Is there some way to get a RSS feed notification when these go back up on Tiger again? I could just do a search for 7811 every so often on the website, but was wondering if there's a smarter way to stay notified...

Set an email alert on slickdeals or fatwallet. Either site should be well up to date on these deals. I actually saw this both times when they first came out. But I dont need it so no point buying it.

I could have sworn you mentioned getting one for your daughter as well in another thread.

Toss the other one on eBay if you don't need it; it'll likely go for $1000 easily.

That was the ONE I ordered for my daughter, but apparently I had "2" selected in my quantity box so that's what I got. :D What a numbskull hey? I have them all running Rosetta at the moment and might just hang on to them for our BIweekly LANs. They sure were a bargain. Except the one I paid $1250.00 for. lol :D

I still have the original departure from the depot. On the other side, my 200GB HDD arrived, my $15 rebate for my 200GB HDD arrived and I returned my C90S so my new C90P should be on its way. At this rate, I'll have the new C90P and all the parts from my C90S sold before my P-7811 FX ever even arrives. Now I'm stuck using my HP Pavilion dv1049cl which I'm very happy I haven't sold yet (its can play LOTR Online ).

    Tullamore Dew, here :D

Not big on RTS, but never really mind it. How about something like Babylon 5:I've Found Her? Get some raider hunting in. Might of come out with the Raider expansion by now, love to give a Delta-V a try.

I guess I am a lucky one, when the deal came back up I bought a few of the 7811 FX's and they were sold out 5 minutes later after I was told they had "50" in stock, I only bought 5, so unless those 50 went that quick or they were bsing. This was thursday last week, haven't seen the sale since.

Ok not sure if I should keep mine... Everything on it is perfect, but when i run furmark on stress test at native resolution and 8xmsaa my GPU temp as reported by furmark has climbed to as high as 104 C. The machine has never locked up on me (yet) but I haven't done the multi-hour gaming test yet. Just for additional info ambient temp was 72F. And it reached 100+ after about 20-30 min. The back of the laptop remained flat on a wooden desk. When i put something under the back it peaked at 86.

What should i do? These temps seem to be way up there! Does Furmark possibly have an issue showing correct gpu temperature?

Crap - my refurb came in yesterday - it's a 2888 model. Just a couple of very faint scratches on the outside cover if you look really hard in the right light otherwise like brand new. The bad news is the display is terrible :( Has lots of the white cloudiness with them visible this time when looking directly at the screen. Also I can not do the wipe trick to completely get rid of them and also you can see alternating vertical light/dark strips in the cloud areas.

That and this one also has the TZS0 overheat bug as soon as I start to overclock the GPU, so it's going back for a refund :( :( :(

I may give up on these (even at this great price) and try the new 7805u....

No way computer is running that high, most it should be is around 45-50c for a safe computer, anything higher I believe is risking damage, one thing I did was a simple fix, I propped the back of my laptop up (I dont have a cooler yet) I used a pair of pencils to allow laptop to throw heat, lowered my core about 5c, nothing special i'm around 45c now. I would try getting a temperature gadget or program im sure there are many free on the internet, I use windows sidebar which gives me a temperature gauge.

Everybody should undervolt their 7811s. This is the best way to keep the computer under control.

I will take the temp using another program while running furmark to confirm what it said. I pray that it isn't anywhere near that high, but i was able to repeat it many times (the test) and all came back with similar numbers. Will post results when i get back home this afternoon

So, I just unpacked my refurb 7811.

Visually there is no issues whatsoever, mint condition.

Windows booted up just fine, but there is ethernet, video, card reader, wireless drivers missing, which already makes me feel uneasy. I will get home and install those as well as do some testing to see if any heat issues are apparent.

As for the screen, I love the quality, but... Yes, there is a little bit of "fog" going vertically on the right side of the screen. I will try the "wiping" technique to see if I can get the air out. There is also a minimal bleed on the left bottom edge, not sure if this can be fixed. I heard that with burn-in these could go away by themselves, but I don't want to take the chance. There are no stuck or dead pixels that I could see in the brief time I had it on in the office.

One thing I did notice, though, is that the fan was constantly changing speed, like an engine hunting for revs, if you know what I am talking about. Again, more testing is needed, but I am slightly worried.

i've been reading that the spastic fan is normal in the 7811s. I'm guessing the temps sometimes hover around a borderline level and it keeps jumping back and forth between 2 settings.

hopefully you'll unpack your 7805u, i want to hear your thoughts in comparison =) I'd like to just open mine and be done with it (rather than wait for the 7811 deal).

An update from me (typed on my 7811).

I figured out the white fog thing. To remove (or change it) I just basically pressed on the LCD lightly from both sides and it disappeared. Than I tried wiping and it came back, so I am totally lost, it seems that there is some inconsistency in the back layer of the LCD, which is causing these slight light artifacts. So this issue seems to be resolved for now and at least now I know what to do to fix it. You might wanna give it a try.

