Damn my 6860 and it's 1440 x 900 resolution :(. It's ok though I could buy an LCD that supports that resolution and still have paid less... Love getting it on sale for $1099.

I do like the better RAM too though....

if you only paid 1099 then you can upgrade the system to at least that good of performance

If you want better RAM (knowing of course that the 1066 RAM is just marginally better than 667 RAM) then get CAS4 800mHz RAM. It will down clock to 667, and if everything goes right it should be CAS3 in 667 mode.

You wont really notice a difference, but it is a way to get superior RAM to the 7811

    Usually, no.

If you're smart about it, you'd get the warranty anyway, just to chuck it before it ends.

Just wait for it to go on sale. Sales take of more than a salesperson ever could.

I was wondering if this laptop supports FSB 800Mhz or just 1066Mhz and what Brand of the hard drive do i have to buy to make it Raid 0? People are saying that you need the same brand, spec and stuff! Please answer. Thanks :)

I would KILL for an 800Ghz bus!! :D

And brand of hard drive doesnt matter when using RAID on these machines. You dont even have to have the same size, although its generally recommended.

give the new guy a break. Giga-Hertz, Mega-Hertz theres only an order of magnitude of difference in the two number... nothing much :p

As to the question... why would you want to downgrade the RAM? 1066mHz ram is going to be better than the 800mHz. It will have a higher latency, but thats pretty much a non-issue thing.

As to the Hard drives... no idea. But you can always just ask best buy to pop open the panel and check.

And if you REALLY wanna know, the drives are most likely Seagate 7200.3's.

Wonder why they went away from WD drives... that kinda disappoints me. I really like Western Digital :(

Well, I *think* they used the Seagates only in the models using the 7200rpm drives. They must have gotten a better price for those.

Actually now that I think about it, does WD even make a 2.5 200gb 7200rpm??

Now you got me curious, so i had to try to find one.

and sadly enough WD doesn't make one. But they do make the really sweet 320gb 7200RPM drives :) But I'm curious about the samsung 400gb drive thats coming out next month. 200gb per platter |drool| Should be the fastest thing on the market for a while (assuming its not 400 dollars and no one buys it)

Indeed on both counts! The 320gb 7200rpm is one speedy piece and that 400gb drive should be even speedier! Im looking forward to seeing some benchmarks.

Not the Ram, and yes the processor. Causa i want to buy this notebook, and upgrade da hardrive (making it raid) and the processor to a Core2extreme X9000 that has a FSB 800Mhz! (Sorry about the ghz, when i saw it i couldnt edit my post).. Coming back to the question.. I Want to put a Core2extreme x9000 cause i cant find to buy a core2extreme x9100 that it has a FSB 1066. So if you know where i can buy this processor or fi you can informe me if this notebook supports FSB 800 processors..

    Thanks :p

Yes. The X9000 works fine in the 68xxFX series. Albeit at an 800mhz FSB, but its still blazing fast especially when overclocked to 3ghz.

I'm pretty sure there are a few things that are confusing here.

    1) X9100 is a Montevina

    2) There isn't any 86XX FX.

If you mean X9000 works fine in the 68XX FX series... then you'd be right.

I thought so. If it helps, I don't really understand GynPlayer.

However, I think he wants to put the X9000 in the 7811FX, which to answer his question, is impossible. The X9100 is also horribly expensive, even more so than the X9000.

    To make it simple

    6860FX + X9000 = (works)

    6860 FX + X9100 = (waste most $$)

    7811 FX + X9000 = (waste some $$)

    7811 FX + X9100 = (works best)

As the others have said (typo's not withstanding) you cant put an x9000 in the 7811...its completely incompatible. You will have to put the x9100 or x9300(i believe thats the correct number for the second extreme CPU) in the machine.

As to why you cant find it. Thats because its not out yet. It doesn't come out until mid august if i remember correctly. But While i understand the 7811 is a very nice rig... your looking to upgrade it with almost 1K worth of extra hardware. You could probably buy a better system for 2500 dollars. Are you sure this is the way to go. (though i do understand its easier to buy the "ultimate machine a few components at a time)

The Q9300/QX9300 is the quad. Which probably won't work in the 7811 FX.

    Or where can i buy a (CORE2EXTREME X9100 FSB 1066MHZ)

Yeah i know that one, but i was on Intel's site about 8 or 9 days ago and i could have sworn there was 2 separate "X" CPU's for the centrino 2 sets. I want to say it was an x9300 or x9200 or something like that. But now trying to find it i cant even find the page i was looking at. I might wasnt even supposed to be there as it was giving ALL of the tech specs and prices and everything.

    I'm NOT crazy
    :p :p :p

I'll keep looking to see if i can find it

I just did in my last post.
Paraphrased...it cant be done and the x9100 isnt out yet

dude...easy with the CAPS. you cannot put the x9000 into the 7811 as the x9000 was designed for the santa rosa chipset, not the montevina chipset in the 7811.

the x9100 should be available for high end gaming laptops around mid to late august, with the x9300 (2.53ghz quad-core mobile, 12 MB cache) available mid to late september.

    edit: i guess thats a quadruple simul-post.....lol

Dude i live in Brazil, i have already lived in the US, so note many things can be shipped from the US to here, wich is bull.... (But i have friends in the us who can send it to me) In Brazil i'm not even going to start talking about the price's here. I can get a P-7811XX and sell it for 2.3 time what's it worth in the US (So you get the idea). So i got a little bit of cash saved up, I just want the notebook and the processor, i'll buy the hard drive here. I'm not looking for them alienware machines. Way too expensive for me.

    THANKS :)

PS: Sorry about the CAPS, go easy on me! I'm new!
Thanks again for all the help!

    NO
That's the 3rd time. You waste some money because the X9000 is cheaper than the X9100. If you use the X9100 on the P6860FX, you waste more money than with the X9000 + 7811FX.

It appears you are right. Perhaps there's such a thing as oversimplification.
