Alright I know this Version is not out yet but I want to start the official thread relating to the actual laptop it self unlike the other thread that got cluttered with jobs and stuff!
So discussion BEGIN!
I will be picking one up on the 15th if it is within the price range (1600)

dondadah88 Notebook Nobel Laureate
can you show us the specs or what webiste you found this on while we wait
-
I hear it's gonna have a hard drive.
-
Well so far I have heard from the other cluttered thread
P8500(I think)
9800M GTS
200gb 7200rpm drive
1920x1200 17 inch screen
4gb DDR3 ram
all for around the same price -
-

Well if it comes with a hard drive then i'm all over this thing... I got to buy me 5 of them so I can have access to this hard drive you speak of.
Isnt it a bit early for an "offical lounge" to a notebook that isnt out yet. I admit its a nice system and i'm excited about getting it to, but we still have a while yet...and honestly gateway could delay release or the build quality this time around might be in the toliet (cause its still ALOT of tech for a pretty cheap price and the price cut has to come from some where) -
I also heard it has a "RAM" of Double Dang haRd-on 3 type.... >_>
-
P8400, that's a 2.23 Ghz 3mb montevina chip.
Price should be at 1450, which makes it $100 more expensive. -
I can't wait 'till it comes out!
-
How long till it goes on sale is what I want to know
-
-
But hey at least I had a min to hold my very own fx. -
-
Don't come home for a few weeks, she will be so relieved it was only a laptop and that you weren't really cheating on her with another woman that she will forget all about it.

Being married is fun huh
My wife would destroy my inner child for doing that. Wives are scary -
(stupid 10 character min limit...) -
-
This is my first post here - been lurking just over the past month or so, but I'll be picking this up on the 14th assuming that the specs and pricing are accurate. Looks like an awesome laptop for the price.
And on that note, if anyone wants to buy a P-173x FX ( Link) during that time, let me know. I'll let it go for ~$1200 (shipping included, and obviously no tax). It's brand new, barely used with all original software/manuals/packaging.
PM me if interested.
I'll edit this post if I'm not supposed to post that info in this section of the forum, but I thought it was semi-related. Just let me know, and I'll remove that 2nd paragraph above. -
That's a very nice price. You might want to consider putting it up in the BST forum.
-
I'm interested. -
-
I think there is a post limit til you can recive PMs, but then again I havent been that low on posts in over 2 years.
-
Is ddr3 a good thing or a bad thing? for battery life its probably worse.
For gaming? -
It's good, but theres not going to be a whole HUGE amount of difference until the latencies get brought down a bit.
-
As for DDR3, they havent really reached the limits of DDR2 so I am clueless as to why they have gone DDR3. Im assuming its inline with video card manufacturers selling "new generation" cards that are just die shrunk previous models. Capitalism does wondrous things to the consumer. -
DDR3 is more power efficient than DDR2 in general. That's why they made the switch. If manufacturers wanted to follow the DDR2 standard there wasn't a ton of room for power efficiency even though they could go faster.
-
This is really my first dive into the laptop world, I just couldn't afford the premiums over a custom built desktop in the past, but for a mid-range gamer they've really come a long way especially in the past couple years it seems.
But yeah, I'm always puzzled that people still consider weight and battery life as buying factors when purchasing a gaming laptop.
The thing that interests me about the 9x00m series though is the HybridPower feature which allows you to manually switch off the dedicated GPU and use the on-board GPU to save power while not using any graphic intensive applications. Seems like a pretty cool feature, but I still wouldn't have battery life as one of my main concerns when purchasing a gaming laptop. -
I'm afraid the 7811FX will not support Hybridpower.
-
Does the 9800m GTS have that Hybrid Graphics feature?
*drools*
Edit: Damn. -
edit: According to the nVidia site, it should... Link
Is it a motherboard thing? -
http://www.nvidia.com/object/hybridsli_notebook.html
Does this help? -
I didnt think this notebook would come with an SLI board! does that mean another gpu can be added?
-
As for your question, I would say no. Hybrid SLI allows a system to switch between integrated and discrete cards. Unfortunately, I don't think the P7811FX will be available with a hybridSLI ready motherboard. -
Gateway is always "slightly" behind on the newest tech. I guess that's what makes them so cheap! Whatever it is...it's worth saving $1k for an awesome laptop.
-
-
ah gotcha! I spend too much time with desktop hardware at home and server hardware at work!
I got lots of learning to do! -
Anyone know when the P-7811FX is supposed to be out?
-
How long till it goes on sale is what I want to know
-
aug 14th is the rumor at bestbuy
-
-
This notebook looks interesting. I wish there was more information on it.

Hello,
Regarding the 7811, I hate to douse the flames of anticipation, particularly as a 6 year Gateway power user, but Nvidia is facing hundreds of millions of dollars of liability potentially for a 9000 series mobile GPU set that overheats. Thats right, announced this week they are in deep caca. So before you anticipate anything coming in August you might look at offerings from Toshiba, the current bleeding edge leader who Monday yanked their top x9000 cpu and 9800 GTX series offering off their web site. You can no longer find the Qosmio x305-703? for $2199 that was smoking hot. (no pun intended). Dell changed their offerings too. 8800's still rule and particularly since 9800's etc were rumored to be warmed over versions - it now will be the champ til a recall and or big fix is found.
-
I am going for the 173XL FX. If anyone expects a new model there please let me know. Otherwise I am locked and loaded. 8800 GTS runs Crysis with a 2.4 GHZ and 4 GB of DDR2 like a champ - see tiger direct video on the subject.
Also DDR3 has had stability issues so the only thing left as an advantage for the new versions is 1066 FSB. I will stay with tried and true. -
You do that.
-
^ I just realized how creepy your name and avatar is...
-
-
As far as I know, the Nvidia chips affected are the 8XXX series, and in particular the 8400/8600 cores. The 8800M cores are in no way affected. Actually, the 9800M GTX isn't available yet. Toshiba hasn't released that model either, it's on pre-order for most. The only place is Best Buy which had it up for two days and then yanked. Staples has it but no updates on when it's available for sale if that hasn't changed yet. -
From the sound of his post i think hes just trying to convince maybe himself ? and others that the new ones wont be available so he can go buy the one thats currently available without feeling guilty for not waiting, hell now even my head hurts trying to figure it out oh well good luck pal what ever it is your trying to err ya /brainfart.
-
LOL. Yea, thats why I just let it go. It was making little sense.
