I have a problem now. The clocks are locked at 400, 800, 300.

Actually I was messing around with Rivatuner and I'm pretty sure it was its fault, but I did a system restore and now everything is fine. I will probably try installing the driver again when I have some more patience.

Does anyone have problems with OpenGL programs like Furmark in *197.16?

Edit: Updated to 197.44 and now OpenGL works again.

i installed the latest nvida drivers from nvidia's site and everything works great.

question: i don't like the native resolution 1920x1200 cuz it's too small... if i run on something smaller, say 1680 x 1050, will it cause my gpu/system to run in decreased or non-optimal performance?

i used the nvidia control panel to add a custom resolution of:

    1680x1050
    62 Hz
    32-bit
    progressive scan

do you think this will hurt anything or cause my gpu to run at higher than normal speeds? thanks in advance for any replies1

well 1680x1050 is a non-optimal resolution when the native resolution is 1920x1200, due to the effects of scaling. but no there should be virtually no frame rate decrease. you can always make font and icons and maybe windows' graphics and stuff bigger and keep 1920x1200.

I'm running these right now. Not sure if it's just me but on my FX with 9800M GTS a driver is a driver is a driver. I don't see much performance difference between any of the nVidia drivers, the docx drivers, whatever. They all give me 6.8/6.8 in Windows Experience and all give me between 10120-10140 on 3DMark06. Frame rates seem identical in my games when checking with Fraps. I run my card at 700/1800/950 and it works fine in any driver.

As a person who enjoys tuning my system for maximum performance it's mildly frustrating to have every driver give identical results on my computer. But 257.15 runs as well as any other driver I've used so it's on my computer at the moment.

The newer drivers might all be the same under most conditions but I know for a fact that the 185.w/e driver that came with my P-7805u was noticeably worse than 195.w/e in just about everything. New drivers might just improve performance under certain conditions.

Has anyone noticed they can't adjust clocks with Nvidia performance? There is no option to that I can find.

I am updating this post b/c there is a newer one (version 258.69 June 29, 2010); I haven't installed that one..

I have a Gateway FX laptop with GForce 8800M GTS. I have installed the latest nvidia driver (258.96 - 2010-07-19) but it makes my Starcraft 2 crash a lot. I am downloading the old 191.00 to see if it works. Any suggestions?

Crashing in EQ2 using 195.62 with my p172fx (vista 32) with no clocking at all ugh. Can't use the new 258 Nvidia one as they're for 64.

Gonna try the 197.16. Anyone else with a similar setup playing EQ2 with pointers on which driver, speeds etc?
    Thanks

Okay, that one didn't hold. I need to try a different one.
I'm able to uninstall the Phys monitor that was installed with it. But using the Add/Remove Program from CP doesn't do anything for removing the actual video driver. Suggestions? Safemode uninstall maybe?
    Thanks

    FYI,
260.99 working good on my P-171X FX, it should work on all of the P-68XXFX too. It works on my P-7805U FX, but I have not had any issues like my older models have had.

After many tries, I am using the last nvidia driver (260.99) on my Gateway 6860 (GeForce 8800M). When I installed the driver, it first cleaned out all the previous drivers. I don't know if this is why it worked out.

The driver 260.99 made my GPU overheat and now the laptop does not even power on. I took it for maintenance and they will need to repair the motherboard. They are charging me about $200. If you have a Gateway 6860FX, don't you ever use the newest drivers.

I can't believe it. Now that my laptop crashed they make a new driver for it. The last official driver for my machine was dated from 2008. Thanks flynnaz, I hope they can fix my P-6860 FX... I need to play worms, black ops and starcraft 2!! :-D

Hi there, would you still recommend the same driver for my P 7811 FX (running on Win 7 64, 9800M GTS), or rather the newer 266.58?
If not, which one would you recommend currently?
No major graphic tasks, apart from LOTRO and photo & video viewing.

    Many thanks,
    E*

Sorry for the really late reply, this is from another post of mine:
With the newest drivers, I have installed right over the old with no issues, but like above, if you have issues, it is best to uninstall, clean the old driver files off your system, reboot, and install the new drivers fresh.

I don't know the temps as I don't have the temp monitoring software installed. However, I did not notice any difference in fan noise (very quiet) or perceived heat on my palms. But it did allow the sleep function to work properly. I was having trouble resuming after sleep using the stock driver and win 7. This driver seemed to fix it. Not sure what the GPU driver has to do with the sleep function of this laptop but I am happy now.

What's the difference between doing this process with the uninstalling rather than just installing the updated driver without doing all that?

If you are not having any problems then leave well enough alone. Don't fix it if it isn't broken. Some GPU driver updates can cause problems as shown in this thread.
