Love the avatar Dook. Too many snug 7811FX threads. :D
    P.S.
HA! Maybe your bed is too hard! jk

Well I would have some temp readings but last time I tried the HW monitor it said it wasn't compatible with vista x64. Any good suggestions?

What scared me the most is when I opened the bag (yes that's bag) the processor box came in it was crushed almost flat. And I was like omg! And my face fell. I was angry, sad, disappointed, and frusterated at the same time. But I'm just glad it works now. :D
This will keep me happy for several days. Then I'll find something else to upgrade. I like upgrading. It keeps me interested in electronics. ;)

Newegg tends to do that with processors(If thats where you got it). Everything else is overpacked. Kinda backwards.

yeah, got it from newegg. The AS5 was packaged so good I actually had to get a knife to get to it. and the processor was so easy to get to fed-ex could have peeked in to see what it was and be like ohhh I could sell that on ebay. lol

Highest are still about the same. And I doubled my fps in Hellgate: London and I think the 177.83 drivers might be buggy with it because it would skip every 6-7 seconds even though I was getting at least 70 fps with almost everything maxed out.

Try .89. They seem to do well on my system. I get lower 3DM scores, but better game playability, which is really what matters.

So the 177.89 drivers work better in HGL? What settings are you using? With the stock drivers I found DX10 in native res with everything set highest to be way too boggy feeling. I haven't tried that res since upgrading the drivers to 177.79 last week. I've been running HGL at 1280x800, DX10 with everything high and it runs decently but not as smooth as I was hoping. If the 177.89 drivers make that big a difference, I'll have to pull them down...

I was using dx9. I'll do ten in a bit. And the HWM was running while I was gaming but it was only less than 5 min. I'm at work now so time to start testing this baby out. :D

I was just doing a test run with dx10 in Hellgate: London and omg something is seriously wrong. Just running high settings I was getting a max of 8 fps. Before I could get at least 30 if I remember correctly. Going to try to work on that issue now.

I had to put everything on low just to get decently playable settings. I might try out some new drivers in a couple min. Going to go down to a lower version.

I went all the way down to 174.82 and I can have everything almost maxed out with dx10. None of the 177 versions worked too well for me and I didn't try the 175 because I didn't like the way they looked for some reason. But I'm getting excellent playability with the 174. And to bring this back on topic, I had hwm running while gaming and the new max temps are 48 and 58. The 58 has got me a little concerned. Should I re-apply paste or is that acceptable?

Dang. I wouldn't like that to be my idle. Mine have pretty much idled at 34 and 38 respectively. I'll do more testing when I get back to work but for now I have to go to class.

58C is more than acceptable. Adding more paste will more than likely make things worse. The T9300 has a Thermal Specification of 105C and you are FAR from it. Don't let yourself get caught up in the whole temp obsession, just sit back and enjoy the fruits of your new CPU. :)

Thanks for the information. Was that by chance at the native res (1440x900)? If so, I may need to uninstall my 177.79 drivers and downgrade like you did. My only question is, have you been able to test it out with other games? Just wondering if the downgrade would adversely affect other titles...

I know crysis worked well with the newer drivers and so did jade empire i believe. fable gameplay is buttery smooth but the menus, trade and experiene screens lag a lot. I'm going to try the rest of them that i have with the downgraded drivers after i eat lunch(typing one handed as we speak ;) ) and they all were at the native (1440x900)

    running 174.82
    25-30 fps crysis medium
    24-40 fps hgl dx10 high-highest
    fable smooth menu better
    Avencast avg 45-50 maxed
    FEAR: Perseus Mandate-diagnostic
    min:15 avg:69 max:165
    3% below 25
    10% between 25 and 40
    83% above 40

besides the old diablo games those are the only ones I had on me at the time I have the original FEAR, Prey, and the Witcher at home if someone wants to know about those.

    left temp monitor going:

I forgot I had the orange box special. 150-200+ on half-life 2. And I don't know if it's just be but dx-10 overall has seemed really buggy to me. With hellgate: london it skips sometimes and if I sprint it skips period even though i'm getting about 30fps avg. It does seem to run ok on Crysis but I prefer dx9 on it because I get better fps and it still just seems smoother to me.

btw on the hwm, what are the TZS0 and TZS1 under ACPI (see screenshot above post#66 for ref)

Interesting, HGL also skips badly for me at 1440x900 under DX10, but if I go down to 1280x800 it plays reasonably smooth. I've only run around a station a bit, haven't jumped into a level (I usually play on my desktop, as gameplay is much smoother, I just like to have things working as well as possible on the laptop for when I have to go mobile)... ;)

I'll have to test in a level tonight and see how it performs while actually playing.

I normally don't like scaling down the resolution but I might try that. I just think that it runs soo much smoother with dx9.

It depends on the game, some have them in the video options menu. I know on crysis you add -dx9 to the end of the target section in the shortcut properties. What game is it for?

Any of you have Half-Life 2 Lost Coast and a T9300? Please run the video test with these settings:

All settings on high or max, hdr on, 1440x900 res, 4x msaa, 16x af, vsync disabled.

I get average ~60 fps at the end with my T5550 (1.83ghz).

Well, I ran HGL for quite a while tonight and 1280x800 is playable in DX9 and DX10 both. DX10 has settings lowered a bit, whereas DX9 has everything cranked up all the way. There is a little mouse lag with the DX9, but it's very playable at this setting. Not as smooth or purdy as on my desktop system, but quite impressive for a laptop and it'll do fine for when I'm mobile. DX10 felt a little less smooth then DX9, but was also playable. Threw me for a bit how the game automagically changes the resolution depending on what settings you select. I had to keep exiting the game, going back in, checking on the resolution, resetting it, etc. Quite a PITA. Fun game though and even at a slightly lower resolution, it looks great.

I'm using 177.79 still. I haven't tested other games yet, except for very light play. FEAR Combat, UT3 and CoD4 seemed decent at native res, all high settings and Oblivion played pretty good at native res, most things at about 75%.

I know my son played the single player of CoD4 on here at 1440x900 and said it was nice and smooth. Good to hear it plays well at a higher resolution as also. I might have to try hooking it to my TV to test it out... :D
