Does anyone have the link to the version that can be used in the house??
-
I bought a 7805u FX from Best Buy on Friday night. Batch number on the label is listed as I005562 and it has the 1920x1200 WUXGA screen. I downgraded to XPPro yesterday and found drivers for everything except the Conexant HD Audio and modem. If anyone knows which XP driver set would enable that, I would be eternally grateful.
EDIT: I did try the IDT_Audiov5939.zip driver set from Gateway (says "cannot located MEDIA" or something close). I did install the KB888111.exe and MS UAA packages, too. Tried the nForce HDAudio driver as well. Nothing I try seems to even be able to find the hardware. -
Quick question, the hd space is listed at 320, I have one drive (c:\) which is showing at 288GB (309,xxx,xxx bytes). I know that they can be off a little ,but that seems like its missing a bit? Is that normal?
-
Yea saw that this morning as well...though arguably $100 is not a deal breaker in the least.
I guess my question now (I'm planning on buying one in the next 3-4 days) is that if a 7805 with a batch number that is obviously still in the WUXGA group can't be had...is it worth buying a 'new sealed in box' one off eBay? (arguably there are a number out there that are within $100 bucks or so of the current $1149 BB price). Is the WUXGA vs. WXGA going to be that much of a difference to justify the possibility of no warranty situations (which really is the only possible con I see of buying a sealed e-bay model in the next week.) -
Vista 64, 700.900.1700 and released nVidia 179.28
-
BUY the G50! I just benched 9110 out of the box with power save mode off, on Performance mode.
-
BINGO i now own 3 brand new LG 1920x1200 version 7805U's
but I only need 1. Will sell the other two for $1200 each shipped.
(or Best Offer)
includes receipt... etc.. -
Replying to my own post.
Managed to get audio working under XPPro using
these instructions for the 7811. Maybe not the most elegant solution, but it works.
-
But one would assume the 1gb, newer Nvidia card in the Gateway would smoke that.
-
Not interested in 15.4", I am looking to upgrade the cpu, that seems to be a limiting factor here.
I really am not looking at the T series anymore as I'd like to stay away from 35w TPD. The P9600 looks the way to go with a 25w TPD and still 2.66 Ghz with all the cache of the T series. -
There aren't many at the $1249 price on ebay...alot of people are asking more, but there is one for $1199, which may or may not be cheaper than you could get one today at BB, including sales tax!
The seller lists the specs right off the box, so who knows which LCD it has...maybe email the seller and get the batch number?
In any case, the rest of the ebay p-7805's aren't that great a deal...just people looking to score some big profit. -
i got 3 LG versions 1920X1200
by the way.... what are the forum rules about listing items for sale?
-
Sorry lan...I wasn't specific in my question there. My question to everyone is what the diff between WXGA and WUXGA is really worth in the long run. Since the new batches of 7805u are currently coming out with WXGA's...is it worth dropping a few extra $100 to get the WUXGA screen in an older batch using eBay?
Buying one today (or in my case this week) at my local BB would cost $1250 with sales tax (give or take $5 or so). Currently there are 8 available on ebay within $100 of this - 5 of them are $1250 or less.
So...are we really talking that big of a difference between WUXGA and WXGA? -
Not allowed in these forums...there is a NBR forum just for buying and selling...
NBR Marketplace -
I think in the long run, people prefer WUXGA displays and it would certainly help the resale value of yours, should you ever decide to sell it.
But, WUXGA or WXGA+ is definitely a personal preference. So, if you want a WUXGA, then $1250 ($200 more than original BB price) is probably worth it, but isn't as good a deal any longer (obviously!).
