are you...licking me?.i am lost for words, this rarely happens.
-
Are you now RAID positive? -
-
I can't get the dam BIOS to work..burned from ISO, tried USB but flash drive isnt bootable.. Any ideas?
-
Burned with IMGBURN on a cd not a dvd worked perfect
.
-
Guys be careful, we've got 64bit vista and that bios update is for 32bit
-
Of course, if it's not specifically for this make and model, then it might sort-oif make sense...
Anyway, I'm not going to install it until I get myself some more CD-Rs, so it's just as well. -
-
How much back light bleed you getting on the bottom of your screen? Definitely noticeable if on a black or dark screen or watching DVD.
-
I have quite a bit of light bleed compared to my E1705. Doesn't really bother me too much since I don't watch DVDs and my screen isn't dark most of the time. I'm hesitant on returning it for that cuz I might get another one with dead pixels or worse, freezing/crashing.
-
Sometimes that light bleed will fade over time i know it happend on 2 of my past laptops.
-
Anyone undervolting? So far looks like we just drop to 9v and run it. Looking for other thoughts.
-
Okay, anyone know what settings I have to change so it doesn't start sleeping automatically after I let it idle for awhile? Again I have an alarm system on it and I woke up an hour later than I intended this morning than I'd intended.
It hadn't done this until today and my screen saver and power options seem to not have anything in them that would account for this happening. -
power options->plan settings-> chage timers
power options->plan settings->advanced->change whut u need -
DJGamer,
How is the new rig working out? I bought mine on the 29th and it started freezing only yesterday even though I have been beating on it pretty heavily.
So that is nearly a week of solid play and then boom... freezing. Wondering if it's worth it to return it for a new one or just a refund. -
According to my power settings when on battery it "goes to sleep" after fifteen minutes...that's what it's been doing, but it's been on AC...so I'm guessing it may be some sort of glitch or something where the power saving thing thinks it's running off battery when the dang thing isn't even in the computer yet. I changed the setting for that and I'll have to see if it makes any difference. -
Just read this thread all the way through, and I'm planning on getting one tomorrow morning after I get paid.
But the whole gaming for a week then it starts freezing up. Hope that doesn't happen to me. If you go past the time you can swap them out, won't Gateway get you a replacement??? -
Do prop up your laptop on the back end if possible....
Some people seem to think it should operate fine laying flat on a table, ect...
But I can attest, I had to do the same thing with my previous XPS Gen2, XPS M1710 and Alienware 7700. Regardless of what it should do.....the reality is that during heavy gaming....the lappy needs to breath.... -
Hmm. I'll pry be keeping the regular install for a little while. Only other thing I'm worried about is the screen problems I have read about. Ya I'll definately have it propped it, these things can get hot it seems!
But I'm still looking forward to owning my first gateway... along with my first vista powered pc. -
See pg. 100 for one resolution to lock-ups..the other is to entirely disable hibernate. I've done both, and haven't had any other issues.
http://wiki.answers.com/Q/How_can_I_disable_hibernate_in_vista
I suggest going through the cmd prompt, seems to be most efficient, and easiest to reverse. -
Well I thought that I would throw my two cents into this discussion as I have had my 7811FX for a week now and am having some lockup issues. I am leaning toward this being a driver issue in my specific case (hopefully).
So far I have been able to run WOW for over two hours straight at max settings with no lockups or problems. I can also play Crysis on 1920*1200 with almost all high settings and not experience any lockups. I have played through the entire demo twice about an hour per play through with no lockups.
On the other hand I picked up Mass Effect as my free game after arguing with BB over and it locks up anywhere from 5-10 mins into game play. I have read that this game has some issues with lockups so this could be attributed to the game and not the computer. But I also downloaded AGE of Empires III demo and that also locks up after 5-10 mins of gameplay.
The fact that Crysis is such an intensive game and I can seemingly play WOW with no problems leads me to hope that this is a driver issue and not something to do with the actual hardware. All my drivers are stock and I have removed most of the crap software along with Norton in an attempt to get around this problem. Does anyone have any suggestions? Also has anyone looked at the sound drivers? As whenever my computer locks up the sounds always loops without a BSOD or anything just a frozen screen with a repeat/loop. -

