I got mine at newegg when they had a sale 42.99, It was still expensive but now that I have I will say it is well worth it. I am not a gamer but knowing the laptop is cool at all times and it will extend whatever system life I will get is my true goal. My cooler is at least 6 months old if not more and served me well with the XT5000T I had too durring low usage times.

I run the USB port on the left to a powered 2.0 Hub then from the hub to the cooler, my stay at home optical mouse and joystick.

Not to get off topic here, but has anyone tried the ThermaPak Heatshift or other cooling pads? They have 17" ones http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834988005 for the P-7801u and the like...

Also I saw a couple of posts about refrigerating the cooling pad. Do you suppose there's any risk of creating condensation or moisture from doing this?

Also, how long do these pads take to resolidify? Would it make sense to get two and cycle them? :p

The majority consensus from most laptop gamers that I've talked to is that thermal pads are not worth the hassle. Unless you absolutely cannot use a cooler, most of the time the thermal pads really don't provide that significant of a temperature change. If the whirldwind monstrosity that is the CRYO NZXT can't make a dent in the FX temperatures how do you expect a thermal pad to?

TANWare - are you using the Zalman backwards or are you using it the correct way when you get those temp drops? I'm willing to get it if it works the right way. No way I'm getting it if I have to turn it around backwards like some suggest.

i have something to go along with this as well because im concerned about the zalman.

i just got it on friday and was currently running it on my inspiron 1505, and my laptop run at 77C at IDLE with the fans turned to max. but with it turned off it runs at 39C thats a huge difference. i am using HWmonitor to get my temps.

i have a feeling that alot of people are either bandwagoning this zalman nc2000, or they did something different to theirs.

right now i went back to my lapcool 4 with the fans pulling air away from the laptop and im getting an average of 56C at idle so far it seems to stay colder with just is normal cooling.

i would like some screen caps with proof that the nc2000 is capable of keeping the gateway cold and have the same results as some of these other zalman owners are "claiming" to get. otherwise im returning the zalman for the cyro for testing.

because as far as im concerned the zalman is a POS as far as keeping my laptop cold. considering that my 4 yr lapcool 4 far out preforms the zalman nc2000.

no offense to anyone but if im gonna spend my money on something it better work the way i expect it!

could not agree w you more.

i spend hours searching for review on that coolpad + cryo lx + nc2000.
one thing for sure: that about 30$ coolpad is no way can be compared to the others 2.

however,it is still a bit confusing between the Zalman and NZXT. maybe somebody should create a vote

did anybody stop by newegg and notice that the NZXT got a real BAD reviews there? i prefer zalman nc2000, though the 7811 owners may have to turn cooler around when using -_- I am waiting for the price to drop/sale -_- too expensive -_-

Zalman NC-2000 is the way to go for 7805u. Best results if positioned correct or if modded.

    I have a gateway p7811fx

I tried the Cryo LX - it was horrible. raised my temps not lowered.
Even after I bought a pwr adapter to fans more juice.

I bought a Zalman NC2000 and like it much better. Temps never go above 70, no matter which way I put it on the cooler. I do not flip mine around. Sometimes after I've been gaming for awhile I do slide my laptop down towards me some (push cooler back some from edge of desk, and slide laptop down a bit so the front part is resting on desk actually), so the vents place up better. But the difference in temp is moot. I just do it to feel like it's getting more airflow.

Well, I returned the cryo and got the zalman nc2000 from amazon...and I have to say... that it sux. the build quality is inferior and I can barely feel any air blowing up through the vents. The temp is worse than using the cryo. I will be returning the NC2000 and will build my own cooler.

Well, I just got my cooler master pro infinite.

it's great. the aluminum keeps the bottom of my laptop cold, and the fans are great.

what program do i use to see my temps.? I wanna test the difference out in l4d.

    Use hwmonitor to check temps.
Do you mean Coolermaster notepal infinite?? Or Coolermaster notepal color infinite??
these are the 2 I found on the Coolermaster website.

Both are listed as "New". and they look good!!! Specs say they are "especially for 17" laptops. These look a lot better than the zalman, and appear that no flipping is needed. :)
I could not find the pro infinite.
    Also,where did you buy it??

just a wee update, I took a can of compressed air, and blew out both my fan intakes/exhaust on my 7811 fx, after six months of abuse...blew a ton of heavy dust and fuzzies out.

used to be up to 70 / 72 deg c with my zalman nc2000 on vid card

just gamed for three hours straight, TF2/L4D, and didn't go above 60 deg c now - i am shocked

I just ordered my Cooler Master NotePal Infinite from
Newegg. $34.99 plus $7.92 UPS shipping. Looks like my 7805u will fit on this just fine.
The idea of having to turn the Zalman 2000nc around backwards does not appeal to me. Also the Zalman is open on the bottom and I think that would pose a problem when being used on my lap, in bed or on a rug. the air intake would be blocked. After all a laptop is a "laptop" and you should be able to use it as such :).
The side air intake and closed bottom on the CoolerMaster is a good idea.
And the temps listed by jujuk8 are to my liking.
The Infinite should be here in a week or so.
Thank you all for the input on this.

