Was I supposed to back up my drivers? Because I had to go into Device Manger and manually update everything from my Windows.old folder, and now some ATA controller driver it found but with does not exist in the 7811FX is causing problems.

The best idea is to create a drivers back up disk using the Gateway Recovery Center when you first get your notebook.

Your title and post are conflicting, "what DO I need to do before" and "WAS I supposed" did you already reinstall?
