over 5....but it doesnt matter, cause WEI sucks3dmark is a *better* indicator but not really great.

I have a WEI of 6.3 with my 6860 and upgrades had nothing to do with it (you can just hack it into the score you want).
But as other have said a better benchmark program will tall you more of your machines capability than WEI will. I'm hoping to break the 11000 mark in 3dmark06, johnksss was able to do it, so that would be a trip to even get there.
of course just having a machine that breaks into the 5 digit mark is pretty good on a laptop that we paid less than 2K for -
What is this about a sale going on at BestBuy?
I bought mine on Tuesday for $1,400. They have me $50 off because of the manufacturer suggested retail price (MSRP) on the Gateway website.
If I take my receipt back to BestBuy tomorrow (Sunday) I can get some money back or what? Also, what is this about a free PC game?
Thanks! -
money back yes
pc game.... probably nope -

I recommend the x9100..no OC and you max out the laptop
john, I dropped a t7500(merom) into the Montevina Chipset and it ran perfect. I was a test dummy for that too a while back. Not to say that it will work with all, but it should. The Montevina is bwards compatible from 1066MHz, to 800 and 667MHz. Or so the intel spreadsheet says. And so did my x305, when I yanked the T7500 from the HP

ok, since no one is answering this question in other threads, maybe someone using another type of fx can... can the hdmi output of the p-7811fx or p-6860fx produce dts sound?
-
it will not produce dts sound but you should be able to connect it to an amplifier that will break it into dts/dolby-d...
-
an amplifier? how? i mean im planning to connect it to my 32" samsung (oldest lcd series) via hdmi which in turn is connected to my home theater capable of dolby, is it supposed to produce this kind of quality sound?
-
what connects your lcd screen and your speakers ?
-

I would like to know how this amplifier trick works as well.
Our internal sound card isnt capable of creating anything over 2 speaker stereo as far as i know. To get actual (well its still faked, but its close) dolby sound out of the laptops you would have to get a soundcard (express port or totally external)
About the only laptop that i know capably of producing 5.1 sound is the Acer 8920 with its 6 bloody speakers of doom. And even then i'm not sure if its "actual" 5.1 sound or just 2 speaker stereo converted to pump out of 6 speakers according to sound frequency -
you guys misunderstand the idea behind those sound formats, in order to break a digital sound to 2.0 5.1 dts etc, you need a capable hardware to do that, our sound card can break it to 2.0 only. now if you feed the digital stream through hdmi or that toss link to a 5.1/ dts /7.1 / 14.6 etc to a capable hardware you will get the full sound. all you need from the laptop is the direct digital link, the rest will be done by the external hardware (the amplifier i mentioned) if you want to connect speakers directly to the laptop then 2.0 is all you gonna get.
that is as far as i know. -
@royk so bottom line is if i connect the p-7811fx hdmi, the sound will also be hdmi format as long as the device that it's connected to support that type of sound format?
thanks a lot royk for your answer! +rep to you! -
hmmm.... hdmi is not a sound format like dts, its a connector format.
so as long as you get a direct digital link through any connector that can pass it to a capable hardware... you will get the full sound that the media (cd/dvd/bluray) supply. -

2. Ok you explain things alot better than i do. I was trying to basically say that ( you have to rely on external hardware to do the job) i just didnt know exactly how i guess. Though i didnt know there was an amplifier that would accept HDMI input and still output the video. Thats pretty neat -
look at this page as to sound formats, not sure why the dont list the 14.6 ddthx+9i
anyway there is this picture at the end, showing how to wire using hdmi

oh my god... its 11.2 sound with THX2 support.
When Bill Gates dies and names me as his only heir in the will i will so have one of those set ups. Until then i'll deal with the normal people 5.1 that i have. -

Hello! I just bought a Gateway P 6831-FX of ebay
I am just wondering if its powercharger will work here in europe (norway).
I just need a new powercord ?
Thanks Alot for answering! -
-
it works.
aaaaaaaaaaaaaa -
on the P-7811 FX, what does everyone think of the 1920x1200 resolution on a 17 inch screen? Is the text hard to read? I need a high resolution for the screen space, but I've heard that 1920x1200 is too high for a 17 inch.
Also, is it worth getting this laptop if I am not a PC gamer and only work and multi-task? -
the native is 1920.1200.. just change it to 1680x1050 if it suits your tastes better. The resolution is still clear and crisp. Any less than 1680 will look like crap anyhow. And yea, it is a good rig.. I have an extra if u are interested.
Anyhow, welcome to the forum. PM me with any questions.

Does the the 173x support raid as is? I know the 7811's needed to have the BIOS upgraded to enable RAID.

Have you tried uninstalling the drivers and installing the newest ones?
Thats seemed to fix most of the HDMI problems that have popped up -
I am praying to god someone has a real answer to this issue. I have the p-6860FX and it has been doing the same exact thing as other P series laptops in other threads(shutting down unexpectedly/rebooting without any type of warning) and it is really getting to me. I have contacted Gateway on this matter repeatedly and they set me up for a repairs each time. Well now it's months later, I'm still having the same problem, and (yeah this is sad) now I am sending it in for the (ready for this one) 4th time. I have argued with them for literally hours on the phone, and they won't replace it. The real sad part is that it was brand new (16 days no return policy to "BEST BUY" lol). I am at witts end, and have no hair left to pull out over this matter. If there are other people with this same laptop and having the same issue please let me know. PLEASE HELP

Random shutdown/reboot is a tough customer. In desktop units I found it often to be PSU related even though the PSU on those units appeared to be functioning properly. I have a laptop which experienced random shutdowns while running AMD Optimizer and RMClock together. I only mention it to indicate it can be software that does it. I suppose it can be hardware related ie. a weak solder heating up and expanding, but I have never run into it.
Good luck, I would try power brick. You can pick up a Targus at Amazon sometimes for around $30 + -
I have p 6831 fx and my card reader stoped working ;/ Did anybody else had problem like this ?? (mabe i turned it off but i don't know how ;/ )

right click multi card disable it then enable it again -
reinstaling software didn't help ;/ -
if its not listed it means it is not being recognised, hence reinstall software wont help.
how about trying a system restore to a point in time before it happened. -