I saw 17 c temps this morning on both cores, now its warmed up quite a bit out here and they're sitting steady at 23 c.

    GPU at 47 c

The Zalman works great under your laptop. It doesn't matter if you block the bottom air vents using it on your lap. The feet on the bottom of the laptop sit on the zalman, so the laptop is lifted. It gets plenty of airflow. The p7805 gets way too hot and is basically unusable on a lap, the zalman nc2000 lets the p7805u become a laptop, instead of just a portable computer.

    My CoolerMaster infinite arrived yesterday.
Gpu temps playing Dead Space for 2 plus hours
    Without cooler > Gpu 89*c
    With cooler > Gpu 72*c
Wife uses it to play Spore. Temp without cooler 63*c, have not tried it yet with cooler.
I don't know what the cpu or or hd temps were, i was more concerned with the gpu and the Infinite brought the gpu temp down nicely.
I can feel air flowing out from under the 7805u on all sides. the air is evenly distributed over the entire bottom of the laptop and all intake vents are able to take advantage of it.
Room temp is 80*f plus. Have woodstove heating the house right now, cheaper than heating oil but room temps can vary a lot.
Im using hwmonitor to record temps. I dont have any pics but you can view it on Newegg.
I think it is a nice and capable cooler, and its affordable at $34.99

So what's the current state of reccomended coolers then?
NC2000 or Cooler Master Notepal Infinite Pro?

I'm still seeing better reviews for the NC2000 but I just want to be sure with it being so expensive and all...

Great discussion. I'm also looking at NC2000 vs. Cooler Master Notepal Infinite for my P-7801u.

The Cooler Master looks like it's a better fit for this laptop, meaning you don't have to turn it around. But it sounds like it may have louder fans (unconfirmed).

The Cooler Master Notepal Infinite with fan on high is making no difference in the temperatures (hwmonitor) on my p-7805u while surfing the web except for 1 to 2 degrees centigrade for the GPU. All other temps are samesame. The block of wood previously propping up the back of my laptop was $40 cheaper.

Not a stress test by any means. Approximately equal time with and without cooler. With cooler means the laptop is on the cooler master with the fan on high. Without cooler means the laptop is off of the cooler master and back on my wood block.

The closest to a game I have is rail simulator and flight simulator, but nothing heavy. I did get the Saitek X-52 to "fly" with. I bought this laptop because I like a fast machine for everyday software. I don't like to wait too long for a machine to respond. And the price was cheap for the hardware it packs. Maybe I could download a trial version of an intensive game from somewhere. Any recommendations? And download from where?

Hmmm, interesting. It looks like the NZXT Cryo LX is still a viable option in comparison to the nc2000...too bad the NZXT is even more expensive though.

Evidently it doesn't sit on your lap. http://benchmarkreviews.com/index.p...ask=view&id=145&Itemid=1&limit=1&limitstart=3

Here's another review with some temps. http://www.phoronix.com/scan.php?page=article&item=nzxt_cryo_lx&num=4

And this one. There are five pages. Page 4 has the testing.

While were talking about cooling, I noticed temperature differences reported from Speedfan 4.37 and HWmonitor 1.13.0. Speedfan reports GPU and HD temps the same degrees as HWmonitor, but reports ACPi0 and ACPi1 7 and 6 degrees lower than HWmonitor does. Then Speedfan reports both Core1 and Core2 temps as 5 degrees higher that HWmonitor does. Which product do you trust? Both are reading the temp sensors inside the laptop.

I just got the nc2000. It's amazing. It lowered my hard drive temp by 10C, and that's even after I had another cooler. Then again, it had better be amazing, for how much it costs.

Again I have the NC2000 and it has served me well to date. If I had the time and inclination I would love to make one with the spec's below.

    1.) external 12v 4 amp supply
2.) 2 12v fans to run cool air to the DTR
3.) 1 30w thermoelectric unit to cool the air hitting the DTR
4.) variable temp control for the thermoelectric cooler
5.) 1 12v fan to draw air across the thermoelectric cooler to remove heat.

You could go with two thermoelectric coolers and say a 6-7 amp power supply. Now agreed this would probably limit use to the desktop, but for people using these as a DTR that is fine.............

Speedfan 4.37, Realtemp 3.0 and Coretemp 0.99.4 all show the same temperature for core 1 and core 2. CPUid shows the coretemps as lower. 3 against 1.

The coolmaster is packed up and ready to send back. While running rail simulator (I was a diesel engineer going from Barstow to San Berdoo with lots of high-res scenery flying by), the GPU got up to 69 degrees centigrade with the cooler compared to 53 degrees centigrade without the cooler. OK, the NZXT Cryo LX or the Zalman 2000? Neither, I'll wait for something better to come out. Or I'll make my own.

The dimensions look good. The P-7805u will fit with no overhang. The 3 fans are smaller than I would like to see. Larger fans to cover all the vent areas on the 7808u would be better. This one might work, though. The totem graphics are nice, but the laptop would cover them up. Comes with multiple USB ports.
