Would there be any significant performance difference between this laptop and a P-6860 FX w/ a T9300? Any significant battery life difference?

Hmm, to be honest, probably not very much. Better processor in 6860 countered by better GPU in the 7811FX. If you already have 6860FX with a T9300/T8300, there isn't very much point in upgrading unless you really want the larger screen. Battery life might be a 10-25 minute increase.

Thanks for the quick response. I'm sorely tempted to be honest, what with the screen, and the GPU and the move to DDR3... I bought the laptop when it was still on sale for 1099 so what I get for selling it would probably cover the cost of this new one. I guess I'll wait to see what the early adopters feel.

Dang - my bad guys - didn't mean to get the glands going ;)

I was sniffing around for the M-152XL/153XL 6850FX/6851 info, and I saw "P-7000 series" on the list.

Looks like a nice machine - I WISH something like that was capable in a 15.4", as 17" is just too big for me. I have nowhere to put something that large!

    I'd like:

    15.4" 1680x1050 or 1440x900
    p8400
    4GB DDR3
    200GB 7200RPM
    BluRay+DVD-RW
    Vid: who knows. 9800M GT/HD 3870/HD4850, 512MB DDR3 or DDR5

and I want it for $1199 or so

Don't need a webcam, fingerprint, copper-coloring - gimme SUBSTANCE, not fluff...

Heh - not asking for much, huh?
Depending on the thermal specs on the 3870/4850, there just doesn't seem to be a way to dissipate the heat from the GPU, in the chassis size I want...

a typical nooblet on a forum.

maybe you should back your "arguement" up by posting your source. even though there is not one to start with.

The 8 series had issues. the 9 series does not.

I think some little kid is just upset that his parents wont buy him a decent laptop.

Hey guys, just an FYI (I work at BB), wait until the week of the 17th to purchase it if possible or just watch the flyers if you can't wait that long because as with most of the FX line so far (both desktop and laptop) the system tends to go on sale the first full week it is on the shelves.

As for me I'll stick with my 6860 for another year then drop it down the stairs for a 7811 (if you take advantage of your accidental plan you will have to repurchase it on the replacement to get the continued coverage)

I find it quite interesting that you'll have to repurchase the accidental plan in order to use it on your replacement. Is there anything else I should know? :D :D

At first I agreed that it was pretty well ludicrous to have to repurchase the Service Plan but after looking at it you are basically getting a $1200+ system for $349.99 (or $699.98 if you consider PSP on original and replacement), so if you look at it that way it isn't a bad deal.

    Total cost for laptop + replacement = 1,300 X 2 = 2,600++

    Total cost for 1 laptop + 2 PSP = 1,300 + (699.98) = 1,900.

You do save somewhat I guess, but not very efficient.

It says right on the plan, that it's only valid for 1 replacement. I think servicing is handled different, but replacements, it's only valid for once.

TO be honest, I've never had issues with BB's plans - I usually buy them on high-ticket items, like on my LCD and plasma TV's.

I had an old-school 62" rear projection TV I bought from them in 1998, and I got the plan. I had that TV from 1998 until about 2005. Bought the 4Y, and extended like 2-3 times. They repaired the TV about 5 times over the years here at the house, once was even working on the lamps, which is REALLY expensive, and I never paid a penny.

I've been posting there for 2+ years now, so I'm not going to just leave there and start posting here. Besides, I'm no tech master like some of you folk. I know that's no excuse, but Honestly I wouldn't be all that helpful.

LOL. It's kinda funny you mention that, as that's the whole reason I chose to use that name. To see if a persons SN and/or avatar makes people more judgmental of them, even if they appear to be mature and/or helpful. I tend to be very analytical. :)

Alright, so we got this laptop at $1450 for now. I'm in Canada and as soon as they release I'm thinkin of drivin to US and pickin one up. I was thinkin about 6831/60 but might as well go for this.
Anyway, if I wouldn't want extra warranty what would b my total price ? I can either go to Michigan or New York, closest states to me, just don't know what taxes are at which state.

i read ddr3 is only 2% faster than ddr2(toms hardware)
    new LCD is great
harddrive is another plus(hope theres room for another one)
CPU(less heat less power = good)

those upgrades are good but really dont know about 9800m gts
most 9 series card has been shrinked chip from 8 series.

overall i think its going to get +1000 3dmark06 point than 6860(due to cpu)

I now understand how blogs break news.
Search "Best Buy P-7811FX". You'll see that Engadget broke the news citing Notebookreview.com as its source. However, you'll see that the price is advertised as 1499.99 rather than 1449.99. Because of Engadget's error, every blog from there mixed copy pasta and now reports that Best Buy will sell it for 1499.99 citing Engadget as its source... -.- Why don't the authors realize that becoming a tertiary source is a bad thing?

Anyways, I'm still waiting for confirmation that Bluetooth will be built in.