I have noticed one thing that is annoying, though. There is a major light bleed on the right botton edge of the LCD on the pressing does not fix that. It is regular bleed, not a mist. I am contemplating returning the laptop, but I will use it for a couple more days to test and see if it is really that bad. Again, if I am planning on selling it, I might just try to sell it as is.

For now I have just updated all the drivers and downloaded all the Windows Update crap. I also installed the Physx and NVidia system tools.

I am yet to figure out the media buttons, I saw the thread on here somewhere with instructions on how to point them to the right apps, but have not tried it yet.

I will update when I run 3dMark and PCmark test.

That's when I was talking to Compusa (they and Tigerdirect are merged) about them - the site's ordering had messed up and I missed getting one ordered, so I called them up. The CompUSA rep tried to get me one, but they'd only gotten in 380, and they were 200 backordered in the hole to start with. The reason was so many people were ordering them that their system couldn't post the "sold out" notice fast enough.

I have the links on my desktop, auto-notify's on the deal sites, and am checking them every day lol.

    A brief update.

I downloaded and installed 3dMark06, Vantage and PCMark05 and Vantage. The Vantage versions do not run on my current setup ?!?!
3dMark06 quits before CPU test and goes back to desktop.
PCMark05 does not want to start.
    !!!

Is there any trick to get these running on 7811 ???

Got mine yesterday, it’s a 2887 everything so far works great. Ran Orthos and Prime95 overnight at the same time and CPU never went above 49, ran vantage future marks a few times gpu never went above 59, Using Speedfan to monitor temps. Noticed plastic rap material on the hinges so maybe the screen was replaced, keyboard and battery look new, also came with install disk. Things are taking some getting use to I have been avoiding vista up till now, so I am still getting use to OS.

Right now running Prime95 (64bit) and Vantage, not problems so far. And no joke, COD4 at 1900x1200, 60FPS online multi-player. THANK YOU! LOL funny slow loads while loading maps with Prime95 running.

2887 isn't an older bios its an actual older version of the notebook, the 2888 where the last revisions before the 7801u and 7805u. No real big to me, I don't have any of the ghosting or freezing issues that some folks reported and since I come from a C90s, this thing is quiet...LMAO!

NO FOR MY MAJOR COMPLAINT, my bag that I had with my old Toshiba 17" does not fit this notebook...NOOOOOOO! There goes another $20, its the nickles and dimes that get you. NBR, random notebook bag drawing please and make sure I win. Would love one of those Targus backpacks, I'm seriously broke. I still owe my Mom a Blu-ray player and Asus is closed till the 17th, so I won't be getting the replacement C90p till around then to sell.

Mine is 2888, what is the difference ???

Anyway, the ghosting came back when I turned the laptop on today. I pressed like I did before and again it went away.

I finally got the 3dMark06 running and got 8349 stock. No mods, no OC on 181.00 drivers from laptopvideo2go. The temps stayed uder control and topped out at around 65C.

I am still debating wether I should return it or try to sell it.

ebay it, start the bid at what you paid and make some money.

I do have to say the scream may not be as bright as my C90s which was on par with my ViewSonic, but its still very nice. As for difference between 2887 and 2888, not a whole hell of a lot. I do however think I need to flash it before I can do raid.

I received mine (p2888) two days ago, out of the box it looked and felt great, no marks or anything, even had the plastic on the hinges. After turning it on and setting up my account it wasn't but 10 min till my screen just became all distorted. Excaclty what happened to Choder

I went ahead and tried Choder's solution but no luck. My brother had told me that there was another pin connection in the display but was afraid further tampering with the laptop will result in voiding the warranty.

Later i came across the post about the P-7805u and decided to return the 7811 and get the 7805u.

So far its been a blast, already playing Warhammer Online smooth at 1900 x 1200 reso and full graphics, no problems.

Cool, well seems this time around the 2888 are complaining and the 2887 are fine, LOL. I was here when everyone was complaining about the 2887 and thought it was the funniest thing. I did hear from a friend online that his got so hot that it shattered the Video Card (mobo warped and snapped the video card in half), so be aware of that when OCing. Use on either a good surface (glass like I do at work) or with a cooler (at home I play on a soft card table so I use a cooler to keep it up and free).

Mine is working flawlessly, just burning recovery/driver discs and about to install raid 0. I'll need to play around with the brightness settings in the NV control panel because I'm already maxed out in the Windows setting. Otherwise incredible system.

I set LOTRO to 1680x1050 just so it matched my PC (so I don't have to keep screwing with my custom UI), otherwise it played acceptable on DX10 at 1920x1200.