Then you can delete the huge hibernate file on C: with "Disk Cleanup" be sure to check the hibernate box. -
The issue I had with the computer "going to sleep" has been resolved, although as I said in a way that's a little worrisome.
Basically, the power settings are set up so that, running off the battery it will go to sleep after fifteen minutes. The AC power settings have sleep set to "never".
So now that I've changed the "on battery" setting to "Never", the issue has stopped. Now you may guess it's because perhaps my AC power cable was not properly connected, well that shouldn't be the case because I haven't even taken the battery out of its bubble wrap yet, let alone plugged it in, so if that were the case then it would be very obvious because my laptop would have no power at all.
Another possibility is that because the AC is the only power input right now my system has somehow become confused-which I'm not sure how is possible unless it's some kind of random glitch (and I've tended toward not believing in random glitches lately).
On a separate note I've noticed the fan kicking on and off a lot more than my last model, there may be a couple possible reasons for this:
1-My old unit either had better or worse fan management. Better if it shouldn't be kicking on and off seemingly at random, worse if it didn't in which case it might provide further explanation to the issues I was having.
2-The fan I had in my room was set up on the second highest setting, lately since the weather's been transitioning into Fall I've had it on the lowest setting, so perhaps I either couldn't hear it before or maybe in fact it either provided enough cool air circulating through the room to actually make the fan kicking on/off unnecessary or to just block it out somehow.
Anyway, yeah it's slightly annoying at times.
Any updates on the BIOS thing and whether or not there's a 64-bit version out there? -
-
Kiddin..anyhow The post on pg 100 has stopped wmi erros in my log.. and my comp doesnt keep trying to sleep/hibernate after idling plugged in.
-
-
But I gave a link. Links to tweakers always trump command line syntax.
PS: Any fix is good no matter who, how or when.
Thanks to:
E-wrecked for finding a fix.
diablo85 for showing how. -
A view to a kill...amirite? -
-
too much space that i cant install a 2 meg file anywhere in my 525gb of free space.
-
does that recovery dvd includes drivers? thx!

I followed step number 3 in E-wrecked's post but had no luck as Age of Empires 3 locked up in the first 5 minutes. The last error that the event log logged states
"Unable to initialize the security package Kerberos for server side authentication. The data field contains the error number."
I'm not sure if that error pertains to the computer crashing but the timing is about right for when the computer locked up last and is the first thing in the event viewer.
So far I am only finding this problem mildly annoying as it only happens in a couple games so far and I assume there is a fix out there somewhere. But this coming Sunday I plan to join the Warhammer beta and if that game locks up I will be very displeased as I have been waiting to try the game out for some time.
Any one have any other suggestions or should I attempt one of the other steps in E-wrecked's post? Or maybe I followed the steps in the post incorrectly? -
Awesome!
I love obscure referrences to cool stuff like James Bond -
The kerberos error.. I've been looking into that myself. Im not sure as to the resolution just yet..cause Ive just begun investigating this myself. Im not real concerned with it, cause it's a HTTP error. I know it has something to do with network awareness. Have you dumped your hibernate? Diablo gave a quick syntax, syn gave a link, which I think was a copy of my original linkAnyhow.. dump the hibernate, and if you go back into comp mgmt -> system tools -> reliability and performance -> reliability monitor. It should show you any hardware, software, etc errors. Do you see any that correspond with the crash?
-
kerberos should not be an issue really. its used for domain authentication which, in this laptop's form is not supposed to be able to do.

Well, I was planning on getting the cooling unit, but like an idiot I went and got the 5.1 external thing first and now I think the NZXT would set me too far back, as would the other recommended one, although by a bit less it's really not less enough-and if I go with a cooling unit, I should probably go all out anyway, so I might save up some of this pay check and add it to my next one.
I figured I'd get $130-$140 this week, but apparently either it didn't cover all of last week's hours or I underestimated how much taxes would effect how much of it I would actually see...
Anyway I'm kinda hating to put off getting it, though... -
So what exactly does Hibernation do to your PC's performance?
-
hibernation itself does nothing to performance. when you "shut down" aka hibernate the PC it dumps the RAM to the disk. then when you start back up it puts the memory back in place from the hard drive...making your session appear as if it never changed.
-
bsod, constant blue screen restarts, windows unexpected shutdown,
any solutions for this yet?
blue screen every 30 mins, just too much. -
Forgive my not-knowing-****-about-Vista..
