Huh? The chip itself (the PM45) is a FCBGA (which is logical, since it is soldered. No chipset would be in pin form); this does not mean the CPU socket is ball grid (again, which is only used for soldering, not ZIF sockets)..

Of course! Brilliant observation! It must refer to the package of the mobo chipset itself and not to the supported processor packages as I wrongly interpreted (shame on me). I told the group English could sometimes play me dirty tricks... I'm sorry for the mistake.

Thank you for your sharp observation and for rebuilding our hopes on the possibility of future CPU upgrades for the P7811.

    Regards,

    Plinio.

Hey E-wrecked, what happened to your all-famed Toshiba? Remember, the one you so elegantly bragged about "smoking the 8800M GTS".

It did smoke the GTS.. however I think the gateway has a nicer keyboard. Oh, and the processor, and GPU, and screen, and easier to drop in a new CPU. On the downside, the GPU will never be upgraded. But otherwise, I'm all smiles! :D and don't be hatin' just cause I came to the other side. :p

You still have yet to show any benchmarks that prove it out-ran the GTS. I saw all of your benchmarks, and with a T7100 and an 8800M GTS, it scores higher than the setup you had. (You had a nicer CPU than the T7100)

Anyway, it's good you finally joined the dark side. :)

The p7350 isn't any nicer :p I think that's the weakest CPU for gamin you could possibly use. And literally, it is with the new chipset. Toshiba was stoopid by using that in their "Ultimate gaming machine". And I've admitted it before..I'll admit it again.. The gateway is the best bang for the buck when it comes to gaming right now. Just wish this x9100 would OC, it's such a waste to not allow the BIOS to take advantage. And no RAID.. thats my only 2 real complaints, otherwise this is the hotness. Maybe I'll swap for a 6860fx and drop a x9000 in it ;)

PS - that's why my x9100 is for sale in the BST Forum as barely used. :) *shameless plug*

Oh, okay, I was wondering why on earth you were selling that beastly CPU. It really won't OC? That's crazy for an Intel Extreme.

No the gateway chipset limits at 3.0, thats why there are so many X7800s, and not anything better.

the question is why did he bought it in the first place ?
since he claims an x9000 (which cost half) can work in his notebook.

I never claimed the x9000 would work in here.. But the x9000 will work in here. Now I've claimed it. Just as surely as the T7500(merom) works on the PM45 Chipset.

And I was unaware that the x9100 wouldn't OC cause of Gateways stoopid BIOS. Kinda like everyone was unaware that there's no RAID option. And no solution to either as of yet.

I suppose it's the classic american attitude that, "Bigger is better". And just like all those suckers driving gas guzzlers have been trying to get rid of 'em.. I'm trying to downsize as well. :)
