i bought a 6831 for 669 on ebay just a few weeks ago and the thing is in perfect condition, no scratches on the lid, nonething. comes with all the manuals, disks and boxes. the only thing i have done with it is put in a T8300 cpu and dual 500gb drives. i dont think i can build a desktop PC at this price that includes a monitor and be small enough to transport it when i have too for less then $800.

i was thinking of buying one of those 7811 on ebay for around $1000 but the 6831 has a better price per performance. i am going to keep this for 2 min years min.

Sounds like you found a great deal on a nice lappy. Congrats and welcome to the Gateway family. I too am pleased with my 7811s and think these Gateways are a steal right now in the price/performance area.

Should I get the 3 year warranty from Tigerdirect? How much did you all pay for your warranty if you purchased one? Those who didnt, What do you think is a fair price for 3 years of protection?

    Thanks,
    S

go to squaretrade.com and check out their warranty prices. They are extremely competitive.

yep just picked up another...hopefully it will be stuck pixel-free and I can just ship back my current one that has an RMA open on it. Since they claim to have them in stock I'm guessing it will ship sooner than my RMA replacement machine...we shall see.

It seems they are having 2 or 3 at a time. I wonder if they are just the "returned" ones from other NBR members of the recent past? That would be funny. Of course not for the bloke who gets stuck with a bad one. Not funny "ha ha", but funny "interesting".

I read TD policy the last few days. It states that they have the right to "repair" your unit and return it back to you if you ask for an exchange. So I guess they must be reselling the units that people returned to them before the 30 days is up...

I want one more of the 7811, but it seems I always miss out... sleeping away :p

So, this time they should last about 1 hr on the website? These things go like hot cakes when they have 'em!
