I've tried the new driver 177.98 and Mass Effect was stuttering a bit so I'm gonna go back down to 177.79 as that's the best one for me so far.

Ok, now this is weird. I went back to 167.46 by accident (Let Windows Update do its thing unattended) and my screen is now much sharper and even a bit brighter and more vivid with the same Digital Vibrance setting as before(177.66). Of course, I lost a couple(3) FPS in the Crysis benchmark and my 3DMark06 went down a bit, but wow, this is worth the loss in FPS.

Well the display driver is the most important, don't cha know. Then boot to Safe Mode and check to be sure the "generic vga" driver is installed. Then boot to regular and don't let any driver install on it's own. Then install the driver you want.

Try running is from Safe Mode and as Administrator. If you have uninstalled Nvidia already Sweeper may not find anything. That is OK.

OK, I upgraded to the 177.41 drivers about a month ago and started getting BSOD Irq less than or not equal to errors.

When I follow the instructions at the top, as soon as I uninstall the nvidia driver, my screen blanks out and I have to reboot and recover the system from a system restore. Is there any way to make sure the screen doesnt blank out on me as soon as I uninstall the nvidia drivers? I do not reboot after uninstalling, it just goes black.

Thanks in advance for any help.

hey guys. I got my 7811 and downloaded nvidia physics but it says i don't have any geforce acceleration or smth like that. i guess i should install the new drivers but everything works great so far. anyway, i was wondering...as this seems to be a normal procedure for me. If i'd had the driver provided by the gateway site i didn't need any moddified inf right, cause it would be the right driver....i just download, start setup and it upgrades normally...if this is the case could someone upload the original driver update from the gateway site over here? i can't acces gateway.com from ROMANIA(whole country is like...banned...dunno why)....thnaks guys....

@CapraSebi - Just download the one in my signature and use that. It needs no mod inf.

The physx control panel might be reporting that because you don't have a physx processor. However, NVidia bought the technology some time ago and the 9800GTS in your laptop supports physx without requiring a special processor. IIRC, NVidia didn't start supporting physx in their drivers until about 177.83 (the driver I'm using). Therefore, I don't think the Gateway provided driver supports it. However, I'd recommend that you first go to NVidia's site and download some of the test applications and run them to double check. If they won't run, or don't accelerate the apps, then you'll probably need a newer driver. You can use an official NVidia driver, but you'll need to replace the inf file with a third party modded inf from someone like laptopvideo2go.com.

Anyone use install the 178.13 nvidia drivers yet? I did, switching from 177.66. The results were that my 3dMark score went down to 8928. Reinstalled the 177.66 driver and went up to 9312. I'm overclocking my GPU speed to 660 mhz obviously. What gives?

Synthetic benchmarks such as 3DMark are not ideal for pinpointing GPU performance. In fact, I am running an older driver that scores almost 800K lower in 3DM than my previous one, but gives me 8-10fps higher framerates in most games. I would'nt be too concerned unless your actual gameplay suffers.

Yeah try again and make sure you get download the one for the right operating system. I'm sure you know this, but as a reminder, make sure you get the nv_disp file and replace the one that comes with the driver download. Their website is usually pretty reliable, at least they have so far.
