So I just got my brand new fx friday night and finally had some time to sit down with it today and play with it. Great machine and I love it. I got the 171x fx version btw. Anyway, my question is, no matter what external keyboard I try to use on it, it will not work. I have a zboard and a g15 and both say the drivers can not be installed. I am very much a beginner at this whole computer thing, so if I am missing something simple, please enlighten me. Thanks for reading and if I posted this in the wrong area, I am sorry.

I have the g15, it should just play n play, but you can download the software from logitech, install it, reboot with the keyboard pluged in and that should do it.

When I first got mine I had the same kind of problem, I opened device manager and found a yellow flag, one of the USB drivers was missing. It gave me "Cannot install driver" message when trying to install Deathadder and Belkin n52.

interesting. Ill plug it back in and reboot afterwards. Is there any kind of settings or keys I need to hit to let the laptop know to use the g15 and not the on board?

From what snowsurfer is saying it may have something to do with your your usb drivers, I would just call gateway, you pobubly just need to go into your control panel and right click on the yellow flag (if there is one) and update driver.

Well I am not very happy currently with gateways support. They blame the issue on the keyboard manufacturer. I would believe this if, I didnt try 4 different keyboards. Every keyboard I plug in, it says that the drivers are missing. However, I have already gone through and installed all the correct drivers. Gateway just passed the buck on this one and has earned themselves an unhappy customer thus far.

They just called me back and said that its most likely the keyboards I am trying to use are 1.1 and not 2.0 and that I would need specific drivers for these devices. They said they will research the issue and call me back. So its getting a little bit better. Atleast this guy that called was nice and treated me like a person lol.

Ok so the word is, I was missing a small windows update that was not showing up in the windows updater. After installing this update, my plug and play devices are working.
